Why do I always get sad when I hear this? It's the scenario, isn't it? It's the end of the story, and people don't really know what to expect as a real ending since the game ends however you want it to, in your mind. It's kind of weird. Some people go full psycho and go for the genocide run directly after, and some don't even dare to touch the game ever again, 'cause everyone knows how it works with the resets. The power of story and music, ladies and gentlemen.
When I was done with the game, I simply put it on a USB drive, never to be touched again.
That is until I accidentally formatted it while installing Ubuntu.

Undertale remembers. No matter how long you leave it, it will remember the choices, the actions and endings you got.
I think it’s also the name of the song. Respite means a brief moment of peace before the worst comes (the genocide route). This happy ending the player works hard for won’t last
I just looped the video in the background of all my tabs.
A lot of these softer pieces make me so emotional.

It literally brought me to tears. The piano is so beautiful and it just gives you a punch to the heart. I cried throughout this whole video it was beautiful and emotional all at once.

i’m so late but this song really reminds me of a storm, with the eerily calm beginning and end and crashing thunder in the middle. it’s so pretty and i get such clear imagery from it. excellent interpretation!
Oh my God...this made me cry all over again. It doesn't sound like it's for a happy ending, because it almost isn't. Everybody gets the happy ending, except one monster. Asriel Dreemurr. The monster who's been through hell. The monster who deserves a happy ending more than everyone else. The one monster to not receive it, to be trapped in his personal hell forever.
It hurts my heart that out of everyone in the Undertale universe, Asriel is the only one who doesn’t get his happy ending. Hopefully Deltarune will give him that, otherwise I will personally hunt Toby down and make him change it.
@@thepurpleperson3765 Regardless of what happens in Deltarune, just remember that he never lost Kris, and he himself never died - by all means a much better life at the very least

Because it’s not a happy ending, it never was. It’s just that; A respite, a break from hell for a little while. I like to think that the ending shot, of everyone on the plateau overlooking the world from the barrier is from Asriel’s point of view; Asriel looking back at his friends and family one last time in a moment of respite before it fades.
It's been 15 minutes and I can play the song until 0:41, I'm proud of myself. I'll keep going tomorrow)

Just came back here after four years bc of the recent reply.. damn it's been so long. I'm not longer obsessed with undertale and honestly it was gone from my life but just yesterday I got the game again because I was feeling nostalgic. Undertale was there for me back in one of the darkest times of my life and now in the pandemic I'm back in a dark spot, but this time Toilet Bound Hanako Kun is there to help. In summary, for me, Undertale walked so Toilet Bound Hanako Kun could run. :) I don't know who is reading this (probs no one) but I hope you have a good day

I count this as the most divine track in Undertale.
This is just what I needed as BG music for my story. A hopeful, but almost bittersweet song. And a more soft arrangement of the original. It works great for what I'm writing right now. Thanks! :D

What samples did you use for this MIDI file? It sounds so deep and clean :o
It's part of the Sibelius sound pack. I don't know if it's available in VST or soundfont formats. As far as I know it is a proprietary format.
LyricWulf Whaaaat? Whenever I make midi files with Sibelius it always ends up with the generic midi sounds. How did you do it? I tried everything.
+Malkom Lind idk much about this stuff, but MIDI files will always have generic sounds. Save it as mp3 or some other audio type.

To the people saying the name implies you're going to do a genocide run, it doesn't necessarily mean that. It could be referring to how it's a brief moment of calm before the monsters face the humans on the surface, and the hardships that will likely come from reintegrating into society. Pretty much all calm moments are just breaks from the difficulties of life if you think about it, so it could just mean that. Maybe we're just meant to interpret it how we want, though. Maybe it is the genocide route, or maybe it isn't, I guess it depends on if you actually do a genocide route.
