1994 was arguably one of the best years in cinema history. The Shawshank Redemption was one of the best movies to be released that year and was nominated for best picture at the Oscars with Morgan Freeman receiving nomination for Best Actor, but no movie couldnt beat out Forrest Gump that year. There were many other great releases that year such as The Mask, Pulp Fiction, Dumb and Dumber, True Lies, Ace Ventura, The Crow, Lion KIng, Speed, Natural Born Killers and Interview with a Vampire to name some. But definitely many will be talking about this movie for another 30 years. Glad you enjoyed it!
This movie is ranked #1 of all time in the IMDB database. Now you know why!
for all the right reasons
And a box-office failure, too! Still gets to me...
Time proves ART not financial equity.
I've seen so many react to this classic. But you, you made me choke up like the first time i saw it. Your empathy just spilled through the screen ☺️👍🏽
I am officially a fan of yours now 😄🙏🏽
Please make more reactions 🙏🏽🤓
Aww thank you I’m glad!!🙏🏼❤️
Ive seen a lot of reactions but I've never seen anyone clean their nostrils before, so bravo on that move. Overall that was a pretty good reaction, I appreciate that you didn't talk the entire movie, you had a really good blend of talking vs watching/reacting. Your empathy for ol' Brooks was beautiful. I gave this reaction a thumbs-up.
Lol yea if I gotta blow my nose that’s what I gotta do🤣🤷🏼♀️but thank you so much I’m glad you enjoyed my reaction🙏🏼
Shawshank actually tanked at the box office, due to timing (sandwiched between Pulp Fiction and Forrest Gump) and the title, which confused people…but it slowly gained a following via word of mouth and is now considered one of the greatest films ever made.
Andy was playing Chess all along, not Checkers...He was playing the long game.
Definitely a few of teary-eyed moments during Shawshank, that's for sure. I still think the ending (where Andy & Red embrace) combined with that specific musical score is EASILY one of the best scenes in movie history. VERY emotional. Gets me every time...and I've seen this movie dozens of times lol.
This definitely was a masterpiece 🏆 ❤ 🎥 Stephen King had another TOP SHELF film, that also wasn't a horror movie.... "The Green Mile", staring Tom Hanks
Tim Robbins (Andy) starred in a psychological thriller that is absolutely and utterly OUTSTANDING... "Jacob's Ladder"
The forth film, also by Stephen King that joins this list of MUST SEE. .. is "Misery" staring Kathy Bates and James Caan.
I’ve seen misery actually👌🏻& I have a reaction to greenmile on my channel already😁
@@journeymariereacts I watched your "Green Mile" reaction video earlier this morning.... Outstanding 👍 📹
I will need to find your "Misery" one... Please react to "Jacob's Ladder" .. Truly a TOP SHELF production. 🏆 🎥
"I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy living, or get busy dying."
Fun Fact: Raquel Welch, whose One Million Years B.C. (1966) poster plays a significant role in the film, is a big fan of this movie.
Musical Enthusiast Fact: The opera song that Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) plays over the loud speakers is "Canzonetta sull'aria" from "The Marriage of Figaro" by Mozart. It was Tim Robbins' idea for Andy to turn up the volume of the record player in the scene.
Bird Timing Fact: When Andy goes to the library to begin work as Brooks' assistant and Brooks' crow, Jake, is squawking, Tim Robbins had to time his line so that the crow wouldn't squawk over him, since the bird could not be trained to squawk on cue. Robbins was able to time his line perfectly by learning the bird's squawking patterns, for which writer/director Frank Darabont praised him.
Very interesting facts, thank you!!!
You're welcome. 😁
Go in Peace and Walk with God. 😎 👍
Raquel Welch was a big fan. R.I.P. to her 🙏🏽🕊💔
Another great reaction. This movie is so powerful. Stirs something in me every time.
Loved your reaction!! You caught on quick, most reactors aren't that keen to the plot. Keep it up, lady.
Thank you! Will do!
Many reactor don't pay attention as closely as JM, girl was fully invested from the start.
I remember when I first watched this at the movies. I knew this would be one of the best movies of all time. This movie moves the emotionless people as well
This is definitely one of the best movies I’ve ever watched! One of the most heartbreaking as well🥹
@@journeymariereacts if you haven’t reacted to, “The Green Mile” it’s a must. This movie was made by the same people from Shawshank Redemption. It’s an incredible movie. Warning ⚠️ it’s very emotional like Shawshank. But you will enjoy nonetheless
@@jiujitsujackson9831 two of the best movies ever
@@Kenny-ep2nf Agree..... Not Long ago I found in the $5 Bin at Walmart, a DVD that had both Shawshank and Green Mile as a Set.....
@@CoastalNomad exactly, there’s no doubt that the developers outdid themselves making those two masterpieces
Loved your reaction Journey Marie 🥰😍 to this classic movie. Fun fact the $370,000 that Andy took from the evil warden in today’s money would be a little over 3.4 million dollars that’s a lot of “severance pay” This film was based on a story written by Stephen King. Another movie based on one of his books that you should react to is (1995) Dolores Claiborne starring Kathy Bates. You are going to love it. 👌🏽
Langoliers, too.
“They can’t touch…oooooh” hilarious 😂
Frank Darabont is the "King Whisperer." Only filmmaker who has perfectly adapted three Stephen King novels.
New subscriber. Just wanted to say you are obviously intelligent, beautiful, thoughtful and have a great balance of commentary vs viewing. And I also appreciate your raw emotions. You come across as a genuine person. Wish you success. ✌🏾
Thank you so much! That means a lot🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks for your profound reaction. That's what this movie does to you. A couple of fun facts, they originally offered the role of Andy to Tom Hanks. He turned it down to do Forrest Gump and won the Oscar. I think that decision worked out well for both actors. And when you see Morgan Freeman's (Red's) mugshot, that's actually a photo of his son. Also if you notice that every time Red goes in front of the parole board, they are younger and more polite each time.
Thanks for those facts!! & for the kind words, I’m glad you enjoyed😁🙏🏼
@@journeymariereacts you're welcome. I recently discovered your channel and I am so glad that I did. Your emotional responses to Shawshank and Green Mile touched me deeply. I felt them right along with you, even though I've seen each movie numerous times. I'm getting caught on your reactions! Can't wait for the next one 🙂
Great reaction Journey Marie, I love when people get really invested in truly great movies and give them the attention they deserve. One point: Andy is the main character, but it is Red's Redemption. Andy didn't commit a crime so there was nothing to redeem. Red did commit a horrible crime by sabotaging the brakes on his wife car to collect a large life insurance policy she had come into. Ended up killing his wife and the neighbor and the neighbor's child due to brakes failing. Red found this redemption after Andy escaped prison, Red finally accepted responsibility for his actions, voiced his sincere regret/remorse to the crime he committed, said let's cut the bullshit to the parole board and gained his freedom/redemption.
I would have to say the best reaction I have ever seen . Very nice job and God bless you.
Wow thank you!!😭🙏🏼
Marie, this was my first time watching you react to a movie. You have a heart of gold. I love your commentary. One of my all time favorite movies.
Thank you so much🥲🙏🏼
10:24 -- aww, girl, I wanted to give you a hug.
Goodness. Great channel. Loved this review. Your reaction to Brooks' death was the same one I had the first time I saw the movie.
Heavy movies do invoke. I love seeing how passionate you get, especially when compassion is involved. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it! & thank you🙏🏼
Love ❤ this reaction. 1 of the best reactions I've watched 👍🏿

This is now two movies I have watched you watch and I have liked and subscribed because you are so empathetic. Thank you.
Thanks for subbing & for the kind words🥹🙏🏼
Great reaction. My favorite movie of all time. Fun fact, in the book, jake the bird was found outside of brooks cell window, dead, because it too was unable to cope with freedom
Thank you! & oh wow that’s sad😢
Great reaction. You’ve earned a new subscriber all the way from South Africa 👋
Thank you!!
Great reaction, 'Hope is a good thing may be the best of things'
Yep an all time classic. Nice job Marie
Now I’m 61, I’m educated and have two children and two grandchildren. Life is no ferry tale world.
Fun fact: The head guard is played by Clancy Brown, also known as the voice of Mr. Crabs on Sponge Bob
This was a truly amazing reaction. Seemed sincere entirely. I'm so grateful you would upload your experience with this classic. Earned a sub. I'm going to backup and watch your other reactions and I'll be around for your future ones too. Amazing young lady you are. Thanks!
Wow that absolutely means the world, thank you!! & I’m glad you enjoyed🙏🏼
"I hope Brooks is ok"... Knowing what what about to come this was heart breaking (again). This movie breaks me every single time.
Did you hear the harmonica in the soundtrack the moment Red finds the tree? 🥹
I don’t know if I picked up on it but that’s beautiful😭
Love your channel…..just seems like you’re being yourself……authentic. Keep it up miss!
Thank you! Will do!
this film is not rated as one of the best films of all time for nothing. just great ❤️
Top reaction. 👍👍👍
😢One inalienable truth: They don’t give you parole until you dgaf.
Good reaction to Shawshank redemption !
And
This is Brooks 😢
I'm OK.
Wait a minute?
No, I'm not 😢

Fun fact Captain Hadley is the guy who voiced Mr Krabs on SpongeBob. His name is Clancy Brown
Great reaction looking forward to what you do next.
More to come! Thanks🙏🏼
1:41 "What if that's just how he _is?"_
A fair question. It's also possible that recent events have left him emotionally burned _out._
Morgan Freeman is the GOAT. In the 70s, he was on this children’s reading show called the electric company. That was my first introduction to Morgan Freeman. When he got into the movies, I was thinking this is the guy from the electric company. He can’t act. Of course I was wrong.
By the way, Morgan Freeman can sing. He would sing occasionally on the electric company.
New subscriber. My favorite movie ever. And you are my new favorite reactor!

The warden isn't "a man of God", he uses that facade to hide in plain sight and conceal his true nature.

That’s next!! Glad you enjoyed🙏🏼
6:31 "hopefully he didn't kill her, but..." 😂
I love your reactions ;)
And I just wanted to say about the matrix franchise : before reacting to matrix 2 reloaded, you really MUST react to the animatrix (or watch on your own if you really can't).
These are 9 shorts stories on the matrix universe who helps to understand it and to elarge the universe and the lore. Actually there are only 4 of the 9 that really matters to better understand the matrix sequels :
-The second Renaissance : It's a matrix prequel which tells what happened between humans and machines and why the matrix was created
-A kid's story : Origin story of a new character in matrix 2 & 3
-Last flight of the Osiris : It's an introduction to matrix reloaded, litterally a couple of hours before.
Btw, and unfortunetly, Tank (the operator) won't be on matrix 2 & 3 because the actor had schedules issues. And you have to be aware that for matrix 2 & 3 : They dreamt big and had a lot of ambition. They propel the matrix franchise to be a franchise like star wars & lord of the rings, to tell an epic tale. Actually, it was one of the three biggest trilogy of the early 2000's with lord of the rings and the star wars prequels.
Besides, I would say that matrix reloaded is my favorite in the saga (expect as a stand-alone movie, then the first one wins ^^).
But be aware that the style of each films are different, so don't expect to be a redoing of the first one (if that makes sense).
To be clear :
-The first one was kind of a dark sci-fy thriller/detective more than an action film
-The second one is a pure non-stop action film thrill (and a little bit a superhero movie)
-And the third one is a war film
Btw, matrix 2 (reloaded) and matrix 3 (revolutions) are actually a 4 hours film cut in two parts (they were shot back to back) and this is why they were both released the same year with only a 6 months gap. A little bit like the lord of the rings wich were shot back to back as well.
Can't wait to see your reactions to the matrix sequels (and perhaps animatrix) :)
Also, I would love that you do the "machete order" for your next star wars reactions please ^^ (the journey will be even more worth it like this).
To be clear, there is the order :
-episode 4
-episode 5
-then you to episode 1,2,3 like kind of a flashback
-rogue one
-and only then you'll finish the franchise with the epic conclusion of episode 6 (which was meant to be the last episode).
So sorry for my bad english ;)
Watching her get so attached to Brooks was hard lol
Number 1 movie ever. Fantastic reaction.
When Red(Morgan Freeman) said maybe its because im Irish it was an inside joke because the role of Red was supposed to be a white man but Morgan auditioned anyway and was so good they changed the movie for his character
i've said it before, and I'll say it again, keep all your full length reactions cause you're gonna wanna start a Patreon.
I haven’t done that so far but I may start soon if my channel keeps growing the way it is👌🏻
This movie is amazing love the video marie stay motivated Dream big 1 mill on the way
24:09 "he looks a little broken." 😆
Your reaction to this movie was beautiful, heartfelt and genuine because it really is a very good movie for those that have been wrongfully accused and caught up in the system. Seems like people have been conditioned not to feel for people..cold world we live in. Keep the movie reactions coming.
Thank you for kind words🙏🏼& I completely agree, it’s sad
The guy that played the guard Hadley (the one that was going to throw Andy off the roof etc.) is also the voice of Mr. Krabbs from Spongebob.
Oh wowww
I love you...Your responses are a glimpse into your character...and so I love you!
Wow, thank you!
The "We're reel'n 'em in" guy in the crowd is Morgan Freeman's son, Alfonso Freeman. Alfonso also provides Red's booking photo seen at his parole hearings.
A close look at the photo shows Red's induction date at Shawshank Prison as June 1, 1927.
The Count of Monte Cristo would be a great movie the react to.
10:28 Brooks 😢
your reaction to this scene was absolutely beautiful.
Such a great film!
4:23 😆 "i don't wanna see that."
15:03 "they can't touch."
jinx
Yes. To Brooks, Shawshank was home, not a prison.
5:23 "Maybe it's because I'm Irish."
5:31 "I can't tell if that- That was a joke, right?"
Well, there's a bit of _backstory_ to that point. See, in the book, Red really _was_ Irish. I mean _glaringly_ Irish. Ghost-white pale with a shock of red hair.
But Morgan Freeman is a _masterful_ actor. It would not surprise me to learn that he has not had a _single_ Irish ancestor in the last _300_ generations, but somehow, when he says, "I'm Irish," absolutely _no_ part of me feels compelled to disagree.
Enjoyed your reaction. Looking forward to the next one :D
Thank you!! 😁

he was actually 56 years old during filming.
The funny thing is, I wished Warden suffered too. I’m not sure if I ever craved this hard to see someone get paybacks. 😂 I guess it’s just a testament to how despicable he is.
great reaction.... this is definitely one of the best movies ever maid. if you haven't seen The Sixth Sense you should check that out as well... btw... you are also Seriously Cute!... look forward to your next video... ☺☺

" The first time that Morgan Freeman saw himself crying in the mirror, he became old and he remained that way his whole life. From then on, every time that Morgan Freeman cried, it rained........in heaven."
You are correct.
He's been old your whole life. 😝
Quote is from this
czcams.com/video/Ch5MEJk5ZCQ/video.html
It always makes me smile.
1:16 "Right. You could look at it _that_ way. Like, for him, this is not good, because now, he can't even _prove_ his _innocence."_
But innocence is not what _needs_ to be proven. In a _proper_ justice system, innocence is _presumed._ No one is _born_ guilty of anything. If you want to prove that someone did something illegal, _you_ are the one tasked with evidence that supports the conclusion.
I mean, what kind of thing would constitute evidence of innocence? The fingerprints _not_ on the weapon?
9:52 "Oh. He wants to _stay."_
What he wants is to _matter._ He wants to live in a world he _understands_ and to _matter._ There _is_ no such world, outside.
In 1905, when Brooks was first sentenced, he was 22. When he was released, 50 years later, in 1955, he was _72._ Consider how the outside world _changed_ while he was locked up.
By 1905, Brooks had seen _one single car_ in his _entire life._ Not even enough to cause a _traffic_ jam. When he was released, in 1955, _everyone_ had them, and they were _fundamentally different_ from the one he had seen. As he explained in the monologue, the world had gone and gotten itself in one big _hurry._
When he was locked up, all the after-dark lights were _gas_ powered, including the ones in the _prison._ When he was released, they had all upgraded to _electric._
He was taken from a world with no radio or TV signals. While he was locked up, the first radio and TV transmissions had taken place, and when he was released, _everyone_ had a radio and a TV in their _home._
While he was locked up, both world wars and the Great Depression happened.
Now he _might've_ been able to adapt if he'd still had his _youth,_ but he's in his _70's,_ now. In _modern_ times, we grant people access to social security benefits when they turn 65, presuming that their active, working years are _behind_ them. Expecting them to work after that is _inhumane._
Brooks has not had the chance to build up any retirement savings. The system cheated him _out_ of them. So it seems to me, a _humane_ system would set him up with a comfortable pension and move him into a good _retirement_ home.
But no. They cheated him.
10:46 I think it's safe to say this was his first time riding in something _motorized._
11:13 What's wrong with this picture? I mean begging groceries is a job for people in their _late teens_ or _twenties._ Maybe, if there are unforeseen complications, their thirties. There's _no_ justice, though, asking a man in his _seventies_ to do this for a living.
