- In this Vid, the Three Stooges depart Perth for a three day Adventure ride to the SW of Western Australia, but this trip is unique in that it involves traveling with the 2WD Ural. The Ural proves to be a very capable and versatile off road machine and was able to cope with all the different types of terrain we encountered. It also proved that age is no barrier when it comes to Adv Riding…you just have to think outside the box.

Couldn’t watch for more than a couple minutes .I guess you get a lot of pre teen girls watching for the music. mistakenly thought most viewers would be boomers like me ,think Steppenwolf. If the next video contains bopper soundtrack,I will unsubscribe.
Hi jj, yes, you were mistaken. Would you like a refund? Why wait for the next video...unsubscribe now. Thanks for watching for a couple of minutes.
hahaha 😂
@@davebarns1 what am I supposed to do…beg him to stay 🤷♀️
I also couldn’t stand the music, but not that big of a deal. Content of the video is great (as usual). Mdp can’t accommodate everyone’s musical preferences on every video he releases, would be a fools errand to even try. Put some blues on the next one and you’d have the teeny boppers complaining 😅
@@slakk5093 sometimes, finding the ‘right’ music is the hardest part of vlogging. Without the music, all you hear is wind noise. They’ll be complaining about that next. 👍
The luxuries you could take on that machine adventure riding would be a game changer. Fridge, stove a better mattress options are endless 👍
Yeah, Chris is taking full advantage of the extra room. Now he sleeps on a stretcher instead of a mattress on the ground. Thanks for watching.
My bloody dog would never get out of the sidecar if I had one ! 😂🤣
I had a off in June 3 2017 and took 3.5 years to walk Bought a GS800 the night before Never ridden started twice, If I get the leg strength id love to ride again.
Good 👍 to see old fellas still giving it a crack at 79 , I went on a ride 2 months ago or so with a 79 year old , I’m 55 and hoping I can still be giving it a go at that age . I do have a lot of injuries mostly caused by 31 years Army , but a few bike ones as well 😂😂😂
Great episode! My 93 year old dad has just had a chair fitted to his BMW 650 (1982) - he’s still mastering it, but it’s allowed him to continue doing what he loves!
I thought Chris did well enough on the 310 when he went out on a previous ride. Look, I take my hat off to any man who gets back onto a bike after an off like that. I remember seeing that video. Especially since the ride going back in a MICA unit isn't a piece of cake either. Cheers Dave.
Not only does it keep him travelling, he’s got a great storage bin for all his gear . Good on him a great idea
He’s back into the swing of things and enjoying life!
Good to see a Ural getting some air time (coverage, the other airtime is unthinkable) Urals are always popular at drinks time when bush camping and the beers /G&Ts appear out of the boot :) Good for us old buggers carrying an injury!
Chris #1 shows me that I still can. After this winter (Saskatchewan -40C) I will dust off my V-Star parked for 2 years trade it in on a adventure bike and get on the trails. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. Cheers 🍻
The new KLR is a worthy consideration (I just got one)- They are built to a price point but make a great platform . I'm on the Sunshine Coast BC.
Just being past your "best by" age doen't mean you have to give up riding. As long as you are fit enough, keep going. That said, a smaller bike may be in order. I am 75 and ride a Honda 600 Silverwing. No bush bashing with this thing.
Hey Steve I can see you on a ural. It would be great for carrying drones, cameras, a stash of decent real food in the fridge instead of tins of STAGG, computer, camping gear for a more comfortable camping set up so you do’t have to sleep on the ground”like a dog”
I wish I had your navigational skills with travelling down those narly tracks without getting completely lost. My GPS just goes green with the TOM TOM. I find it just doesn’t work at all in the bush making heading down bush tracks some what risky even with paper maps as backup that have tracks that are continually changing. I am impressed with your navigational skills and ability to not get lost out there. One day I might get serious about learning to navigate better as I do enjoy being out in the dirt in the bush. That trip would be up my ally 😊
Great video Steve
I’m not ready for a Ural…yet! There is a GPS black spot out in that country…it ain’t your GPS or your nav skills. If all else fails, head west. Eventually you’ll hit the ocean.
We had an 80 year old on GS310 on the BMW Rider training course this weekend ! He had a ball !!
Very impressive the Ural
I actually learned to ride on one back in the early 70’s
I was just a young kid !
650 Cossack as I remember
Glad to see Chris #1 back out on the dirt. Most of us get away with not eating the big one but in this ADV game we're only seconds away from distaster on any given day... maybe Steve could make a video re the logistics and implications of accidents in remote areas. It would be interesting to learn what sort of insurance can be helpful out bush.
We don’t bounce as good as we used too…
I also own a 2WD Ural and a KTM 1190 adventure best of both worlds. The Ural always has me grinning from ear to ear👍
Bike that’s got an esky is a winner! Well done Chris! Great work mate! 🍺🍺
My part of the world! Beautiful
Great one, that 2wd Ural is an interesting bit of kit
Great video! well narated :) Defiantely keen to see more Ural footage!!
What a stunning piece of kit that Ural is , great seeing him getting stuck in at 79 . I’ve a friend the same age driving a Honda fireblade.
A few years ago a mate of mine purchased one of that Ural for winter riding (north Idaho,USA). He said that when in both wheel drive the sidecar added some very "exciting" contributions to the steering during low traction moments. 🥶 👍/👍
An Awesome Adventure with the URAL, never knew they were 2 Wheel Drive.
Ordered a Ural I will be still 73 when I take delivery hopefully in May. Up till then will be on my 07 Dakar 650 for dirt and the 2021RT for seal. Looks like a great option, it's been over 40 years since I owned an outfit. Great video as usual only two years since I was on a heavy GSA, it was hard work.
Sounds like you’ve had an interesting life. Enjoy the Ural…I know Chris does. Glad you enjoyed the vid.
Hey Steve, enjoyed the video, it was great to see video of tracks and country that I am familiar with and ride often. I would like to have one of those Urals. Looking forward to the next video mate!
Another great production Steve, especially good seeing Chris #1 back on the bike. That Ural is a surprise 🙂
I am in my early 60s and bought a 2021 Ural Gear Up 2WD about 5 months before Russia invade Ukraine. I almost got rid of it but the owner of Ural is against the war and moved the plant to Kazakhstan after 80 years in Irbit, Russia. Truth is there are parts from 40 different countries on these newer ones. So I slapped a Ukrainian Flag sticker on it! Glad I kept her! The Wife and I have rediscovered the mountains and off pavement tracks here in the other WA,(Washington State) ,USA. It's a different skill set, especially in 2WD. That's a live axle under there! You can certainly go but it won't be necessarily in a straight line. LOL Great video, love the scenery and commentary. All the best to you an your Mates.
Good to see it didn't take you long to be out again . Another adventure ...good to see
Great title and great vid, I am 68 and ride a BMW K1600GT and still enjoy it. They say that there are only 2 types of riders, those who have come off and those who are yet to. I came off (I was riding a K75) and broke my shoulder blade and collarbone. Swore that I would never ride again. Then I saw that they fixed my bike and ok I will give it a go again. That was over 20 years ago. Once again well done, love your vids, I learn lots from them.
Once you experience the freedom a bike can offer, it’s pretty hard to give it up. If you had to explain it to anyone, they wouldn’t understand. Thanks for watching.
Another great adventure along less-known WA back roads. Interesting to see the Ural in action, and she seemed up to the task.
It did better than we all expected, in particular the Owner, Chris (#1). Thanks for your continued support.😀
No idea how you managed through that vegetation. I would have long turned around or given up! That was determination! Great video - BTW always enjoy the choice of music, one of the best parts of your editing. BZ.
Just a minor correction. The war time M72 in Russia was a direct copy of the BMW R71 from 1938 not the R75 from 1942.
Old Urals are relatively popular in Russia, but new ones are too expensive and almost all production is exported.
The two wheel drive is solid axle. If the rear wheel spins, the sidecar wheel does too. You can only use it in mud, snow and sand, although Urals are totally useless in more than two inches of sand.
Thanks for setting the record straight.
Ural is great for an adjunct with urinary tract infection treatment or an irritated urethra (as commentors alluded to, below). Nevertheless, a mild piece, just like my urethra flow.
Thanks Steve.
Committed subscriber.
PS - nothing wrong with the music :)
Amazing bike an story how it come about an to give Peter rebirth back into riding an at his age full respect. Great content as always
Who would have thought you could use your wind shield to push trees over !! Great trip
Thankfully, when I engineered the windshield I made it extra tough for the Aussie Outback lol.
Great Vid Boys awesome
Living your best life on the bike. It’s been a while since I’ve ridden but you guys make me want to get out again lol.
Another interesting video, Steve. It's a long time since I've seen one of those blue personal number plates; they were released in the late 70s from memory.
Trivia: Back in the 80s, then Club member Harry T built up 2WD outfit he named the Desert Rat to take a tilt at the CSR. Sidecar drive was of bolt up variety in that it was only fitted when on dirt roads or sand as it would be too difficult to steer when on hard ground. I can't remember if it was built on a /2 frame or later, but the engine was from an R75/5. Home made fuel tank was of massive proportions.
Well done Chris 👍 Good to see you back.
the beer fridge carrying capacity seem to be a huge advantage for the Ural
Thanks Steve, another fabulous little mid week adventure for the residents of Perth. So close the the bush too there! The big sticks the SW are nice. The Ural looked very curious. Looking forward to the next one too!
Test rode a Ural back a bit. Fun but took a while to get use to width. Cheers from Minneapolis Minnesota USA.
Nice vid and interesting to see the Ural in action. Fort Nine made an fun video on the same machine, worth a look I think. Cheers.
Great video Steve,it’s good to see the southwest of WA again. The Bauxite conveyer belt blew me away, how far does it carry the bauxite.I lived over there in the 1970s and worked on the Kwinana Jarrahdale railway that brought the bauxite down the hill to Alcoa at Kwinana. The Ural bike is an interesting bike.Cheers.
Hi RO, Boddington to Worsely I’m told by another viewer…52 KM long. Thanks for the positive feedback. Glad you enjoyed the vid.
Thanks Steve , great ride once again !
Was “shocked” Steve’s accident was already 5 years ago , wauw , time flies.
Remember that video so well, the ambulance showing up on that dirt road.
Yeah, time passes quickly. He’s all mended now. No permanent incapacity. Thanks for your continued support.
Every video has a get well soon message, just outstanding work.
No worries mate , just love your style of recording !
Nice goin, thought I recognised Chris, happy as he's vertical and riding. That conveyor belts interesting. Heard about it, first time seeing it. That Ural sounds like a good choice. Good walk around. Thanks m8, good one.
Top effort by Chris #1. Good to know we have options as the years pass. A great video and the music was fine mate. Thanks again ✌🏼
Another fantastic vid Steve. Keep it up
Great vid Steve. I was thinking that you’d never see me with a sidecar until you say a 76 year old bloke stops to turn on the fridge to keep the beers cold. I’m 54 and now have a new goal in life.
It gives us options...options are good!
I really enjoy your videos. I hope to get an adventure bike someday. Keep it up!
Glad you enjoy the Channel content...thanks for watching.
Nice one Steve O, fantastic content mate. That Ural is a showstopper ❤
That area south of the conveyor is a nightmare. I had to detour walking the Bibbulmun due to flooding and ended up crawling through that stuff for what seemed like miles. 🥵
I feel your pain…
hi 🖐
Steve, Have too tell my about your DR650 his didn't come with Paper Clips 🤣🤣
luved the video 👍😉
The paper clips are just something I find that comes in handy sometimes. Easy to clip maps, tickets, caravan park passes etc straight to the screen. They probably have other uses…I just haven’t figured them out yet. Glad you enjoyed the vid.
I will be 70 in about a month. I just went smaller and lighter on my current bike. At least with a sidecar ,you can't drop the bike ,and you could carry gallons of milk:]
...and you can keep the milk cold in the fridge!
Ural is back making bikes mines over 40 years old n still going strong
Good interesting video, handy outfit looked good fun, thanks for sharing.
Nice video Steve, never realised these were 2wd.
Good times Offroad I have contemplated looking into a ural, here in CANADA. The lever on side of the car to engage the drive tire, would be awesome in the winter on ice , through the snow. Have fun stay free
Great Video thanks Steve!
Music or not....I loved the video as I have loved all of them. Thanks Steve. And as I approach my senior years, the sidecar has got me thinking.....
Hi Bill, thanks for being a little more understanding than some...the sidecar could be a viable option for all us seniors lol. Thanks for watching.
My respect to Ural Chris 👍🇦🇺
Parabéns , do video e sussesso pra todos voces .
Muito obrigado. feliz que você gostou do vídeo.
Love watching you show here in Thailand have lots of motorcycles but not to many for adventure riding , I would love to go for a ride like you guys , I have A small bike 250 cc Honda only for main roads , keep safe guys love your channel
Great video production again Steve.
Nice southerly break.
Yes, it was….
Great looking bike and sidecar the ural
I don't know why, but riding off road on a Ural with sidecar is on my bucketlist, great video by the way! Greetings from Holland.

Agree, have been riding sinse 1957 and still going on my 2016 GU ural. just have to ride more defensivly as you age.
Hallelujah brother and Amen to that. Thanks for watching.
Another great trip. By the look of size No 1 Chris's tent, I'm thinking that he spoon's that Ural inside at night 🥰
That is very funny...and also very timely. He acknowledges (now) that the 4 man tent (along with some other crap that he took) was probably overkill and he will trim the packing list down a little next time. You and I both know...the bigger the Pack, the more crap you take. He needs to make more room for a bigger fridge so he can carry more beer.😀
Nice to see the South West again in country I know well. Next time stop for a while in that Murray River region and catch some Marron or Red Fin Perch near that Hoffman Mill site. I couldn't help but hear some Ural envy in those comments.... ha ha!! .....That track was gnarly as you said and I could smell the forest as you plowed through with that wet acacia, prickly shit ... thanks for sharing the adventure Mongrel Dog.
You’re welcome…glad you enjoyed the show.
Excellent. Seeing a ural will always remind me of that old movie. Le Strada i think it was called. That ural was used like a tractor. Gotta watch that movie dudes.
Found it if u decide to watch...

G'day Steve. Great videos mate, keep them coming. Just for interest that conveyor belt is owned by South 32 which runs from Boddington to Worsley Refinery just out of Collie. I'm not to sure if it still is but it was the longest single belt in the world.
I’m always learning….thanks for the info.
Awesome, I've just subscribed and sent your link to a few mates in Europe and the USA , they're always asking what's the riding like here
Welcome to the Channel. Enjoy the journey.
Great video Steve ride safe
I'd have a ural if they wernt quite so expensive. I'll for sure retire to one, preferrably before im injured ;)
Great content- I guess you dropped the music - As a boomer I felt I was in a 'safe place' 😆. I liked the pace and length of your trip and I like your presentation. I subbed. 👍
Welcome aboard. Hope you enjoy the Channel content.
Yeah, you're right about the too old bit for some of us. 69, just bought myself a Honda CB125E (Don't laugh. Haven't ridden for close to 40 years.) and easing myself back into it while looking to also do a bit of camping, exploring, etc. Thanks for your videos. Educational and inspirational. By the way, just how many Chris's do you ride with? 🤠👍
Glad you enjoyed the vid. All my friends are called Chris…that way, I only need to remember one name lol.
And the DR650s are knock offs of British single scramblers effectively;) ;)
Good adventure, Steve - glad Chris#1 is back on his bike after that horrible drama... Must give him nightmares, but glad he's up & about & still having it large! What do you call that scrub you were snared in, nasty stuff!
That scrubby stuff wasn’t that tough…just a lot of it. Thankfully, most of it was new growth and bent easy. It was also wet which made it more unpleasant. It made for interesting riding. The Ural made short work of it. You sit lower on the Ural so it was easy for him to duck under the heavy growth. Thanks for watching (again).
Great vid ,I have seen a front wheel drive Ural with sidecar 3 wheel drive lock in or out wondering if you have great vid.
Thanks for the tag-along --- nice country down that way. Bikes always looks fun and free until the rider is on the ground instead of on the bike. Had to smile to at the ambulance on that dirt/sandy road when some 4x4 drivers would have to have ALL the gear to go there
Colle (river): locked the key in the HJ holden ute there (ya, awhile ago) and one of the last blokes in the car park that evening was an off duty RAA (??) bloke so no dramas.
"private road"? Sorry mate; but I'm lost :)
"making it up as we go" -- that is my sort of wanderings and getting bushed is just a way see something not planned to be seen .
"BMW not to complicated" --- sort of why I'm looking a Mahindra ute/cab chases ---- even checked one out in Bunbury last week --- but not the one for me .
Stay safe mate --- Demark is a town (and area) I always wanted to get back to ;)
Have you ditched the GS mate? Jesus I just bought one after watching you ha ha!
Hell no…it’s in the shed keeping warm. I take the DR out occasionally to keep the oil circulating.
That's Worsley Alumina (south32) conveyor from Boddington to worsley refinery which is before collie conveyor is 52km long
So I'm told...I don't always get it right. Thanks for the heads up.
@@mongreldogproductions all good mate I work there so that's why I mentioned it keep up the good work I always follow you and love your adventures

Got me converted to the Ural
That wasn’t the intention….but it might be a good option in the future. Thanks for watching.
Hi Steve
Great video. Love to see the Ural in action. Think that will be my future bike too when I can’t keep riding on 2 wheels.
Btw Ural moved its entire company and production out or Russia to Kazakhstan this year due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine

Great vid mate, how’s ...Tom, was it...that come off the DR650 a couple weeks back?
Yes, Tom. He’s back in Perth now after being in Alice Springs hospital for 2 1/2 weeks. He is slowly healing.
I believe it would be great to do a lap on one of those things, you could even take your dog 🍻
Please show us more of your camping, overnight stays?
I'll try...thanks for watching.
Nice one sir, is everyone else in perth named chris.....! cheers 4 sharing.
Every second male is called Matthew here😆. It is so absurd that at work we have to use all sorts of daft nicknames as 50% of the crew are called Matt.
I only hang around guys named Chris….that way I only have to remember one name. 😂
G'day Steve, The URAL look's a very capable bike & seemed well suited for the trip, although being built in Russia the dam things would have to be built like a T34 to cope
with everything Russia has to through at it.
Have you ever seen the Russian/Czechoslovakian "Front Wheel Drive"? they have a tail shaft that runs to the front wheel & I have seen photos of them riding 3 feet up
a tree stump, it's a different concept & a fairly novel concept mate.
Safe Travels Mate, Steve.
I haven’t seen that front wheel drive….I believe there is a vid out there about the testing ground for the Ural. I’ll have to check that out.
@@mongreldogproductions G'day Steve, The name of the front & rear wheel drive bike is a ROKON built from around 1958 & then it was manufactured in the USA.
Hope this helps mate, Steve.
For off-roadability of the Ural, check out CZcams clip called "URAL Quality- Testing".
I downloaded an entire owner manual available from Ural.
Prior to a purchase. To learn what maintenance I'd be doing
in my new Century. Using part orders from Russia. Feeling
disbelief at all that while reading what Ural wanted me to know.
I also learned from other sources what Russia did to obtain
technology for their Central Committee of the Communist
Party and decades later for future export expectations.
It would ensure my ride quality remained static using old
standards. No buggy whip was needed but did I want to
maintain an era from so long ago?. I shelved the idea
and purchased a Japanese ride.
Steve, curious about the camera on the left side of your helmet. Does it shoot forward and back and have loop recording so you can grab the unexpected?
It’s a Contour Roam….it would be obsolete by now. I use it facing rearward because of its compact design. I only turn it on when I am trying to take footage of certain situations. Thanks for watching.
FYI, I thought “I found my way” was a particularly good choice. Hard to believe that criticism. I see he didn’t leave a link to his channel. Keep up the good work.
@@muzzkeg8172 Yeah, thank you for that reassurance. I found myself 'bopping' along to it hahaha. I checked out his Channel...no creative content going on there. Thanks for watching (again).

Hey Steve have you considered a Hema navigator for your trips?
Nah, too fancy for me. I swap the Garmin out between the two bikes. I’m not sure I can do that with the Hema. Maybe have to buy two cradles I guess. Thanks for watching.
Tough touring Steve. Any update on Toms recovery?
He’s back in Perth after 2 1/2 weeks in Alice Springs hospital. He is in a moon boot for some weeks after having plates, screws, more plates, more screws and some more bits of metal inserted to keep his lower right leg in one piece. He plans to have another crack at the Simpson next June.

Nobody I know has a DRZ…have you got all your facts straight?
Looks like Strawberry from Up In Smoke leading the way there. Fortunately no Ukranian deer hunters with pts in the vicinity.
Hello again, sir. Another well done, very well put together video. I didn't even notice the music, and I've played music on the road off and on for 40 years! That Ural looks promising. I think I mentioned earlier that riding a bike is out for me,( lost my right leg when I was 18) and although I'm horseback a lot, I just can't handle a bike. I tried when I was 20 or so, and about killed myself a couple times. But the Ural would work great, I'm thinking. Do you have a ballpark figure on what one is going for? Thanks, and I hope to be back over there by next Oct or so.
$28,000AUD for the outfit plus on road costs….he got the top of the range.
