- We've been seeing a good flow of new nether features lately, including new smithing table functionality! But is this the right way to do it, is there a better way and what other improvements could be made with the new features?

crafting the invisible frames doesn't have to be that weird. you can just use phantom mambranes instead of leather
Makes sense since Phanthom membrane and leather were both used to repair the Elytra. So we can imagine that phantom membrane is "leathery". Nice suggestion.

Well sometimes
The mod Quark has Invisible item frames, but they're much simpler than invisibility potions: you combine an item frame with a glass pane, and you get a glass item frame. When you place it, it looks a bit like a glass pane on the wall, but once you put an item in it, only the item is visible. Also the items inside it render slightly larger than in normal item frames. Fantastic mod.
Your pfp sent me into fight or flight
I have yet to make a modpack without quark. Every since I learned of it, I haven't been able to. Even in my vanilla+ personal packs, I always have quark.

The invisible item frames could be an “item hook” crafted with an item frame and a tripwire hook. When they are empty they would display as a small hook on the wall/floor.

I was thinking the same thing, but maybe crafted with sticks in a hook shape
Exactly what I was thinking. Except I thought the crafting recipe could be more like 2 iron nuggets on top of eachother.
I actually agree
I get the feeling that we'll be getting more upgrades to weapons/armor in the smithing table in the future, to go alongside Netherite.
Edit: I mean alongside tier-wise, not in the same update
Liezuli give me fire based gear!
I personally would like to see upgrades with lapis lazuli. I think that would be neat! It'd be better than dying leather armor blue, don't you think?
I would like if we had different options of endgame armors, like lets say if you have a Diamond armor you could choose from options that would benefit your playstyle, netherite would be for tank players, enderite would give more agility and so on.
They should do a cave update and add even more ores that are equal to netherite in stats but they have a different special effect instead of not being able to burn in lava or knockback resistance and the items from the ores would be crafted in the smithing table

I think they should create even more “upgraded” item sets each with equal defense to diamond but with their own special effects and can be made in the smithing table. It could open up many variations in how to play rather than just one set progression path.
Netherite chestplate plus elytra could also maybe be a thing. I like this idea.

The blue lava could be interesting if released as its own block, with slightly altered functionality similar to blue fire dealing different amounts of damage compared to normal fire.
Maybe instead of blue fire some sort of acid? or some tar-like liquid since there are many fossils in that place
maybe it could make crying obsidian when contacting regular lava, and both tiles would be consumed to avoid farming. when it's not a source block it makes netherrack or something.
Maybe, as soul sand slows you, the “soul lava” or whatever, would be extra slow flowing, but doesn’t actually destroy items, but does more damage?
Would make is extra useful as a lava blade for farms and maybe even good in certain, specific water stream style item sorters?

I love the idea for the aesthetic change thing for the smithing table. I've always wanted to be able to create some sort of gem-encrusted armour and I reckon this would be a great way to implement it. Great vid btw, keep up the good work! ;D
Wow, you have incredible ideas!
As someone who really, really, really loves all things metalworking, I was hoping that the smithing table would have more functionality, like for example: It could be an "arms and armour customization station", where you could customize tools, weapons, and armour to your liking, much like from a mod called "Tetra" (fantastic mod, here's a link: www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/tetra ). Or it could be a crafting station for all metal equipment. It just seems wasteful to add a block called a "Smithing Table" and make it only craft one tier of equipment.
They will probably add new tiers of gear. The netherite has the boost of not burning in lava, and less knockback, maybe enderite could have the function of teleporting you back to land if you fall into the void. I like the idea of having different sets of armor in my enderchest that I use for different scenarios
@@0bread286 that would be cool
@@0bread286 yeah. Thats what I have been thinking since they added netherite. In future updates we could use different materials to combine with diamond or lower tiers to get different items with different stats. This cold prevent the homogenous all diamond people or now the all netherite people. This would add a tonne of variety and fits with minecrafts theme, letting the player choose their play style.
Do people not have the ability to see where this new feature can lead to? The Smithing table has a shit ton of functionality despite being a simple GUI. The Smithing table is not going to stay ''it only upgrades diamond to netherite'' forever.
That is true; I made a mistake in my comment and my thinking. I misunderstood Mojang's intent for the Smithing table. However, it's great that Mojang is adding more materials, but the Anvil seems better suited for upgrading equipment to those materials, although anvils are already quite powerful.
I feel like your ideas are really cool, but most of them don’t feel enough like vanilla Minecraft
A lot of the updates feel like that
@@TechBlade9000 THat feeling is basically just a mindset of not wanting vanilla minecraft to change. XD
I think they would work well with vanilla, except for the target block that gives you items.
I'm tired of hearing all this *iT isNt vaNIlLa miNecrAFT* crap. Sometimes you need to know that things have to change, or else it'll get boring. It's as if these veterans just want the game to be simple, and have barely any new features in. Sometimes you just need to learn to have fun with these new things.
Danté Lawrence Im very open to new features. Like I think the new nether biomes are going to be a large improvement. However, things like invisible items in survival, removing 25 leaves with one click, and a target block which deletes 8 of your items when you use it don’t really fit in the survival Minecraft experience in my opinion.
5:05 It would be the equivalent of vanity items in Terarria! I love it!
Lag is the problem with the hoe being able to destroy all the leaves. Imagine going into a dense jungle.
The idea of an emerald pickaxe made me think more about using the smithing table for upgrading diamond. Just like how you can use a netherite ingot to upgrade diamond, you should be able to upgrade diamond with other materials. When you do this, the tool/armor gets a special benefit based on what you add to it. Emerald could mean that you get more experience drops from the things that you kill/mine, Gold could increase drop rates for rare items, etc. It means that you actually have to make choices and can't just make one god tool of the top tier.
That sounds like enchantments with extra steps
Gold should make it faster like it does normally
maybe as an alternative to enchanting, you can place it in with certain items to enchant the item at a base level. Smith with a piston to get a knockback level. Smith with an empty glass bottle for respiration, a cobweb (spider silk) for silk touch etc. You can only add enchantments this way to an unenchanted item, but then they can be combined in an anvil to get better gear. Perhaps an (undamaged) shield to get a level of protection.
Would be a cool way to implement mechanics to tailor a late game playstyle vs just wearing only Diamonds (or now Netherite) and being op.

I have another suggestion for the crying obsidian portal. The idea is that the crying portal is unstable. Depending on the nether biome your unstable portal is in, the nether will leak out onto the overworld. This is kinda like the crimson/corruption in Terraria. In the soul sand valley, grass and dirt blocks randomly turn into soul sand or soul soil, and trees turn to basalt. Sand blocks become soul soil and cacti are broken. For crimson, leaves become nether wart or shroomlight, wood becomes crimson stem, plants become crimson fungi, and sand becomes netherrack as well as dirt which becomes netherrack. For warped, leaves become warped wart or shroomlight, wood becomes warped stem, plants become warped fungi, and sand becomes netherrack as well as dirt which becomes netherrack. These biomes spread into the overworld. If nether blocks are placed in the overworld, it does not spread. Nether mobs do spawn, and blocks placed by the player do not change. It could be useful for a zoo build, or for mob farms.
I absolutely love the idea of cosmetic features!
I think that "invisible item frames" should be implemented differently. It just does not feel "vanilla" combining item frames with potions, it does not fit into the vanilla game. In my opinion, a better solution would be (maybe?) combining any item with an iron nugget, making it an item that can be "nailed" to a block face. This would not leave any empty, invisible frames. Breaking the nailed item would just drop the item (and the nugget).
They should make them Glass item frames, with nothing in them; they have a class texture with the leather, and then invisible with. You make it by using glass instead of sticks in the recipe. This is a feature of the "Quark" mod

A bit of a critique: You seem to use the phrase "I don't see why not" rather liberally... Often times to suggestions that actually do have more than their fair share of reasons as to why not
The blue lava, for example - You compared it to different water colors but the water doesn't turn into different colors, just different shades of blue.
The hoe idea of it breaking down all leaves at once - Nothing else in the game works like that, the scaffolding breaks down all at once but not because you used a specific tool
It could be an enchantment.
But still I think those 2 suggestions are pretty good, especially lava turning blue on soulsand valley. They can make it if they want.
Fire turns blue because it is hotter, but lava remains bright orange/red at the same temperature (and it doesn't change temperature because it's a solid-liquid transition).

good, had me worried for a sec that Mojang is gonna confuse stonecutters and smithing tables
Quark already solved the invisible item frame issue. It has a item named "Glass Item Frame" which has a glass border when nothing is in it and dissapears when something gets placed in it.
I think a cool way to implement the invisible item frame is to make a new item entirely called a tack. It could be crafted with a stick(or maybe a fence) and a cobblestone slab on top. This could be placed on any surface of a block and work fine. When no item is being hung up, the tack would stick out of the block making it obvious it's there, but it would disappear whenever you placed an item on it.
would be really cool if you could use the smithing table to "smith" a stone pickaxe by using a wooden pickaxe as a base (like diamond to netherite)
I actually disagree with the last idea. The blue lava itself sounds really cool, but it would look too much like water. Mojang usually tries to avoid these accidental similarities, kinda like when they added ruby, but then decided to change it to emerald since it looked too much like redstone. Plus, how will this blue lava react with regular lava? Is it going to make a new block? New effect? And how would you implement the generation of blue lava so that it doesn’t intersect with regular lava? Interesting suggestion nonetheless.
PopLopChop It will literally just be lava with a different texture like how water turns green in the swamp
1. It's not translucent
2. It's a different shade
3. It's a different texture
4. It's a different animation
5. It has different sounds
Don't think you can be mistaken that quickly
Also, he said it would work like water in the overworld, so I think the lava should turn blue when you enter and turn back orange when you leave the biome. Like how the fog in the different biomes changes colour
1:28 Just make them how quark does them. They are made out of glass, and when an item is placed inside it becomes invisible, but when the item is taken out, it appears again.
Personally my idea for the smithing table is that it works as a way to upgrade diamond gear into special use items. For example, netherite is great for durability and for protection but there could be other equally rare ores in the overworld or the end that give you abilities such as increased mining speed, faster movement higher reach etc.. basically have a branching upgrade tree post-diamond of specialist tools and armour made through the smithing table with these rare ores
I'd love it if they made the smithing table something you'd use to upgrade all types of armor.
Right now I get that the path from No Armor -> Iron Armor -> Diamond Armor isn't a super long one, but you rarely ever see use of Leather, Gold, and to an extent Chainmail.
What if you could upgrade the different armors for a reduced price at the smithing table. Say Leather chest upgrades to Iron (or chainmail) for 4 Iron instead of the usual 8 to make a new one, and it keeps the enchantments, making enchanting at levels below 30 a little more appealing. With the grindstone, even if you do upgrade all the way to Diamond, you won't be stuck with low level enchants, you can just disenchant and then put level 30 enchants on the diamond armor.
Then maybe also have an "outfitting table" where you could do what you suggested, making cosmetic changes to armor and tools.
You know how gold tools are faster? What about an upgrade to gold that would make it have more durability while having the same mining speed? Specialized tools and armor would be very cool and you can customize it all according to your play style. Live in the nether? Slap some netherite on your gear. Like mining in the caves? How about an upgrading that pickaxe to mine a lot faster. Living in the end? Boom, now you're elytra auto deploys incase you fall into the void. Etc Etc. Possibilities are endless really. (Oh and specialized armor for fighting bosses/certain mobs. Personally really hate skeletons)
8:35 Destroying the entire canopy is a step too far I think. Just being the primary tool for leaves would be enough
My idea for the invisible item frame is adhesive tape, which you'd craft with a slimeball and a piece of paper. You can put it on a block and it shows up as a little white square and you can stick items onto it, covering up the tape.
Perhaps if you create a small portal out of crying obsidian and some End-related blocks, it brings you to an "End Room." The End Room is a fairly small room (possibly only a single chunk) that only you can get to. If someone else tries to go through the same portal, they'll end up in their own End Room. Kind of like an ender chest, but as a room.
-When you're done interacting with the room, you leave through the portal at the top of the room (and be sure to break the overworld portal so you can take it with you).
-When something leaves the room, it gets launched upward and forward in the direction it is facing so it can clear the edge of the portal.
-Portals can only be one size, which is 4x4 (a 2x2 hole in the center). Otherwise, you would get stuck in the room because the portal was too big.
-The End Room will keep whatever you left in it, even mobs if you create them inside the room.
-Mobs outside the room can't enter through the portal, because how can you tell which person's room they go in? Are they tagged by being pushed? Do they have their own room, and disappear forever? So mobs cannot enter the portal. However, if you create a mob inside the room, it can exit through the portal. (Maybe it's also bound to that End Room, and can re-enter the portal? Undecided.)
-If someone breaks the portal while you're inside, you instantly leave the room. Otherwise it would allow players to harvest infinite End Room portals, because there would need to be a new portal if you were to leave. It would also allow players to hide in the End Room if they could stay permanently.
If they're gonna make the smithing table a sort of gear upgrader, it needs to be able to do more than just diamond to netherite. The simple one is to allow it to upgrade other tools: wood tools to stone to iron to diamond to netherite. I don't know where else it could go, though.
I actually wanted this to be added to the game ever since netherite was introduced.
Edit: The smithing table upgrade thing
What thing?
nathan bricks you can upgrade diamond equipment to netherite equipment using smithing tables
Oh ok I understand now
Imagine someone making an Australium diamond sword and getting bodied by it
I think the way you could make invisible item frames would be to shear an item frame and it would drop some leather
I think the smithing table should have a 3x3 grid, alike the crafting table. This leads to it being used as a way to create more intricate recipes for "upgrading" items. The use of precious materials, like emerald, lapis, and netherite could be core components to these new recipes.
Weird how no one has watched the whole video yet
2x speed
Nah we just saved the video on x2 speed and reposted it and watched it in x4 speed
This comment aged faster than wood planks on lava
@@highguardian13 i get you made a joke but reposting the video would take longer than 5 minutes so 2x speed is still superior
@@Lysergic_ also by the time you download it why not open in a desktop program that can run it at 10x speed or more
I pereonally find the suggesting of making netherite into just a skin for diamond wouldn't be just silly, it would be completely stupid unless netherite became infinitely easier to get
5:47 I think the smithing table should be for item variation (netherite gear, fancy elytra, different tridents, etc.) and the stonecutter should be block variation (stone bricks, quartz pillars, etc.)
The way you placed that crying obsidian into that basalt pillar with the items around it made me think of it giving you a water coating that gives you fire resistance for a bit.
I think a simple item frame & glass recipe would be fine, potions sound too expensive and hastle-ey.
