Alternatives: put a capo on first fret, tune EADGBE and remove capo.
Or put a capo on fret 2, tune EADGBE and move capo to 1 for halve a step down. If your guitar plays easier with a capo, you can play both tunings with a capo :)

I have a Maton expensive guitar and I made my best to low the tension, guitar action etc but it is not so easy and my technician was also helpless. So I decided to use this tuning to low the tension and play more comfortably. You are not in position like Tommy Emmanuel who has a technicians to addjust everything perfectly for E tuning with acceptable results without buzzing etc...

This tuning is the most popular way to get used to playing the 12 String Guitar cause with a 12 String in E Standard Tuning that is quite a big strain, but when you tune down a half step you'll release some of that tension. So Eb Tuning will reduce the string breakage by quite a significant amount even with a set of 8's. This tuning will also make it easier to sing the high notes.

@@angusseletto1511 Awsome ideal for your new semi hollow body 12 string tele and man it'll really get ya into stevie wonder music. Any Guutar with 6 (or more) strings can handle that lower tuning of down a half step cause it reduces the strain on the neck and the singing voice especially if you've been singing for a long time. Even with the lightest gauge of strings (Earnie Ball 8 Gauge 12 String Electric Strings for your 12 String Tele) it'll reduce the string breakage by quite a significant amount. One of many songs that's ideal for Eb Standard Tuning would be Superstition by Stevie Wonder cause it's in Eb Minor and you'd just tune your Guitars down a Half Step to Eb Standard and now you're in E Minor, it also makes playing in Flat keys much more beginner friendly and more in tune. A capo comes in handy and even a zero fret will lower the action even more. The 12 String Electric is easier than a 12 String Acoustic cause it has lighter gauge strings, and a much easier action for the left hand. A semi-hollow body electric is much easier to carry cause it's lighter weight especially for those who have back problems.

@@angusseletto1511 Can you try Stayin Alive (Glee Cast Version) on your 12 String Tele strung with Earnie Ball 8 Gauge 12 String Guitar Strings? Eb Standard will put the music in a much easier key. Stayin Alive is in F Minor, and in Eb Standard now you'll be in a much simpler key that has Fret Dots which is F# Minor. Even with those super tiny Earnie Ball 8 Gauge strings, Eb standard will reduce the strain on your guitar neck and also on your singing voice. Eb Standard is also great if the song is a little too high for you to sing and you wanna go down a half step.

@@holyvacant1427 yes I have, tuning my stratocasters half a step down required me to put heavier strings on them.(.11-.54).... But I can say that a Stratocaster neck is similar to a telecaster neck as far as adjusting the truss rod. If you want to use heavier strings and down tune a half,or even a full step on a Tele,I would Imagine all you would need is to do a "set up" after putting new heavier gauge strings tuned down(you can't use light gauge like .9 through .42 or they'll be flapping in the wind). If you're going to go a half a step down on a telecaster? I would put .10 through .46's on it.(to start out with)It should be fine(remember to do a set-up).in my own opinion personally I think it makes the guitar ring like a bell better, & have a better tone,& if you use the neck pickup mainly on the Tele, you will be surprised how much of a Strat neck pick up type sound you'll get out of the Telecaster..good luck man I hope you enjoy yourself and it works out for you and I truly mean that.✌️😋✌️

I agree. Heavier, warmer. On acoustic or electric too. So many of the biggest bands ever tune down!

This is a pet gripe of mine. I have heard a hundred different reasons why e-flat tuning is supposedly beneficial. Personally, I see it as a cultish thing. There is one thing (besides playing with E-flat horn sections and "black-key" keyboard players) it comes to is, "Because Jimi did it!", BUT lo... Jimi was playing in E natural UNTIL he started singing as a front band leader for over a year. His first recordings Hey Joe, and the B-side Stone Free (of the UK single) were standard tuning. All of the Are You Experienced album is standard tuning. But from Axis on, he tuned low... so he could sing more comfortably. Only a bass-player had to adjust. But when he jumped on stage with Clapton and Jack Bruce to jam, you can bet your Marshall he was tuned to standard pitch. If you like the looser feel, use a short-scale guitar or lighter string gauges. Duh.

Sad no mention of Nirvana. I always tune this way . it is because of my love for the sad nirvana sound. Also if you drop d it sounds very much like tool.

If anyone using GuitarTuna on their phone, just put a capo on the first fret and tune it in standard tuning. You're welcome! :)
