    In 2015, Sweden welcomed approximately 60.000 refugees from the Middle East. They can practice their religion freely. Jan joins a large group of Swedish muslims as they gather in a park in Malmö for a joint prayer. Many refugees live in the rather rural areas of Sweden. Jan speaks with Shahla, an Iraqi Kurdish interpreter who teaches in the village Björnhammaren, where only refugee families live. He also residents like Alaa, a Syrian refugee with two wifes and nine children. The Nordic system favoured the acceptance of new religious communities. But isn't Nordic secularism now facing the limits of its principles? Identity drifts seem to lurk in the shadows. The intensification of debates on religion in the Nordic countries, especially following the incident of the burnt Qurans, testifies to the acceleration of secularization.

    What is the future of Islam in Europe? How hopeful can we be on an European, enlightened version of Islam? Is that something Muslims themselves actually want? And will it be possible to overcome the Europeans’ distrust of Islam?
    Jan Leyers goes in search of answers. He heads off to Sarajevo, Budapest, Vienna, Hamburg, Paris, London, Copenhagen and Malmö. He listens to the voice of experts and the word on the street and talks with religious men and women, with ex-believers and new converts. What do they hope for and what are their concerns? In this series, Jan stays true to his style: nuanced and respectful, without shying away from controversy.

    You definitely try to respect their culture but it's clear they don't want to respect yours. Im not even swedish, I'm just an indian and i know Europeans are fed up with us too because of all the migration but at least people leaving India are richer than average and educated than average in most scenarios so we are actually losing our best ones. But here i feel like Sweden is gaining the worst ones with 2 wives, 8 children's and he's clearly moaking that he wants a swedish women right infront of his wife and he doesn't really sounded like he's joking there because right before he said he had no problem in Syria.
    Swedish people, be careful here.

      Exactly how it is Indian friend I'm from Poland and we will never understand mass immigration of people with different culture by this you slowly losing's Your and crime is rising. Free money, free house so ofcourse they will come even from countries were is no war they just mix with refuge's and buy fake documents. Sweden is ruled by leftish policy which every normal country make to sink for example Venezuela. We also took few millions of Ukrainians but they have similarities with Us so not big impact in our society.

      Swedes have reached their boiling point. Sweden used to be a peaceful country. Now there's a gang war between two groups. People are getting blown up along with their houses. A guy with an AK is shooting another guy just outside the subway in Stockholm. It hasn't reached the level of violence that you might see in Chicago or Philadelphia, but we're not used to seeing gun violence. There are changes in the law coming soon. It's going to be really hard to emigrate to Sweden.
      I'm Polish but i live in Sweden. I went back to Poland and stayed there for 10 years. Indians in Poland were cool.

      Sweden is already changing their immigration laws, they are making it, so much more difficult for these immigrants to come, thank goodness Holland has had their elections and Geert Wilders, will be in power!

    In Sweden, like in any society, individuals from diverse backgrounds may face challenges related to access to education, employment opportunities, and social networks. These challenges can be influenced by various factors such as systemic racism, unconscious biases, and lack of representation.

    • @johnohara197
      @johnohara197 Před 4 měsíci

      Really ? I think you will find that Sweden, like many other European Countries are fed up with taking in these immigrants!
      You list the challenges that these immigrants may face, but you don't list the challenges that the indigenous population or society faces! Increase in crime rates, cultural difficulties, religious tensions, not to mention the cost to the taxpayers of supporting these people.
      Immigrants are going to find that in the coming year, new rules and legislation will stop this mass and illegal immigration to Europe, which is causing so much destruction! We, don't want illegal and mass immigration.
