    Calling out Riot and saying that changing the system is the goal of the team is genius. It's an actual act of rebellion and gives the fans something to cheer on. A team with a narrative just beyond winning is refreshing. It will be interesting to see if other disaffected fans join under the MxS banner due to this messaging.

      It was probably by a team backed by some shady sponsor to be offered all that money, the truth is no esports organization on the planet has that amount of money, it would probably be offered as shares in the company which with the way esports are going it's going to be worth nothing in two years.
      Crazy spending like this is the reason Orgs like Evil Geniuses which just won Champions don't have enough money to cover offers from other teams, I really hope Esports doesn't end up like soccer where each team is backed by a different betting website

      also as lud said in the video part of this decision was the chemistry of the roster that the players themselves were building at that point. sym wasn't involved in that, which again does not me he is not good/bad, just not who they were looking to keep.

    Would you be open to upgrading the Mogi design in a way that's not a complete redesign?
    Just spitballing but you could commission somebody to make Mogi more cute anime-esque, there's lots of value merch-wise in making them more kawaii desu ne~
    I get the aesthetic you're going for but the inspiration from Cuphead and old Disney feels more like just a yoink instead of yoink and twist
    I'm sure you had a vision in mind and the artist you got was trying to fit that to a tee
    Doesn't have to be a super complicated design, but something with a more even distribution of colors, having more interesting complementary colors instead of blue plus black/white, potentially changing the chubby cheeks b/c it wouldn't stand out in a silhouette anyway and if you try to make plushies they wouldn't really help (this might not be a big deal though), maybe even changing to a slightly different more suitable shade of blue
    If you're open to rebranding the name, might as well take the time to consider changing up Mogi a bit (although if you fully redesigned Mogi I think that'd be cool too tbh).
    And since Shopify Rebellion isn't going to be a static partnership forever and forever, they already have their own logo so they can stick with that.
    Don't need to also add creating a new mascot for them too unless you feel like that's worth.

    $40M offered to be a CEO of an e-sports team? That's insane. Literally they threw in like $1 million to start their own esports company (probably a lot more by now) and it's struggling financially. In a climate where many esports team are trying to get out of the industry it's amazing he'd get an offer like that. Just goes to show how CEO makes 0 sense. The value they add isn't worth their pay. Riot's biggest failing is introducing franchising into its video game leagues and subsequently the lack of relegation. All that ends up happening is you get teams which have no real desire to win, who simply sit on their spot until it becomes more profitable and they sell it, or the game/league dies and they lose out on a lot of money. The Biggest example of that is the NA LCS. You have these great young challenger teams full of local talent like DSG, with a decent amount of fans, who will never play in the tier 1 scene together, while teams like Immortals and Dignitas compete to see who can do the worst each season, and really only make roster moves to appear like they care.

    • @80AM.

      riot has yet to profit from esports and they have no shame in admitting it. they have a team that is dedicated to grow esports as a whole. it's a work in progress. you can't expect them to just figure everything out with perfect results without having experienced failure a few times. that's how company's grow and become successful. it's easy for you to sit there and say what they should and shouldn't do, but you have no idea how any of it works. "and really only make roster movies to appear like they care" , just based off this comment i can tell you're young. lots to learn, you'll get there.

      Valorants "franchising" is night and day different from Leagues system. Its a partnership program, not a franchised slot. If teams are consistently underinvesting, its quite likely they WILL be cut, no need to be dead last. The whole system Riot designed for Valorant is about keeping around good ORGS, not good rosters. Everyone is so incredibly shortsighted about how the system functions. I believe Tier2 needs more support, not incentives. Winning and getting the "guest slot" for an org does not guarantee their roster staying in Tier1. It functions more closely to an incentive program for teams to try in Tier2. It also adds to an orgs psuedo-portfolio they can take to riot as proof they're reliable whenever a Tier1 slot opens up (by adding new ones or a shitty org getting booted). Franchising systems have proven to be faulty with how esports runs. But this system is EXTREMELY different to how franchising actually runs. It's all about the quality of the team orgs, and honestly they have very little power or leverage when it comes to staying in Tier1.

    I do really wish Riot had gone with a relegation system like the UK's Premier League for soccer/football. Bottom 3 teams get dropped to tier 2, top 3 in tier 2 get moved up to tier 1. Far better system than the current one in Valorant where an ascended team could literally win the Valorant Champions tournament and then be demoted back to tier 2 immediately next season.

    • @bennettsnyder315
      @bennettsnyder315 Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@80AM. Yeah it's not really about whether Riot is making money or not. They'll probably keep losing money on it and that's ok because it's a marketing expense for them. But right now, nobody is making any money. All these VC backed orgs jumped into esports, spent a ton of money and basically got no return for it, and now a lot of them are getting out of league/valorant, or folding. I haven't seen convincing evidence that any esports org is profitable. TSM probably was for a bit solely because FTX wrote them a check, but obviously that's off the table now. Ludwig and Toast both seem to have interesting ideas about what a new model might look like, and I think Riot is crazy if they're not working with them as much as they can. The way things are going, Riot is either going to either have to fully finance the entire scene (which they clearly don't want to do), or we're going to see League/Valo esports cut back to very barebones/grassroots events (or both).
