(Erinaki, Sissy, Pandora, Angel, Hecabe, Eliana, Toby, Mellie, Alma, Tony, Montana, David, Victor, Natalia, Harry, Menelaos, Oliver and Margarita are all from the public pound of Sparta, Greece)
The dogs remaining in the public pound are now under the care of a local charity of volunteers, they all receive medical care, food and water, they are clean and taken care of and are promoted for adoption.
*a strange breathing noise at some parts of the video comes from my dog sleeping next to me as I am recording.

Omgosh!!!! This is a pound? 😢 what a hell hole. I hope and pray the people speak up and fight back against this treatment.. that is abuse and horrific. 😡

Different face of Greece....it's not the tourists are shown. It's sad, the dogs are the species that suffer the most of all. To change their fate, people should start from themselves: to rethink this, what they value most - living with dignity and begin from there. Dogs with their unconditional love deserve to live with dignity. I live in the country, where there are no 'public pounds', no kennels, no suffering, no homelessness ; each and every dog has his/her home and family. When someone dies, or cannot take care of a dog any more, the dog goes to a special dogs hotel, but there could spend no more, than an hour, just because another family comes and the dog is re-homed immediately. I can admit, I am shocked....I'm sad, I'm mad... Only good, there are still people like You, compassionate, with their hearts in the right place, eager to be of help. Thank You.
It’s such a shame that they allow facilities like that even exist. Thank goodness y’all stepped in to save them. What a horrible place.

What is it that allows tragedies like this? What is missing that creates this suffering of sentient, beautiful, loving beings that breaks the hearts of you and me? Thank you for the good things you accomplished and Thanks to the volunteers who took up this moral, ethical and loving endeavor because that’s who you and they are. Thank God there are people like you in this world who care enough to ask your questions. Ultimately, though unseen, it does benefit our species, humanity, to walk and act in heart-centered kindness and care lest we devolve to something way less than monsters. Thank you Valia & Save a Greek Stray for opening the gates of hell and releasing these poor souls from a fate worse than death. Even the souls who didn't make it at least knew they were being loved and cared for at the end of their journey.Thank you so much for all that you do.Your foster girl's eyes say it all, how much she appreciates you.

Thank you for helping as many as you could. We should stop allowing uncontrolled breeding; and we need desparately serious LAWS to punish those who intentionally hurt animals ..... I have five cats and two dogs. It is a struggle to care for them financially. However, I am committed. For those poor animals who are victims of homelessness and are out in the cold with no food or shelter; I pray that God will take the pain away. To anyone who tries to help. God give you strength and resolve.
Oh my god... this was hard to watch but it is so important to show the world that such horrific places exist. Thank you Valia for always being involved with your ❤️ and passion. There are no words to describe what I felt watching those dogs living in hell...😥😡. Much love and courage from Germany.

😢💔🥺 Jeepers tears are rolling down my face as I type this. How can people think this is ok to treat a living soul. Looking into those pleading eyes says enough. Humans neglected them, Humans created this over population of innocent dogs & probably cats too. My heart goes out to yourself & the other people who DO care. But can only save some. 😢

I always have to gear up when I know I'm going to click onto one of your videos. They are not always 100% sad, but I know that I will have to use 100% of my brain to watch them. I watch videos, mainly, as a form of entertainment or to escape the brutality of reality, but your videos demand something more of me, something I'm not always willing to give freely. And how selfish is that of me? In the end it's the least I can do for the animals living a life of hell and, on one hand, for you because you are the one entering the gates of hell to tell their stories. You're talented on so many levels, but your compassion out shines them all.

Bless your hearts💕❤️💕❤️for saving the dogs.Omg my heart felt broken😭 when I watch rejected, bony and skinny dogs. The authority should punish who carelessly did not take care those poor dogs. They should be responsible for the good health and sanity of the dogsl. After the people surrender thier dogs they trust they will be taken care off and this was the outcome. I felt heartbroken with the dogs.

Valia, another truthful and compassionate accounting of what's up there in Greece for the homeless dogs, and what many dogs face around the world....Much gratitude and love to you for drawing up your lawsuit and staying the course for this vulnerable and living creatures! You are absolutely, helping out your country face the reality, that these dogs are sentient beings and their lives matter!! Okay, maybe not everyone thinks so, but many do, and the more they see news pieces showing the deplorable conditions of animal shelters like Sparta, the more things will change, and I know it's been very slow, like so many other places. We here in the US still have so many homeless dogs, and we have a long way to go too!! But I do believe that love for animals from human beings, and for all animals, is becoming a cry for a rebellion....A rebellion of love and caring for another species besides human beings....💟

Eu já adotei quatro e arrumei um lar para outro que eu vi na rua.
The culture seems to be changing, but so slowly, too slowly. I have supported DAR in Karditsa and now I think you will be the second Greek animal rescue I will support.
Shocking! Absolutely shocking! Having watched the video one can't erase seeing these poor dogs from one's mind and thoughts; but, more importantly, one can't begin to find answers for the betrayal of these poor animals in such hellholes, nor can one erase their plight from our minds. Their government paid dog pound minders have no souls, no empathy, none whatsoever. Those responsible should hang their heads in shame. Are there more pounds like the one shown there?

That was heartbreaking to watch, and the local authority who ran that pound should be ashamed of themselves. Two workers can't look after that many dogs, but they can give food and fresh water, and they can clear up faeces once a day, what did they do? Dogs dying and looking so malnourished they may not last long either was like that of a concentration camp, I am so glad to hear that you took away the sickest dogs and the rest will be cared for by caring volunteers. I wonder how many other death camps there are in Greece! People who walk or work near these dog pounds need to help the animals inside, who cannot help themselves, report, feed, water, try and save these dogs they are not in there for murder, they are there because they are homeless!

Dogs (and Cats!) are the most loving and trusting creatures when it comes to humans - It is an undiscribable crime to treat beings that are so dependent and benevolent towards us the way we do. I have a feeling this will backfire badly on some us. I am just glad that there are people like you who do care and try to give those beings justice, the love and the respevt they deserve. Bless you!

Like always, your clip made me cry so bad. For so many reasons. I really, really thank you and all of these kind people, who were involved in this case and others as well. Never give up giving them a voice, a hope, a home or maybe even the opportunity to be seen. It breaks my heart, what some humans do to animals. Every single time. And I am now 5 years into animal welfare as well, but in Romania, so far.

You videos are heart breaking but it made me think of our local rescue and now I sponsor a kennel. They rescue from puppy farms. We are still trying to ban them in the UK. God bless you and all living creatures.

NO animal deserves this.
If this is how it is, I would rather see dogs killed (I say killed because the term IMHO euthanasia is reserved for those that can't be saved) in a humane manner than live in that hell slowly rotting away & dying.
I'm glad you made a difference for THIS encampment & it's inhabitants.
But how many more live the same hell day in & out until ultimately it's over?
I will NEVER understand such things
And Greece is not the ONLY place things like this occur.

I’m so ashamed to be a Greek.
When people call a person who is evil an animal it is such an insult as a lot of animals who could teach us so much with their love and acceptance. So delighted you got them out, the local authorities are a disgrace, with your videos it has made me so upset that a country I love to visit can be so neglectful and cruel to animals. In my country it is cruelty of a different nature, good pounds but killed after short period of time if no one adopts them or taken by private rescues. Humans half good half beyond selfish and cruel and so many complicit.
