So basically, as long as EA doesn’t buy Minecraft we’re good.
Edit: Mojang (yes, Mojang. Microsoft most likely had nothing to do with it) just made the single stupidest decision in the history of the game. I don’t think it’s enough to kill it, but it still hurts.

There is almost no chance that hytale can kill minecraft since hytale seems to be a blend of sandbox and rpg while minecraft is sandbox with minor rpg elements. So unless rpgs get more popular hytale will remain second banana. But anything is possible so we won't know until hytale becomes playable.

    11. The same way older games, like the earlier battlefields, have unofficial servers that will keep them alive for as long as some interest exists, Minecraft will always have unofficial support as long as there are people that want to play. With endless mods, plugins, and gamemodes to play with, it'll take years to explore most of what the game offers. Even when most of the player base has moved on to other things, there will always be a small, dedicated community in the game. Minecraft will meet its end slowly and gently, when the playerbase has dwindled to an unsustainable amount. Whenever that is.

If humanity has already colonized other planets by then, it is likely Minecraft will survive even that, and will continue to survive until the inevitable heat death of the universe/freezing over of the universe/total collapse of the universe/imploding of the universe leading to a second big bang that would start the cycle over again and have Minecraft be created again in a different world

The thing with Minecraft is that it's one of *very* few games that's proven to be truly multi-generational. That's it's strongest asset.
It defies trends. The gameplay loop satisfies this deep urge in the human brain. You could go 100 years into the past or the future and kids would still love it. That's why, design wise, I think it'd be really difficult to knock Minecraft off it's stride.

@Blade Gaming If you feel like Minecraft seems to "lag behind" mods in adding features, I think that's because Minecraft takes a very, very cautious approach to it.
Minecraft has an enormous and diverse community to satisfy. People have different preferences and hardware limitations.
A mod, by virtue of being a third-party, specific mod that people seek out, it's much easier to give users what they want.
Mods have no obligation to be compatible or balanced with other mods.
Whereas Minecraft updates must be thoroughly debugged, new features must be compatible with old features without making them obsolete and should consider the longevity of the game.
It gives a very curated, minimalistic and grounded attitude to features as a whole.
Contrast a game like Terraria, a 2D RPG sandbox with more of a "mixing pot," wild attitude towards adding features. Yoyos, a tower-defense-style event (both including collaborations with lesser-known companies), outlandish events with unusually specific inspirations and innumerable references to other media in general.

@Blade Gaming I don't think any cave mod successfully pulled off local water levels, though. Plus, the 1.17 cave biomes are already miles better than any cave biome mod I've seen. The addition of copper also fixes the really big issue of having way too many mods add their own version of copper. Mods have done what 1.17 is doing, but only in small amounts, and now it's going to be available for every player.
