Goodbye GoPro, Hello EMAX O3 CineHawk

- EMAX has a brand new Cinewhoop style drone that has the DJI O3 Air Unit in it. The drone is called the CineHawk and it's the latest digital FPV drone from EMAX. This means that it can capture 4K stabilized footage without a gimbal and without the need to strap another action camera on top of the quad. But how does the video look? In this video, we put the EMAX CineHawk through it's paces both indoors and outdoors. We compare the footage to the DJI Avata and we see how well the EMAX CineHawk works when flying through a high end house shooting FPV footage for realtors. We also crash it a few times and see how rugged it can be.

Oh great!! Another quad on the bucket list.stop it Kelly!!
Just stop it
Lol Paulie! I don't think this is a "Drone Bum" style quad...I could be wrong though, but after experiencing that crash into the 4 million dollar house, I am less trusting of the Cinehawk.
Great video, Kelly. I hope you are bring it to the SFDM. I'm so glad you are coming to the SFDM.
We are looking forward to it!
Kelly makes his own sound effects lol Good review Bud.
I hope you bring it to SFDM i'd like to see it maybe fly it.
If i Crash it i'll buy it lol

Yes, very unsettling!
Nice review
Thanks, Brett 👊
I want the same drone for HDzero system :D
..without the crashes!
Fun and informative Review!
I love the DJI o3. No more carrying extra weight + what you see is what you get. No more guess work.😊
Pretty sure the freak out was due to too much interference.
Thanks for the comment. We found out what happened that caused the crash. There was a loose nut on the flight controller stack. Emax said they had it happen during their testing as well, and have fixed that issue on the production units.
Looks like you had a lot of fun making this. Thanks for putting in the effort. I'm going to stick with my Avata for the time being.
Great review! Great video! Great spot too. I always see that building and never thought about flying there. As always.. great work guys!
Thanks, Scot! Same with Kelly. He said he's passed by it many times, but hadn't flown there until we shot this video.
Yeah Scot! We need to go hit that spot together soon. It was pretty fun!
Awesome. Gee imagine if Go-Pro had made a camera system that compact to begin with. I don't think losing FPV sales will affect them much but they may lose market share in other ways eventually. Imagine something like this with on board recording and stuck on or in a caving helmet. Camera on front, expensive recorder in helmet, and battery located in protective case elsewhere (side?) Caving with a Go Pro bites especially in tight caves because you constantly knock it against the ceiling. Or on rifles to catch action shots. Airsoft. Model rocket launches. Etc.
True that!
Talk to DJI support, they will want the flight record and will check what caused the shake and crash.
You might even get the parts sent to you.
Does the O3 Air unit save some kind of flight logs automatically? I was wondering about that. I looked back at the goggle footage (I was flying when that happened), and saw no on screen warning... I was hoping for some clue as to what happened.
@@SunriseWaterMedia not sure about the O3. I have regular drones not FPV. I'm only guessing here, but if you are logged in you might be able to sync the flight data to the app? Is there any way to log in? Maybe you can sync it through a computer?
@@matanlevanon As far as I know, I don't think that's possible, but I very well could be wrong. I'll plug in my phone and see if I can find flight data like regular camera drones.
On the DJI Avata, I believe I have seen fight logs, but this is a bit different. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll see how it goes. 👍
We tried plugging in a phone, just like we do with the DJI Avata, but there was no flight data on the O3 Air Unit. 😕
Great work, guys!!!
💪🏼👊🏻👍🏼
Thanks, Mathias. I'm glad my crash into the 4 million dollar home didn't damage the house! 😳

Awesome video dude! Botgrinder made a video about this ciniwhoop...says it was super shaky..., hates dji, Yada yada....not shaky cause of hands actual quad was shaking....but ur footage looks fine!!!

Hey Dean (I'm assuming that's your first name), I watched Bot's video as well... We had our issues with this quad, like that freak accident crashing into the 4 million dollar house, so we know that each quad could have it's own set of quirks, but it was was pretty smooth overall. See this #short where I flew it inside Kelly's office, going through gaps. Smooth as can be!
czcams.com/users/shortsNRDpoatwDvE
@Sunrise Water Media your sooooo smooth with the ciniwhoop...and the clarity of video in his office...felt like I was there for the ride along lol! I'm making progress with my cinilog....having trouble keeping it level just before entering a gap... I tend to hit the throttle thus...= crash low confidence meter
@@dizzydeanfpv45 👊 You're good, Dean! I know the "low confidence meter" feeling 🤣 I love the CineLog 35 Performance. The fact that it can freestyle AND it's a cinewhoop is a huge plus! Maintaining a steady forward speed really helps me go through gaps and stay at the right altitude.
Not to bombard you with links, but at 8m30s in this video is my flight montage with the CineLog35 Performance... I can't help sharing after you mentioned that you fly it as well. czcams.com/video/_jPKcGROwYU/video.html
@@SunriseWaterMedia I'm going to watch it now
@@SunriseWaterMedia wow left comment on video.....great great video and were cinilog brothers!!!!!!!!
Great video Kelly & Kris. I wish I had someone to fly with as I'd give fpv a try but don't want to be in goggles without a spotter. Wish I'd had this technology when I was fly RC planes. #FreakOutMoment, #ZiptieForthewin, #KellysCustomSounds, #DontFlyAlone
Wow, Gerry! You found all the hashtags! I'll have to hide them better in the video next time. 😉👊
@@SunriseWaterMedia A couple weren't easy to spot. LOL
Can you install a crossfire rx on this?
Hey Charlie. They sell one with an ELRS receiver, so I'm sure crossfire is possible.
Flying with the controller 2 is NOT my favorite thing. Ha ha. When I crashed into that 4 million dollar house -- or rather when the drone malfunctioned, as clearly shown in the video (thank goodness Kelly filmed it), I could've disarmed faster with a regular controller with switches I'm used to.
Man that is a cool setup and I am getting the itch to try FPV but still haven't quite got there. Maybe at the South Florida Drone Meetup April 1st 2023 in Jensen Beach, FL you will have that drone there @Kelly or @Kris? I would love to see it and possibly try (TRY is the key word here) to fly it? Thanks for both of you and special call-out to @Kai for helping with the fix. #FreakOutMoment #ZiptieForthewin #KellysCustomSounds #DontFlyAlone
Thanks, Brad #👀
I'm not sure which drones we will bring -- probably the Avata, which might be a safer option for flying near the water, since it can act more like a camera drone.
The crash we experienced with this Cinehawk makes me nervous about flying around water with it. 😄
Hey Brad. Honestly, if you want to get into FPV, I'd get the Avata. It's really a great way to transition from camera drone to FPV without too much hassle. See you in Florida in a couple of weeks!
Hi
Good video. Thanks! I just finished my Cinehawk and got it airborne today. I am a bit surprised at the low flight time. Would a 6S help that at all?
No. 6s batter will most likely damage or fry something. If you want to try a larger battery, you could increase the mAh rating, as long as you are still using a 4s battery.
that freak out crash .damn.. could have happened on the job. Avata is pro gear, i trust it indoor flying and the altitude hold is so nice,
Mate that’s not an Emax issue, that doesn’t just happen and as you saw it was being repeatedly bounce tested off different objects- I’ve had my dji Av do the same thing after a bramble branch touched a prop 👍 I mean you’d have to be drunk to not check your kit before a job 😅👍
@bugsy742 - The flights we did in the house with the Cinehawk were actually the first flights we did with it - before all the bashing. I found out from EMAX that is was a known issue that happened sometimes in their pre-release models. I've been assured that the issue has been fixed and won't happen on their mass produced Cinehawks.
@@readysetdrone fantastic ✊🤝😎
No one has made a video on this in 3 weeks. Had no one received their preorders?
I'm not sure. Perhaps they are testing it out for a bit.
Price?

Operator error maybe

@@BobCaseyAerial You guys are the best friends ever. 👀😜
Every other review I've seen of this shows footage from the goggles and it seems super unstable before stabilization. It's much better with gyroflow but in my opinion if you care about flying a stable drone, this is not it.
We showed a bit of goggle footage at 10:01 and also footage before stabilizing at 2:24. Granted, it's a cinewhoop and when we were flying it as if it's a freestyle quad, it didn't do great, but when indoors, going at a steady pace, it's quite smooth (not the smoothest ever, though).... In this short clip, although stabilized with RockSteady, I felt confident flying through those gaps at speed.

I bought one of these after watching a few CZcams videos. Never trust free stuff reviews. This thing is horrible.
You guys really need to buy products and see what kind of trash you get from their factories. That will make you stop saying things like, "The company we all know and love..."
I've purchase one EMAX product. It was so poorly built that I had to disassemble and repair it before I flew it.
EMAX responded to my first email with a condescending tone that pointed me at Bardwell videos that had nothing to do with the topic. Their response clearly showed that they ignored the details that I included in my initial email. I had pointed out some things I tried to rectify my problem. I responded with the correct videos and time stamps for what they thought they were trying to tell me. I added a page and link to Oscar Liang's blog on the same topic.
That got them to bring their tone in line and pay attention to what I was saying.
Regardless, after several emails, they failed to help. I figured out the issue on my own through a long frustrating trial and error.
I'm new to the FPV community. If EMAX is a "lovable" company, then I'm going to be hated.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience with the EMAX Cinehawk. We did have an issue with it that we we shared in the video, but overall we were pretty happy with the flight experience, the footage etc. Generally I have found EMAX to be a company that does a good job of supporting it's customers and am disappointed to hear about your experience. Hopefully after you got it sorted, it flies well and does what you wanted it to do.
Best of luck and thanks for sharing your experience with the community.
#ziptieforthewin
Thanks, Mike! I added your name to the wheel of names for our next live stream. 😎👊
Kelly, another great review, thx for posting. I just curious how different does it fly from the Avata? #Don’t Fly Alone, #Ziptie for the win
it's different than Avata in that it does not have GPS. So for indoor flying in Angle mode, it's actually a bit easier to fly than the Avata. Otherwise it flies pretty similar to Avata, but less flight time!
Hmmm...definitely a nice, less expensive choice to the Avata. Calling out Emax on some of it's little production flaws may keep the pre-orders down, but not for long. I see this being some great
technological competition for all drone manufactures. 12:48...did you scare off all the homeless with that thing?
😂 we were surprised to find no one in that abandoned building!

Looks like a great little pusher quad, nice review and crash video !
Is it Remote ID ready?
It does not include a module for remote ID. If we use a battery which takes the weight to over 250 grams, we will have to provide our own module, just like any other traditional FPV quad that uses betaflight, etc.
I don’t fly FPV but that looks cool, nice stable footage, regards
No, you still NEED an action camera for paid work. I’d never take someone’s money ans give them a DVR video..
They're getting closer, but yeah, as I said, 90% of people will be ok without an action camera.
