      oldcrow45 Be warned, it only worked for about another 6 months. Then I tried to replace the motor and it died completely. We replaced it with a mechanical one!

    6 years later, and this video is still helpful! I have a different model. But the guts operate the same. This worked for me too. Thanks so much!

    0:17 Thank you so much. My garbage trash can is 13 months old.
    I accidentally hit the lid when It was open. After that, it will open, but it was closing only halfway. I went to the Ninestar website and tried to buy the lid. They had many lids for sale the price was $35 not bad but the lid that I needed wasn't available. So
    I saw several videos trying to address that situation. Yours showed me step by step how to fix the problem.
    Blessings 😊

    I found one of these trash cans at a free exchange center.
    I was thrilled to find out it was motion activated.
    However, when activated, the lid only opened 2". That's probably why they gave it away.
    But thanks to your video, I found the notches, and spring, and readjusted to the farthest back notch, and it opens wide now.
    Thanks so much for sharing that tiny bit of knowledge.
    It made a big difference, helped others, and saved some trash cans from an early death.
    In my internet travels, to find out more about this mechanical wonder, I saw a post, of what one should do if the mechanics fail completely.
    Just install a knob or handle on the lid, to open it easier manually.
    Maybe a dowel across the top, that could be pushed up with a knee, so it'd still be hands free.
    It wouldn't be "touch free", but many trashcans aren't, but it might extend it's life, and keep it out of a landfill, a much longer time.

    Excellent fix, I tried it and it worked. Thanks. I have two more slots to go if I need to add pretension to it. At least it's opening better than it did. I checked out some other videos that were 10 times longer and still didn't answer the question, you did it under a minute. Thumbs up 👍🏼👍🏼

    My can was sluggish, didn't close or open all the way, had inconsistent movements. I have a newer model but got perfect results using your advice (I tightened both springs). I took a ballpoint pen apart and used the hole in the tip to grab the spring ends -- couldn't have done it without it. Thank you.

    Thanks Ben, I didn't have your exact model, mine is a DZT 50-5 which I couldn't even find on the Nine Stars website, I guess it's been discontinued. Anyway, the spring and adjustment on mine was located in a different place..... but it was there. Your video was very helpful and seems to be the only one I could find concerning this type of problem. Best wishes.

  • @delmarantiqueshowsale1423

    Awesome video, saved my Ninestars trash can, which wasn't cheap! Only thing missing is the warning that the darn spring adjuster can snap back to the rear of the motor. I had to go borrow a pair of needle nose pliers to be able to grab it and finish the adjustment LOL.

    Thanks. I opened it up and found that a plastic piece had broken and was probably interfering with the opening. I adjusted the tension while I was in there. Hopefully we can get another year or so out of it (we’ve been using it for 7-8 years already).

  • @deutschermatt
    @deutschermatt Před 6 lety +1

    Great help thanks! This was part of my issue, and I also had the plastic gear underneath the motor snap and come off so it wouldn't raise at all. I was able to take the motor out easily and screw the gear back on and it's fixed. So if a little bit of plastic gear falls out when you open it up, that's what it is.

    Wonderful video, putting my lid back together. Was taking it apart and thought...maybe someone has had the similar problem. And it makes sense those springs my loose tension, or the gear is wearing and it needs a little more umph to get it to fully open again. Thanks a lot!

    Worked for me. My spring was even further back than middle so I adjusted to middle tension. Any idea what the reduced life would be of the spring to increase to the one shown on screen?

    • @artsandcraftsmanship

      My motor eventually died, they are pretty poorly made. I tried replacing the motor only to find that something in the circuit board probably went bad too. We just have a mechanical garbage can now. Not worth the hassle...

    • @deutschermatt
      @deutschermatt Před 6 lety

      That would be electrical. Open it up and see if all the motor connections are in place. You can compare it to a still frame of this video (seconds 16 & 17). Do the same for the front sensors (good shot at second 10).

    I have the battery powered version of this, and I cannot figure the wiring out after taking it apart. Should have taken a photo. After taking the motor out to replace, which took 2 weeks to ship to me, one wire came off the switch, and now I cannot get the lid to close. It only opens. I tried reversing the polarity on the motor, but can't seem to get it to close still. Any ideas?
