This video always makes me sad because my cat Lucy died because she was old but the week she died she went in my room while I was learning this song and she wouldn't leave and she was just listening and I promised her that I would complete the song and later that week she died so this video means a lot to me but I'm halfway done so I'm half way to finishing this promise (edit: 3 years later I'm still getting reply's to this. No I didn't learn the song unfortunately, I'm just not that good at piano anymore. But I've moved on)

MatPats theory: throughout the game, there is a chance that you will meet some of W.D Gaster's followers (the characters in grey). There is one character in particular that stands out, and that's the one known as "goner kid" (looks like monster kid). He talks about that in another universe, he may not exist, and that thought terrifies him. When you bring an umbrella to him, he says something along the lines of "why do you have an umbrella? it's not raining". This quote relates to his other one as rain may not exist here, but "it's raining somewhere else", suggesting that its raining in another universe. Finally, remember he says that the thought of him being non-existent from one universe terrifies him, yet he only appears in a certain number of "universes" each time you play, so his fear has come true.

i dunno if its just me but the whole song sounds nostalgic and perfect for relaxing,thinking of the things you had,dreams you left behind and things you have...like being satisfied about how far you got but regretting it at the same time..

You are sitting alone in your apartment, 8 stories high. Through your open window, you can hear the soft tapping of rain on the soil of your potted plants resting on the rusty balcony. Looking down, you can see and hear the city going on with life, despite the falling rain. Calmly, you sip on the cocktail you made for yourself, watching life move on. In one of the neighboring apartments, someone is practicing their piano, making this night even more relaxing. You wish that you could look up and see the stars, but with the city light and the current rain, there is no way that could happen. You sigh and intake a breath of the cool night air and know that somewhere, someone is glad that it’s raining somewhere else.

I'm off at college, getting myself an education after escaping an abusive parent. life is good, but man I miss my city. the life, the people, the sounds of people living life even at 4 am. Its quiet in this town, It doesn't rain much on this coast and it feels like the world stops turning at 10 pm. Its a new experience, so i cant say i hate it, but man. I envy that its raining somewhere else.

I’m just thinking of a scene where sans is telling grillby a world where everything is perfect and raining somewhere else. Where the humans doesn’t kill and instead always be there friend no matter what. Sadly they do not live in a timeline like that. But it never hurts to dream.

Let's face it, I don't have a youtube account to say these simple things and end the commentary, without even analyzing it. So bear with me if you want to, and tell me if I got it at least some of it right.
Long comment ahead. Like, REALLY long comment.
Still here? Don't say you weren't warned...
But before that...
*SPOILER ALERT FOR BOTH UNDERTALE AND HOLLOW KNIGHT*
Heh, now you may continue.
Since Hollow Kight has a mistery vibe throughout the game, you don't know what to expect. So the relaxing music is kind of a calming tone, that helps through the difficult parts, without breaking the atmosphere the game provides. And the soundtrack is very clear and remarkable, So you know when you're entering a Boss battle, or the room you died, because of the specific soundtrack. It even plays with the danger setting the boss music inputs in our brains. Like in The Hunter's case, where it starts with Boss music and later on it fades away jokingly, since it does not act like a real boss.
Another thing of Hollow Knight is the details. The game sure has quite some details, but even the soundtrack is proposital. Just like the OST of the City of Tears, where you later find out that the relaxing singing you heard in the background all along, was actually Marissa singing in the Pleasure House.
But I didn't finish Hollow Knight yet, on the contrary of Undertale. And that makes a lot of difference, so maybe I'm saying lots of wrong things here. If I am, feel free to correct me, I would appreciate it a lot ^^
Now let's go for my boy Undertale!
Undertale has a variety of soundtracks for different situations, and they all help the atmosphere, just like Hollow Knight. But this time, they are all in different tones and genres, that present very clearly the situations and personalities of each character and scenario. We have calming ones, funny ones, and even dark ones. And most of them have a little familiarity between them, since the tracks have same or similar frequencies. Just like the "sans" track is in almost all the tracks that have to do with Sans, and other examples.
That's why, when you finish the game and know all of the story, routes, easter eggs and all it has to offer, you feel closer to the characters. And when that happens, the songs have more effect, since you feel more familiar with each one of the characters and stories behind them.
That's (I think) the reason the Undertale soundtracks really get to me. The familiarity, relaxing tone, and memories of the good and difficult times I had playing the game all come back, in a wave of nostalgia you didn't ask for, but it's welcoming anyways.
I'll stop rambling. In the end, it's just a simple soundtrack tutorial video on Synthesia, right?
Y'know, the first time I finished the game, I went to look on analysis of it on the internet, 'cause y'know, W.D. Gaster and other stuff. You know how it goes, fellow theorist.
Anyways, the first time I went to look on theories about True Lab, Sans, the other humans and Gaster, I was just... *flabbergasted.*
