Thanks man - I really appreciate it! Squier make good guitars - try out a bunch if possible, and I'm sure you'll find one that speaks to you. This particular guitar started its life as a Mexican Fender, and after years of playing it, I decided to mod it to within an inch of its life - so that approach is absolutely a lot of fun too. I would recommend that you have a specific build in mind when doing it though - the aftermarket electronics are a bit of a jungle out there, if you're flying blind. Research will be your friend.
Awesome video, totally enjoyed your jam session! Question about Eb tuning, I’ve heard that it’s better if you have heavy gauge strings verses lighter gauge strings is that correct or no? Right now on my Strat I have: .0085, .0115, .014, .024w, .032, .044 from Stringjoy.
Those might be a bit light for the Eb tuning. I use .10s on my Eb strat, but you'll see people using anywhere from 10s to 12s. .10s might feel quite good for you, if you're used to lighter gauge strings. Thanks for all the kind words - really appreciate them!
Better, worse? If you have a light touch, lighter strings will be better - I'm sure you must be used to that by now. Heavy strings can mitigate the loss of string tension that tuning down gives you. The best you can do though is experiment... but I'd definitely start with .10s given your history :)
That's certainly part of it. I'd argue that more important are: 1. String tension in terms of playability and the attack of the notes. 2. The different register simply brings with it a different sound - much in the way that D major doesn't really sound like C major. The combination of these changes mean that the guitar will both play and sound differently: A change of personality for a familiar instrument, if you will.
Key points: Feel and tone change quite a bit - even outside the change of natural keys on the guitar While there are cases, where a tuned down guitar helps me play in a different key (particularly if a singer wants to drop it a notch), that's usually not why I downtune my guitars. They play and sound different, they almost become different instruments. If you employ thicker strings to compensate for string slackness, you end up with even more of a change. I recommend experimentation, since I usually find it very rewarding. I play in a lot of different styles, and therefore exploring different tonal opportunities is very worthwhile to find a fresh and appropriate sound for each project.

I have a 60’s classic vibe Strat. I replaced all the pots and swapped in some Tex-Mex pickups.. it sounds delish.

I've tuned my guitar's to D standard.
That's fun to play around with as well, particularly with heavier string gauges
D# has the edge for me just because it has so many available songs and E standard songs still sound recognisable in it.
Fortunately you don‘t need a strat in standard tuning
