In mythology, ahalya was turned into stone by rishi gautam when she didn't did any mistake. It was indra who disguised himself as her husband. But she has to bear her husband's fury. Now, it's time to correct it. Ahalya is not at fault, it is men who should be punished. That's what shown in this video.

Good explanation .. but small correction, In story of Ahalya, Ahalya knew that its not her husband and its Indra, but she had crush about Indra before marriage. So she kept calm , even thought she knew its Indra. Thats why Gautham mahrshi gave her curse to become stone....that doesn't mean that she became real stone. He told her to correct herself by leading a life like stone ... Which is meditation by leaving worldly desires....its kind of punishment instead of leaving her. Once rama came to Ahalaya ashram, she left her meditation and went to her husband Gauthama..and Indra also got curse for having bad eye towards women..which is having eyes all over his body which made him ugly looking.
......so many mythological stories has some hidden things.
I am women and also support for women and . But this story is mis understood always.

In this story, the lustful Indra is turned into a statue and Ahalya alongwith her husband punish every man who tries looses control over his desire.

In the Ramayana, when Indra comes to Ahalya dressed as his husband and makes love to her, Ahalya, even being innocent was punished by her husband, Rishi Gautam for infedility and was turned into stone.
And here, Radhika Apte in the role of Ahalya tried to take revenge from any man who tries to take advantage of her by turning them into stone. The main catch is, had if Inspector Indra not went back to take advantage of Ahalya, deceived as her husband, he would have been saved and not turned into stone. I see 2 story endings in this : it is upto the viewer's imagination :
    1. Ahalya already knows that the person who comes to her is not her husband and the other person, she uses him for her physical desires and then gets her turned into stone so that it remains a secret ( 7 statues are shown in the end ) , that is why in the end she says " you don't be naughty like others " , in this version Husband doesn't know anything.
    2. Ahalya doesn't know that the person who comes upstairs is not her husband , since his physical appearance has changed that is why she says " why did you lie that you are not good in Bed " , Ahalya's husband is aware of the fact that he can not satisfy her but he doesn't want her to leave him and that is why he keeps on sending different men to her wife , once she gets satisfied , he turns them into the stone so that the secret remains hidden.
Either way the story is awesome , In treta yug it was Ahalya (woman) who was punished for the lust of Lord Indra ( a Man) , here she is taking the revenge by turning the men into stone for their Lust

This short film has left my mind bursting with ideas and clinging thoughts while the movie remains a complex layer of metaphors and inner meaings. Perhaps this can be made a little bit clear if i dare compare the story with the original mythological one.
Dev Raj Indra , the King of Gods was once lusted by Sage Gautama's wife who was the daughter of Brahma. She was so beautifull that the gods themselves could'nt resist. Indra disguised as the sage Gautama visited her ashram when maharishi was out bathing. He offered himself to Ahalya and asked her for her love.Ahalya although sensed the celestial scent of Indra and saw through the apparation, still proceeded. Now this part of Ahalya's knowing is still in darkness as different text slightly differ in this context.
After the act, Indra on his way out was caught by the maharishi. The maharishi realising what has happened cursed Indra to have 1000 female vulvae on his body and turned Ahalya to a stone only to be freed by the tough of Lord Ram. Indra lost his title was discarded from heaven and went into hiding in the mortal world. Later these vulvae on his body was transformed into thousand eyes and henceforth was known as thousand eye god.
The story in mythology hightlights that how powerfull and righteous beings like the Devas can sometimes be intimidated and overpowered by the senses. So does the movie. Indra Sen's trapped in a doll may symbolises the trapping of a great soul in the human body. A body within the restriction of senses and hence sufferings. The take away of freedom of the police officer from livelyhood to a stagnant, immovable statue can be interpreted as the loss of Indra's kingship and delicacies of Heaven and hiding in the mortal world which is full of bondage and misery. The diminishing of consciousness, the overpowering guilt and the unbearable pain to realize that we are tied by our senses can be highlighted as the theme of both stories. Finally the moral being that we are the servant of our senses. We are controlled by it, moulded by it, constructed by it, acted and reacted by it. The senses sometimes may become stroger than the gods in ourselves and hence we give in to them, eluding rightousness. The only way to break free from this body of dolls and wax is to rise above our five senses.

Ahalya wasn't turned to stone. Gautama told her to do penance for her sin, unseen by anyone.
She accepts it voluntarily, and the 'she was turned into stone' is a bullcrap take, totally untrue.
Indra indeed bore the punishment as he was cursed to lose his manhood by Gautama, and he instantly turned to a eunuch.

This is a great movie, an example that can perhaps be even extended to serve as logic for rape cases. There are always three elements to commiting a mistake- Temptation (Ahalya), Instigation/Opportunity (The Husband) and your Character/Morality/Call it what you will (Indra Sen). At the risk of espousing philosophy, a mistake occurs due to your own lack in morality that leads you to succumb to temptation. So dont blame the temptation or even the opportunity, blame yourself.

In this example both the girl and that old man purposely tries their best to seduce the inspector and especially at the scene where that woman pulls his hand on the bed, and puts finger on his lips knowing the man in question is the victim, so this is as you say it yourself a planned instigation of the crime. Even though instigation of a crime in itself is a crime where the perpetrator and the instigator are punished as equals, but lets say its not true, according to the law, if a crime like this was instigated by the victim herself, then it was done with her consent (but that's only if the crime actually happened). Where, in this case, she was never actually raped by any of her victims but if this is realized in real life supposing every magic has a trick to it, and the men in the movie are supposed to be in statue forever meaning the punishment for her victims is death. So the Mr. sadhu and that woman will be the only ones who will actually be charged for the murder of six men and the motive would be some sort of feminist agenda(if u do it, u will be punished, that is). So don't think if this kind of incident somehow happened in real life then you will be justified by the court, might be justified by hardcore men haters on the news or the public but not the court. Set that aside, it was a great movie.

Fantastic! Radhika looking so sensuous. My interpretation of this short film is that it tries to convey that the way the inspector and others got trapped in the dolls due to desire and karma similarly that's how we get trapped in bodies and forms due to desire and karma.

Thanks for giving justice to ahalya...she was not responsible for anything but her husband gave her punishment... But here it is very clearly mentioned that all time a girl is not responsible for being disrespected or being raped .... There is also a boy always present....
...... IN MY POINT OF VIEW

Such mythological stories exist in our culture and we are unaware of 90% of them . Such great creation by Sujoy Ghosh tells us what champion he is and his vast knowledge that makes him think something we would not even think of !
