Mongrel Dog Productions is all about Vlogs about my adventures in Australia or overseas and involves Adventure Motorcycling, Cycle Touring or 4 Wheel Driving. I usually use a bit of commentary along the way to help 'join the dots' so viewers get an idea of what the adventure is about as I continue.

We broke another leg today. We also had a Rider overcook a corner and he managed to miss the bridge completely and landed in the creek. The bike was completely submerged under water but thankfully his injuries were only minor. The sweep vehicle managed to recover the bike successfully (although it will probably be a write off). The day finished with the Farewell Dinner and lots of high fivin’ a...

Tough day today. 400km of a real mix of conditions, track types and weather. Two Riders down with some serious injuries after both bikes collided and a lot more minor ‘Offs’ in what were slippery conditions due to persistent drizzle. I even had a couple of ‘oh shit’ moments myself. Last day tomorrow…hopefully we’ll all get there in one piece. See you on the other side.

It rained most of the night…we knew that would affect the conditions. We left in the rain but it cleared up during the day. Too late to turn back now. Some of the more experienced Riders opted to take the more challenging Black Breakout route. Some were still out there after dark. Even the Sweep Vehicle struggled in the conditions. See you were having trouble with tubeless tyre seating...as an old nor West trucker we use to use a load chain and binders to reseat them.. so I was thinking in this day and age go to bunnings and buy a Ratchet n strap.. put it around the tyre then ratchet it down Hope it helps.
@@paulfarrell-n3f I have used straps at times to help seal the bead. Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn’t. I now carry a bicycle tube (it also works with a length of rope) which you sit around the rim, partially inflate and that bridges the air gap between tyre and rim (hard to visualise and explain). czcams.com/video/tBuDNUsgs0k/video.htmlsi=f_ULQJ_D89U3Cab4 Thanks for watching.
Using a ratchet strap around the tread circumference of a tyre wouldn't help seal it to the bead?
@@FairladyS130 I tried….failed. It has worked in the past. Just not this time. 😞
I’ve experienced a funeral nite in Cobar, evolution at its worst sadly
😞
Excellent life lessons for all....
Great vid Steve, Oh I remember very well the old Highway thought Gunning, and some of the other towns , the highways in the early seventies were so dangerous ( About 5 times todays road toll) that it was a serious consideration whether to travel at peak times , like Easter etc. despite complaints and the odd tragedy riding is far better now days that it was. Those rose coloured glasses were very deceptive.
i hope those poor bikers had a spare pair of pants
I know that bridge in the thumbnail very very well, i drive over it all the time, born and bred in that town. The bridge dates from 1881 and has seen a fair few major floods, one of the biggest in 1955. Really enjoy seeing your videos, one of the first i saw was where you were crossing the Nullarbor. I don't ride a bike myself but it always looks like a lot of fun.
Glad you enjoy the Channel content. Thanks for taking the time to comment. 😀
Don't worry about the Russian Ural..It will make it🤣🤙🤙
Hopethe fire alarm was not for a rider's nairspray!
Walk assist function on mid drive ebikes is something you never give any thought until you have to start walking....tracks, trails or stairs.
Amen to that. 😀
Hope all is OK, MDP. Hanging out for the next episode.
Hi Steve, What did you think of the Tractionator tyres, Alan Busselton
Hi Alan, I’d use them again if the journey was 5,000-8,000km long. Good hard wearing tyre with enough grip to get out of most situations. Noisy on the road but tyres are always a compromise. Regards.
Great adventure riding here Steve as always! The bloke on the crutches at the end, wondering if that was him that went into the water and was helped out. Lots of downed bikes Steve on this one, rain-soaked dirt and too fast at the corners mate, wonerful sponsored riding here. Looking forward to the scenery on your 5,000 km back to Perth (sleeping like a dog) Steve! Definitely the best adventure channel on YT. Always look forward to your channel adventures. Thanks for sharing and ride safe back to Perth! 🏍👍
The bloke on crutches was the same rider…walking wounded. Thanks for the high praise. Glad you enjoy the Channel content.
Did those cops give you a breath test. Typical 'for your own safety' Australia if so.
Blow in the bag…can’t afford to be too careful out there. 🙄
Great ride and video, did you record the tracks that you went on?
Hi Peter, followed the Mawson Trail in most cases. I only took a deviation if it didn’t suit for me to stick to the Trail. 😀
Geez, you're a braver man than I. Just wondering if a lighter bike would be better for what you do. 268 kg is a big lump when 50 kg less could mean the difference in leaving it there or not.
Maybe…but most of my journeys are many thousands of km’s and the bigger R1200 does most of it in comfort. I just need to be more selective on where I go. 😞
Looks amazing Steve...
Shame about the weather, but the terrain looked really interesting, nice change from flat, endless tracks. Wonder where you'll go across Tassie? We'll be looking out for youz! Safe travels.
We shall see
Another terrific video, thanks Steve.
Very welcome
Another great video series Steve, have safe travels back to the west, oh and I still haven't forgiven you for out bidding me on the ex army XT 600 all those years ago. "Par Oneri"
Hi Glynn, that bike served me well. It’s probably in Yamaha heaven by now. Time heals all wounds…eventually you’ll forgive me.😅
@mongreldogproductions ok fare enough your forgiven, that was the bike I rode for a few years until the recall back to the vehicle park. It was good to see it getting a new lease on life. Safe travels mate.
Fair few captains of speed, “roll out of it, there’s no medals or trophies”.
True dat.
Some carnage Steve. . . Old mate straight into a creek drop off. At least he didnt try to accelerate thinking he would clear it to the other side. Really lucky he semi walked away from his drowned bike. You do have a uncanny knack of being in the right spot with a camera at their wrong time. Thanks for sharing.
You could hook a fire hose to the vstroms exhaust and pump that creek dry if you wanted - just saying 😂
Hi , Steve can you tell me what GPS you have and is it any good , thanks
It’s an old Garmin S62…obsolete by now. I’m due for an upgrade. Thanks for watching.
Living the dream excellent series.
Check out those autumn colors will ya...
😘😘😘
You were not the first in a Dmax fr testosterone happen to. You were number 3. Others had the axel housing break of much closer to the differential. The cost of one recovery was in excess of $18000.00. Mitsubishi Pajeros ,early models had the same problems. A lot were taken into Mount Newman for repairs during which gussets were added to the housing to prevent further damage. Roof racks of the strongest quality should be fitted. And not overloaded. 47 trips on the Canning over31 years thought us a lot. Happy travelling in the future.
Nice goin m8, none of this is ever on Aus Tv. I've only ever seen one motorcycle jack, no bike on it. Just saw both! Reminds me of Phil from Chateau Life [Normandie France] and now Car Chronicles too. He and some m8s ran trucks and vans over to The Ukraine containing clothes and food donated to charities working over that way, 6 weeks in. 25:16in Do you think the goat was leading or along for the walk or just gettin on their goat? Anyway nice ride m8, Looking forward to the trip home. Go easy and stay vertical Eh!
Someone made the comment…it’s 2024. The goat identifies as a sheep. 😂😂😂
@@mongreldogproductions 😂Maybe my age showing, I didn't think of that m8!😂
Another Brilliant installment from MDG...What a trip that was I cant wait to see the vids from your return home...I can image you might go the GCR on the way back , I was told you can ride the Pipeline from Kalgoorlie to Perth off road have you done this ? Thanks for giving us arm chair riders a bit of adventure cheers Mate!!!
I’m currently leading a 4WD group to the Flinders ranges…the return vids will be a few weeks away. I have done the pipeline track a few times. Not much fun if it’s wet. Glad you got your bike back on the road. 😀
Well, there was that adventure but I'm more keen on your return trip, hope ya made home all ok..!!
What an interesting video, thoroughly enjoyable, well done Steve , keep them coming. Hopefully see you on this side again soon.
Thanks 👍
After you hit 60 doing things like breakouts are ill advised. Wisdom teaches you that testosterone will make you stupid and lots of time is what you will loose while you heal 🤣. Looking forward to your video of the trip home 🍻
Love your videos. How do you follow the directions. Do you get a digtal map to follow on your gps device??
Yes we do.
Great video Steve, safe journey back to WA
Thanks, will do!
Hi Steve, love your videos mate. Can you tell me if there is a bike meeting at Arkaroola in the Northern Flinders this year?
Yes…second Saturday in August.
Called the Off centre Rally.
Hi Steve, can you tell me where Colight light bars are Available in Australia? I can’t find them. Only a US site. No light bars like yours there. Thank you Keith
I found this…mine is a 22 inch I think… www.led-colight.com/products/colight-22-52-inch-dual-row-led-chips-laser-light-bar?variant=39610458079337

You and me both!

You're a great storyteller mate. Well deserved hitting 20K subs, I'm one of them 🙂
right before ''Jurassic Park'' you had me jumping on screaming ''WHAT IS HE DOING?...'' I thought you went for a drink, and up until I saw the bike I realized you're playing us again with someone else's footage... traveling with strangers is always a risk mate... two or four [or more ]wheels make no difference... keep it solo with a couple of mates that you know each other well to make it last...
Awesome vid Steve...
Thanks for watching.
Perfect video of why I don't do these big group rides. Mr. Dog was to polite in his criticism.
Courses for horses…were all different. 😀
It was great to see this orgainzed ride 👍👍👍 I will enjoy just as much watching your solo trip on the way home !!! The camping, the wide open roads, all of it is awesome to see ❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice one mate. Great shots. See you next time.
Thanks 👍
Awesome video! You are one hardcore rider :) Considering how much dirt riding there seems to be in Australia, does the market even sell motorbike tires that are good only on pavement? Just curious.
Yes…no shortage of options. 😀
So enjoyable! Thanks again for the great ride!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looks like an awesome event
Another great vid Steve, very entertaining, thank you for your efforts. Yes you've gotta hand it to the organisers of these rides. Something like droving cats, in the rain. A mammoth effort.
Thanks 👍
You didn’t have time to do some gold hunting at Hill End. That might have paid for your Tassie trip next year. 🙂 Thanks for taking us along. You were in my vicinity (north of Tamworth). You like scaring viewers occasionally. I’m sure everybody thought it was you that rode into that watercourse. 😱🙈Funny man Steve. Stay upright. 🙏👍🏻🦘
