Currently running XTs on our works after I bought a set last year for my personal truck. I was so impressed with its overall performance we switched from toyo at2s to the firestone xt. Firestone has made some excellent improvements
For all the ko2 people, I run general grabber at2 tires, they do good in snow ice and somewhat good in mud, and they do not cost anywhere near as much, and you get a 3ply sidewall, plus they just released the grabber atx, I haven't used those but I will when my at2s wear out, the atx has beefier side lugs and a beffier side tread, it looks like it will be better in mud than the at2
BFG all day, I've driven all over the country with them, literally all types of terrain and weather, and put well over 30k miles and still have enough thread life for another 30k miles driving under the same conditions.
Finally You guys get out to the East Coast to do some REAL off roading. Back woods, Deep Mud holes and Rock crawling though Rock gardens. Hope you had fun!! Really shows why you get a Jeep!!!
You are so dumb you did not even listen to the video. You are the one making a ASS out of yourself with this comment. It is to train Military and other corporations for when they go overseas to other countries. In case they need to take control of a Taliban taxi. Kids these days. Such fanboys!
Chris Barr That's what I've been trying to tell him but he just won't listen. SMH
guy proulx Are you and dale couture brothers?. LMAO
guy proulx I've already answered you your question. and that is I don't care if it is or not because we have manly trucks here in america. lol
guy proulx Well actually the ranger passed the moose test so I guess it isn't the hilux. LMFAO
Finally a new tire from Firestone!!!! Seems like it's been decades.
I have used the Firestone Destination tires on my 3/4 ton diesel pulling trailers for work and I averaged 70 - 75k miles out of a set. I am glad to see a Mud Terrain now. Does it have the snow flake symbol on the sidewall?
Excellent tires, we have a pair of them on the back of a little 2wd Dodge pickup we use at work. The truck does great on muddy dirt roads.
There's a lot of pocketed great trails in VA. I live in Manassas, VA. About an hour and a half away from Orange. We have a creek, Bull Run Creek, and alongside of it is a very muddy trail.
Great report. Looked like you had fun in the mud too.
I just looked for a review of the Firestone mt2 and as I am watching I see Orange county VA that is where I am from and live wow I thought TFL was manly in Colorado that's awesome to go to different places to do review's
I'm from this area in VA and I didn't know about this place, might have to check it out, I really like my BFG KO2's
Excellent! Great review!
+John Ramsay Thanks!
Can you please do a review of the 2013 ram 1500 slt
How are the on road mannerisms of this tire? I know these are off road tires but I daily drive my Jeep so its important that the tires handle well on road and are not totally loud like the BFG Mud Terrains (great tires but they doubled or tripled cabin noise in my Jeep) which is why I run K/02 tires on my Jeep (better ride and less noise) and the offroad performance is rather good as well for the most part too
Ive bought three sets of these. My fav tire.
Yes this video is about the tires BUT at the right moment I saw that 75 series Land Cruiser in the background couldn't care less about the tires. Love that truck I wanted in my garage
+Cristobal Arriaga We loved it too.
is the sidewall 3 ply as well?
The firestones have a similar appearance to 2.5 ton military tires .
I've destroyed just about every tire I've ever owned within 20k miles. Right now I'm running a set of BFG KO2s. Hands down best tire I have ever owned. I have about 12k miles on them and they are still looking decent. They work good I'm all terrain. Never had a flat! And I do 50mph+ down rocky dirt roads!
Been running 33" Firestone AT's for a year now. The grip and tread ware is very impressive, but the offroad durability is starting to not look good. I have one lug that got ripped off and a few other big chunks missing. Kind of a bummer wish I got KO2's to be honest
I need 285/75R17 studded for winter work tires
This MT2 looks good :)
What's better: BFG Mud-Terrains, or KO2s?
In future test comparison , I would like to see a Jeep CJ with quadra trac vs a Wrangler Rubicon. Old vs New off road comparison
Welcome to Virginia. Luray Va here. Stop by and see the General Lee at Cooters off RT 211 . Luray Virginia.
+D Fisher Thank you for the hospitality!
My Ranger came with firestones, and were easily the worst tire I have ever had poor wear, could not keep pressure, I swore I would never buy Firestones again. Now nearly 20 years later my tacoma came with the firestone destination le2, actually pretty decent all around tire, im glad that firestone has come around.
I'm not going through all the comments and perhaps it's been asked, but where in va. was TFL?
KO2 are the best hands down, wow just wow. full size 5.7 tundra 4x4 i gt 70k out of first set and i went with the same again. BFG for life
Well they ain't mud terrain tires now are they lol, mud you use the KM2's
Jesse Andrew Simpson fair enough brother, I wasn't there.
So Firestone answer a few questions for me please. What is this new tires tread compound that is suppose to be better than the old M/t? I've compared same size tires in the old M/T vs the new M/T2 for weight difference from old to new an across the board the new M/T2's are between 10 to 11% lighter by weight, example the tires I run on my f350 285x70x17 the old tires are at 63 lbs the new M/T2 same size are 57 lbs or 6 lbs lighter, where did weight savings come from how do you keep the quality, strength, tread life, when both tires have the same advertised construction as far as number of plies both casing an sidewalls ? I called firestone an for nearly 2 hours got the total run around, no one could or would answer any of my question. So I asked my local tire dealer that sells your products for you, guess what he got the same total bs run around I did. I'm a engineer, business owner for over 40 yrs, purchased 10's of thousands of dollars worth of tires over my life. Tires are one of the things when I find a high quality product I keep using it, because me an my employees lives drive around an depend on it. Lastly my tire dealer gave me a price on set of 4 the M/t an Mt2 an the Old M/t was $1143 an the new M/T2 was $1005 difference of $138 less or $34.5 cheaper for the new M/T2 tires. To me an my tire dealer this made no sense at all. With all the cost evolved in research development an manufacturing bringing a new product to market, how did you (firestone) cut the cost of these tires by $34.5 each? Something smells badly. I'm thinking some built in obsolescence is being added by the bean counters in corp rut, because the Old M/T's last so long. Example, on one truck I've had 5 sets Of the old M/T's an average 46000 miles per set. I hope in 5 years the new tires have proven to be a good product, but highly doubt that will be the case. Please keep making The Old M/t"s the same way they are. Yes I bought the $1143 old M/T original tires.
So you bought the old tires because they were more expensive??? That makes sense. There are countless factors as to why the price could be lower on the new tires, the number one being that they want to promote them and get them out there over the old MTs that they will most likely phase out.
The new tires have a softer compound which may or may not contribute to them weighing less. They also have a new tread design with a much narrower tread width on the tire, and more spaces between the lugs, which can also be contributors to the weight. To date, Firestone claims that they have never torn a lug on the new MT2s which was not the case with the old MTs. Slightly softer compound doesn't mean weaker, as you want some give (inflexibility can be a weakness, IE brittle)
The new MTs have a totally new tread design which was developed through all their years of experience and research on the old design + computer simulation. The old MTs have basically the same design as on the original BF Goodrich MTs.
Also, 46k miles is NOT a lot of life on a set of tires, do you rotate them? While there are no long term consumer reports on the life of the MT2s as they just came out, from what I was told the tires were engineered to have at least the same life as the old ones if not more. I DID manage to get in touch with a product engineer at firestone to ask about the MT2s (took a lot of complaints over the phone until they had one call me back). I'd go for the new MT2s all day! Too bad you opted for the old outdated technology. I think you'll regret that once the reports start coming in on the MT2s.
I wish they would try to do reviews on fourwheelers and stuff like that
Haha 1st time I haven't seen Andre crap himself when going through a mud bath since his Hummer accident. 😂😂😂
+Stephen Bradley Andre continues to face mud head on! :)
The Fast Lane Car 😅😅😅😅😅
How did you like that VA mud?
+Campus Automotive Inc. The mud is fairly unique and it gets everywhere!
Va mud is different I guess our soil is different, seems like the further south you go in the country the more clay there is
i live in that area, one county over from that area. you all should come to dc area more, is that a public trail??
No, this is a private facility owned or leased by Overland Experts.
you guys should review the tundra
We have done many Toyota Tundra reviews on TFLtruck channel. Check it out!
WHERE IS THIS? I live in Virginia and the only mudding I've found is right down the road from me. I need a new area
+Jackson Westhoff Overland Experts facility near Orange, VA
Cant believe how many KO2Bros are defending a 30 year old tire in an advertisement video for a M/T
yall were in my old hometown. ain't much there. but eh....cool.
+Nathan Spence Cool!
I felt like andre was bit nervous on camera but its probably just me
Punctures!! You can't top the BFG. Further, give me that 76 Series Toyota on BFG's and I'll see you in Africa.
I see a lot of people commenting about BFG tires, which a certainly fantastic. That said, I have to give a hat tip to the Goodyear Duratrac. I've had my set for over two years, and they have seen some serious wheeling. Not as good as my previous KMs in the mud, but worlds better everywhere else. Quiet, amazing in the winter, and fantastic off road traction. The 2 ply sidewall is a bit of a concern, but thus far no issues. Primary purchase point for me was the price. $500+ cheaper for a set than the KO2.
What a shame most of the people that I know that have new jeeps won't take them off road
KO2 and KM2 are the best...hands down
I've had both Firestone Destinations and Bfgs. The Firestones performed worse in every condition except sand and that was on par with the Bfgs. If you watch the video again, you will see that the Jeep equipped with the Firestones actually slides more than the one with Bfgs.
And your point is invalid since the tire isn't even out yet. I guess I should also mention that it was KO's that outperformed destination M/T's. I can only imagine how much better KM's would perform, let alone KM2's. I understand that we don't see all of the video but again, watch it. You will see that the Firestones slide a heck of a lot more where as the Bfgs barely slide at all.
I've had the old Destinations on my '06 TJ Rubicon, wasn't happy, plus the tread life was horrible. maybe the new Destinations are good. i moved to the KM2s and had them on my TJ for 50k, never had an issue. when i wanted to move from 33s to 35s, I was able to sell the KM2s with still good tread life for $400. my '16 JK Rubicon is sitting on KO2 35s, besides looking sick (white letters out), low road noise with the perfect balance from Nantucket beach sand to NJ Pine Barrens sand/mud and PA mud. i'm BFG forever.
more importantly, wheeln is 90% driver and 10% rig.
Except BFG tires score dead last in almost all offroad magazine tests, are loud as hell on the highway, are overpriced, and have shown themselves to have weak sidewalls on the trail compared to other tires.
Lol, you guys who are shouting BFG!!! on this video are fanboys. Spend some time offroad and you'll see how crappy they really are compared to the real tires on the market.
LOL
BFG!!! All DAY! MT OR AT KO2!!!
Seem excellent. Would have liked to hear them on pavement to see how liveable they are there.
Nice way to copy the Dick Cepick tire
Yay first comment
