  • It's always fun when a company sends something over and agrees to let me try to break it. Sadly, in this case, I was able to get into this Wincent portable gunsafe fairly easily, but overall, this is a fairly feature-rich portable gunsafe that can be a decent option for traveling or in the home provided you understand the security vulnerabilities.

    How secure is the pin that holds the hinge? LPL has shown us that is one of the vulnerability of safes like this.

    • @booliganshootingsports
      @booliganshootingsports  Před 2 lety

      It's actually a hidden pin design with the hinge recessed in the rear to prevent easy attack by driving the pin out. I was kind of impressed with that detail.

    • @booliganshootingsports

      It's one of the really smart features actually, with the HUGE caveat that the passcodes and RFID programming remains after the battery dies. If it doesn't remain in stable memory, you're shit outta luck, but I'm assuming that it remains in the memory and can open right up if you externally charge it. Any time a safe maker gets rid of the stupid rotary backup key makes me very very happy.

    Crazy idea---could you make the "Glock 18" from CS:GO. It's essentially a G26 grip (w/finger grooves) with a G17 slide. Not sure if this already exists yet, couldn't find anything like it on the odysee page.

    • @booliganshootingsports
      @booliganshootingsports  Před 2 lety +2

      It's 18g steel, so not crazy thick, not crazy thin. Any portable safe like this can be attacked with a prybar and get in if you're really going to brute force it. That being said, it does have an inner lip that prevents too deep of tool entry unless you hammer the hell out of it when shoving it in.

      I do like that this has multiple anchoring/tethering options, but if they made the small change I mention at the end, it would be SO MUCH harder to get into this thing and make it such a better option.

      For that purpose, it does have some good use which is why I’m not writing it off completely. But it won’t keep out a determined teenager for longer than a minute or two, tops.

    Fyi if anyone has one of these and your battery dies. Before you try breaking in. Try using the slowest charger you have to charge it, otherwise it won't charge lol

    i think your giving thief's too much credit. hammer smash! off goes the plastic. hammer smash! open goes the box. 10 seconds. 2 hits. there gone with w/e was in it.

    • @booliganshootingsports
      @booliganshootingsports  Před 2 lety +2

      I honestly think that approach would get you in much slower than prying off the plastic and attacking that latch with a small tool like I showed. There's no indication that bashing it with a hammer would open up the latch, and the design of the box itself doesn't lend itself well to super brute force entrance methods.

    • @zednott
      @zednott Před 2 lety

      @@booliganshootingsports use the claw side of the hammer. strike with it like a pick axe at the plastic to knock it off, then again at the latch part.

    • @booliganshootingsports
      @booliganshootingsports  Před 2 lety

      Sure, I understand HOW you’d attack it with a hammer. But I don’t see how that second hammer hit at the latch area would undo the latch. That’s what I’m saying. The thing you’re pressing with the paperclip is below the edge of the body, the claw end of the hammer likely wouldn’t hit it. So now you’re just hoping something breaks, which is certainly plausible but definitely not guaranteed.

    • @zednott
      @zednott Před 2 lety

      @@booliganshootingsports ya thats what I was thinking, a hard enough hit to break the latch.

    As long is it satisfies the law who gives a fuck. I could probly break into any portable safe given enough time

    • @booliganshootingsports
      @booliganshootingsports  Před 2 lety +1

      I mean, I do. The purpose of safe firearm storage isn't to satisfy a law: it's to safely store a weapon to keep it out of the hands of people who shouldn't have their hands on it. And while this does a better job than many other comparable options on the market, we should always be encouraging manufacturers to make a better product.
