Easy fix:
1st eye poke, accidental or intentional, is a 1 point deduction.
2nd eye poke, accidental or intentional, is a DQ.
This would no longer be a problem. It's just like giving sprinters zero false start chances instead of one free one. They basically disappeared once they got rid of the allowance.

First should be a point but also you could fix their garbage gloves. The UFC makes some of the worst MMA gloves on the market and it’s not even close. They force your hands open to the point you literally have to strain to keep them closed.
They have an apparel deal with Venom and they make way better gloves. The problem is the UFC won’t use another glove unless they can own it and sell it so they make all of the money off of it. It’s ridiculous to anyone that has ever tried another MMA glove and has worn a UFC MMA glove. They legitimately suck as gloves and are a huge part of the eye poke problem. Literally watch any other MMA organization and you don’t see these issues like you do in the UFC.

The gloves aren’t a problem. Just go buy a set yourself and you’ll see the don’t force your hands open at all. It’s the literal opposite. Opening your hands while striking and pointing your fingers out is 100% intentional. Jim Miller has the most fights in ufc history and has a total of zero eye pokes in his career. Fighters absolutely do it on purpose
Everyone complains about UFC gloves but if the refs just started punishing fighters for eye pokes and fouls in general this would never happen. The fight should never go to a technical decision when the offending fighter is warned over 5 times and has 2 offenses in 10 minutes.
Have you ever worn MMA gloves? The UFCs are the worst by far. They force your hands open and you have to forcibly keep them closed to make a fist. They are awful. Also Weidman should have been DQd but the UFC gloves are the worst MMA gloves on the market.

If you have to actively force your hand closed, as apposed to other gloves that make you have to actively work to open your hands, you will have more eye pokes.
Also Weidman is a cheater and was obviously trying to stick his fingers out to eye poke Silva if he rushed forward. That doesn’t change the eye poke problems in the UFC generally that are exacerbated by their garbage ass gloves.
