    This has been the funniest take on this, and it's so true. I played a game as Leinster, and as soon as I started it was like Munster, Connaught, Ulster, Powys, Gwynedd, and Scotland wanted me to start and lead wars against England! Soon as I started declining then suddenly Gwynedd starts a defensive pact against me with Powys, Munster, AND ENGLAND!

    Thanks for the video, very helpful! One thing I try to do when I play as a smaller Nation is to accept the first request to support a war from a allied nation or even better (to avoid denounces from other nations); Taking advantage of an ongoing siege and plunder the hell out of the unprotected surrounding land because the soliders are usually in the city defending it against the invader. This can give lots of resources. I recently did this as Prussia when Sweden invaded Semgallen and so I suddenly had 2000 gold at my desposal!

    I tried an Irish unification because that’s what I did in the original game. I was frustrated at first for the new mechanic of the subject opinions (clergy, nobles etc) but eventually I got my head around it. I was building up a good economy, had a good standing army compared to my neighbors, and was ready to go and conquer my first Irish state….
    Then Ulster declared war out of nowhere. I think “no problem, their army sucks”, only for their numbers to double out of nowhere once the first battle actually started, bodying my only army and ruining the entire save as I was now stuck in an unwinnable war they’d just use to completely wipe me out.
    I quit after that.

    • @perafilozof
      @perafilozof  Před 8 měsíci +1

    @Aurinkohirvi Před rokem +2

    I took it very badly, when I heard that in this game your specialized governors/lords/whatever that you have only a handful, turn their province into a superprovince, which becomes way more powerful than other provinces. That sounded very immersion breaking. What's your experience with that?

    • @perafilozof
      @perafilozof  Před rokem +1

      That is a good point to raise. I found it most problematic because of the scale of the game clashes with this limited number of lords. Like, you have a handful of lords, but you can capture hundreds of provinces. In one way, this prevents you from being a landslide super power as your kingdom grows, and other kingdoms still have a chance to fight against you. On the other it requires you to constantly move your governors to provinces where they can help you the most. But again, if you had dozens or hundreds of governors the game would be come heavy in micromanagement which would slow down its idea of fast gameplay.
      In the end I feel like while it's not the best choice, it the one that fits the vision of how the game is to be played the best.

    • @CameronAB122
      @CameronAB122 Před rokem +1

    England is really good, because you can expand in over the islands, and then slowly into rest of the Europe, plus they get Feudal Knights and Longbow Man, which are both really powerful. France also gets access to Feudal Knights, but yeah...
    Castille also gets access to more OP advanced units, but whether you try to expand, North or South, you always have to watch attack from both directions.
    Scandinavian kingdoms aren't that great either, while you're technically on the edge of the map both South and East is too close for comfort.
    Either way... anyone but Pagans are the way to go lol. I have only tried one of them, so I don't know if others had different nerfs, but the one I've picked had 10% nerf on gold income and maybe something else less important too (maybe like... 25% nerf on books or something) . Which extended campaign for 6 more hours than previous two I've played (which were with Croatia and Kiyv).
    Additionally... Pagans don't have access to University or anything of that kind, so you have to win it from someone to get access to those goods, but you still can't produces things like Fine Art (even if you win Cathedrals and/or Great Mosques), and thanks to not being to do certain upgrades, you'll never have access to certain goods, and not be able to get Kingdom Advantages. You can try to trade for Fine Art, but good luck getting it. lol
    2nd You shouldn't do trade agreements with neighbors, you're more likely to get in war with them, and lose your merchant, income and/or at least progress. But yeah... first thing to do, form enough Trade Agreements to get Merchant Disposition to 10, Hire Knights (Merchants) so you can appoint them to govern provinces, to increase your income.

    • @perafilozof
      @perafilozof  Před rokem

      Hi nikolamatasin welcome to my channel and thank you kindly for sharing your thoughts on this with us. Good examples and explanations of the starting nations.
      To some extent, yes, making trade agreements with neighbors, most of which you will go to war with is a problem, but you can't always be at war with everyone so some trade will continue as you look for new partners.

    • @nikolamatasin3877
      @nikolamatasin3877 Před rokem

      @perafilozof it's more that when you retreat your merchant (if you're the one announcing war), you lose progress with trade expansions too, so you lose income right at the start of the war. Or have lower income for some time before your trading goes up with new partner.
      So back in KoH1 and here also I like to start with trading partners so far away, I'll have no contact with them till at least mid game, where slight income loss isn't an issue anymore lol
      Ideally it would be someone that has access to goods you won't have for a long time, but I never plan that far ahead lol

    • @perafilozof
      @perafilozof  Před rokem

      That is true, and it is one of those choices moments that also depend on the AI itself. You might even find yourself losing most of your trade because the AI simply decided to go to war with your or your allies.
