It's always a pleasure to see a younger person appreciating a classic old film. You did a great job with your commentary, figuring things out quickly and sometimes ahead of time. Very sharp. You're a delight. Thank you for this video.
Thank you kindly!
According to the lore, the cat in the Don's lap and Luca Brazi rehearsing his lines were both organic, unplanned occurances. The cat just showed up on set. And the Luca actor was rehearsing without knowing he was being filmed. Then, during an actual take, he blew his lines but stayed in character...
Smart girl..
I like how easy you read the movie - for some reason it confuses a lot of reactors, idunno - they don't catch everything said, or they misinterpret dialog - it's refreshing to see someone just following the story with ease - you didn't even suspect poor Enzo of being some surprise-assassin, of course not - it's Enzo the baker! Enzo came through!
Iâm glad you enjoyed!!
Youâll have to do part two, itâs one of the few sequels thatâs as good if not better than the original
The problem with Part II is the flashing back and forth from past to "present". Part I, of course, was spectacular, so that was done first. But the flashbacks to Vito's origins should properly have been part of Part I. For that reason Part II is jarring, and somewhat hard to follow -- the storytelling structure is primitive, crude. And for that reason it is inferior to Part I.
@@jnagarya519 That's always been my problem with it, too. It's still one of the best movies of all time, but I agree I always found those jumps jarring and that they could have been handled better. HOWEVER, I do think that Vito's rise to power belonged in the second movie, not the first. It was important to juxtapose Vito's rise to power as a respectful and respectable Don who, though he used violence, nurtured the community around him, with Michael, who clung to power by instilling fear and ruling with an iron fist.
@@Crazy_Diamond_75 Vito and Michael were only different in their methods; BOTH cultivated power by inducing others to OWE them. Vito was a seducer with threat behind it; Michael was honest with his threats.
My first problem with Part II is that Vito was dead, and Michael's rise was begun in "The Godfather" (which wasn't a "Part I"). So Vito's history prior to "The Godfather" was rendered irrelevant because he was dead, and the focus of Part II was Michael's rise and fall.
So the back-and-forth between irrelevant past and relevant present was all the more jarring.
To me, the key scene is outside the hospital. When Michael realizes that his hands are perfectly steady, his transformation from college boy to gangster has gone past the point of no return.
"Leave the gun. Take the cannoli."
Good call. đ
Fun Fact: Lenny Montana (Luca Brasi) was so nervous about working with Marlon Brando that in the first take of their scene together, he flubbed some lines. Director Francis Ford Coppola liked the genuine nervousness and used it in the final cut. The scenes of Luca practicing his speech were added later.
Dark Filmmaking Fact: Cinematographer Gordon Willis earned himself the nickname "The Prince Of Darkness," since his sets were so underlit. Paramount Pictures executives initially thought that the footage was too dark, until persuaded otherwise by Willis and Francis Ford Coppola that it was to emphasize the shadiness of the Corleone family's dealings.
Historical Fact: Most of the cars in the movie have wooden bumpers. Bumpers were removed by car owners during World War II, and replaced with wooden ones. The chrome ones were turned in to help with the war effort. After the war, it took several years for them to be replaced.
Thanks so much for this comment, I really appreciate the background infođđŒ
You're very welcome. It has been my pleasure.
Go in Peace and Walk with God. đ đ
Also, Lenny Montana was a real life Colombo family mobster.
Also whenever you see the color orange someone's about to get wacked. This was on a loop in my house growing up in an Italian family.
Growing up in an Italian household this was on almost every weekend in our house, my Uncle's and cousins would come over and watch then the big Sunday meal would come out. Great memories back then đđ·. Also one of my Uncle's tried out for the part of one of the guards in Italy, but he was unable to travel at that time.
@11:04 I love that nurse. She scares the crap out of pretty much everyone lol. Looking forward to your reaction to the 2nd film. That one's my favorite of the trilogy.
The guy who played Fredo (John Cazzle) only made 5 movies before he died. Everyone is a classic: Godfather, Godfather II, The Conversation, Dog Day Afternoon, and The Deer Hunter.
Talia Shire, the actress who plays Adrian in Rocky and Connie in this movie, is the sister of Francis Ford Coppola and the aunt of Nicolas Cage and Sophia Coppola.
John Cazale -- Fredo -- is distinguished by the fact that all five feature films he starred in were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Even a sixth film, The Godfather Part III, in which archive footage of him was shown, received this nomination.
That was an excellent reaction, enjoyed it. Also how you pay attention to the story and noticing plotholes is great.
Iâm glad you enjoyed & thank you!!
What plotholes?
@@RoosterCogburn1008 I've chosen the wrong word, plot instead of plotholesđ
"Hello, Carlo." Two words, and you know, you just know.
When Michael first sees Appolonia, his bodyguard laughs at his reaction and says "Fulminosa", Lightning in Sicilian. The Sicilians call love at first sight "The Lightning Bolt".
Oh woww thanks for sharing that!!
Godfather II is my favorite of the three đŻđŻđŻđŻ
Anybody who can watch and enjoy The Godfather for the first time and appreciate it for its greatness earns a new watcher canât wait to see you react to part 2
Edit: Iâm pretty sure Michaelâs plan to take out the heads of the other families was originally Vitoâs but ofc he swore heâd never enact revenge so they ofc waited until he died to do it. Also Michaelâs ENOUGH is insanely good itâs a highlight of the movie for me
Part 2 is posted now!
Youâre one of the smartest people that Iâve seen react to this movie. So much gets lost on most people but you understood everything immediately. Pleasure to watch. Glad you enjoyed!
Wow, thank you!
This is in my top 5 favorite movies, absolutely love it. Can't wait for part 2! Thanks for reacting!
Part 1&2 are all time classics. People will tell you not to watch the third but you really should. It's nowhere near as good as the first two but it's the conclusion that you need.
It's worth if only to hear Michael's famous line.
We pretend part 3 doesn't exist. But yea, on average movie standards it's still a good film.
But to GODFATHER standards.... let's pretend it doesn't exist đ
I'm perfectly fine with 3, could have been better but it's got great moments.
Great to see younger people reacting to these classic movies. Itâs funny some of them see the run times of the movies and think theyâre too long. But when they end they only want more. Luckily for your gen, itâs only a few clicks away. Where we would wait a year or even longer to continue our journeys.
The horse's head was real. It came from a slaughterhouse where horses were being destroyed to make dog food. A member of the production went to the company, chose a horse that resembled the thoroughbred used in the earlier scene, and asked that when the time came, the head be sent to the filmmakers. The company later sent a box with the head packed in ice.
Oh. My. God. Thatâs crazyyyyđłđłđł
Yeah the horses name was cartoon.đŽ
I love Italy and Italian people , Italians love party so traditional big family strong and love God ,,, ITALY LOVE YOU đźđčâ€ïž
Although Michael was a civilian before that he was a marine who fought in the Pacific and not only that but was a war hero. The fighting he was doing i personally believe helped make him the leader and tactician he was.
This is the first time I've seen your channel but I have watched many reactions to this film. I am so impressed how you picked up on all the details. Most who react to the Godfather miss some of the finer points. The only one you missed was Enzo, the baker who showed up at the hospital. At the beginning during the wedding, the father of Enzo's girlfriend asks the Don to use his immigration connections to keep Enzo from being deported. Otherwise, you nailed each character.
Well thanks for watching! Iâm glad you enjoyedđđŒ& I definitely try my best not to miss too muchđ
You're very quick - you figured out complicated things about the plot and the strategies involved right off the bat. Great reaction. It convinced me to subscribe to your channel. You have a good sense of humor too
Thank you!! Iâm glad you enjoyed & thanks for subscribingđđŒ
Hi, Marie! I'm starting your mob movies today. You picked some doozies! The fun thing about seeing The Godfather is now you are in on all the other movies that make references to this one. It had and has a huge impact in pop culture still to this day. Great job with this one. đ Loved rewatching it with you!
J.M., ANOTHER GREAT REACTION!! YOU PICK UP ON THINGS THAT NOT MANY OTHER REACTORS SEE AND YOU'RE VERY PERCEPTIVE WHILE WATCHING FILMS!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!
I appreciate that thank you!!
@@journeymariereacts I can't wait for you to see Godfather 2 and 3
What a lovely reaction young lady. I love seeing intelligent young people watching the greats and appreciating them.
I'll go watch your reactions videos and subscribe for more. I saw this in 1976 on a big screen.
@25:30.. That was real.. Marlon Brando had that boy scared for real.. Thatâs why he laughed and hugged him to let him know everything was okđ..
Lolđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
Hey there! Doesnât get much better than this and The Godfather pt 2! Great job! You pick up on many things! Awesome, keep it up!! đ
Thanks! Will do!
One of my favorite reactors reacting to one of my favorite movies. Love it! Awesome as always.
Wow, thanks!
At the end there, I think Kay really did believe him. Up until that point she had no reason to think he'd straight up lie to her face. But when she sees his hand being kissed as these men show their loyalty, she knows right in that moment he lied to her and everything his sister said about him is true.
I mean technically he didnât kill him đ
Journey (if i never said it b4 dope name by the way) u finally got around to checking out Godfather, its as old as hell but a classic...great reaction and u look even more beautiful and cute then always. much luv from Irelandđđœ
Godfather 1 and 2 are the greatest movies ever made! You a woman after my heart lol Subscribed!
Lol thanks for the sub!
Apollonia was raised in Sicily, she never would have asked her husband about his business. She would have made a better mob wife like Mike's mother.
That's love at first sight mama đđ„° in those days italian women were very family oriented
Greatest. Movie. Ever! Loved when they finally got Carlo! Clemenza was that dude!
awesome reaction super cool u c things quick đ
Thank you đ
11:42 Enzo got no gun but he got a big set of balls. For him to stand tall alongside Michael like that in a crisis is a gesture of honor. These Mob cats were all about family and honor.
Armed men were coming to kill Vito and all that stood between them was his youngest son and a humble baker. Enzo and his family wonât have ANY problems with anybody going forward. They would have been seriously under the Corleoneâs protection.
That was gangsta as hell. Donât ever count out the bravery of an average man.
Jus subscribed because of this video. Keep it upđ
Welcome aboard!
Thoroughly enjoyed watching you consume and digest all the nuances of this iconic film. Great cinema that captured and romanticized an essential element of the fabric of American cultural đ«¶đŸđŻ
Another Great Reaction Journey ! Keep it Up
Thank you! Will do!
Michael never got enough credit for his ability as a Marine in WW2 in those early scenes. That fighting in the Pacific some of the most brutal ever. Shooting those guys in the restaurant nothing compared to that.
And a lot of it was close quarters and hand to hand. Sonny was talking about stuff he didnât know anything about.
I do love the young ppl appreciating the classics
I know this is a bit of cliche, but this is one of my all time favourite movies. The story, the acting, the music, brilliant. As always I really enjoyed your reaction and am glad you enjoyed it!
I love your thoughtful commentary!
Thank you!!
Two behind the scenes items - one is that the guy who played Luca Brasi was actually a mob guy, one of Joe Colomboâs enforcers when they were making the Godfather in New York. Second, in the scene where Sonny beats up Carlo he actually beat the actor up in retaliation for being an asshole and carelessly hitting Talia Shire (who is Francis Ford Coppolaâs sister btw) in one of the scenes were they were supposed to be having a fight. The producer, Al Ruddy, got James Cann to not pull his punches.
You didn't miss a thing.
Has to be my best reaction to The Godfather.
Wow thank you so much!!
Great reaction. Hope you'll do more of these older classic films.
Most definitely! & Thank youđđŒ
The greatest of all films. Please continue with the other two. By the way I enjoy your reactions
I will & thank you!!
Great intelligent reaction. Thank you!!
Thank youđđđŒ
Epic movie, thanks for your reaction!
Glad you enjoyed itđđŒđ
Great video and reaction. Keep it up
Thank you! Will do!
The way your mouth opened and synced with the scream haha!! 6:22
You just gained a subscriber. Excellent reaction, loved how you called so many of the plot points ahead of time. As for Carlo setting up Sonny-how do you think the assassins knew to set up at the toll booth?
I love seeing younger folks watching older movies. Its always interesting to get different perspectives.
Awesome thank you!! Iâm glad you enjoyedđ
I love your channel greetings from đ§đŠ
Great reaction JM
Al Pacino did some great roles through the decades. But, his 1970's work is brilliant. The Panic in Needle Park, The Godfather, The Godfather II, Scarecrow, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, ...and, Justice for All.
Good Job! đ
I'm Subscribed.
Thanks for the sub!
The word the mafia is never mentioned in the movie once because this movie came out when the mafia was still very real and they didnât like the movie using the word đđ
âHello Carloâ đ
Great reaction to this classic. Subbed for more
Thanks for the sub!
I really enjoyed your reaction. Thank you.
Thank you too!
Great Reaction. Yes, please react to The Godfather Part II.
Nevermind, I just checked. Gonna watch that now đđ€Ł
This film made the unknown Al Pacino a super star.
Another great mob film is "Donnie Brasco" based on a true story.
Hi, Journey. Just found your channel. Enjoying it immensely. Very cool! I have to recommend "The Usual Suspects" and "Blood In Blood Out". ( :E
Iâm glad youâre enjoying! Those are both in my listđđ»
I still canât believe this is Pacinoâs 2nd film. Taking about âhitting the ground running!â
Marlon Brando was still a fairly young man at that time, he stuck tissue paper in the side of his gums to make himself look older. It was much more difficult at that time for actors to age on film. Brando revolutionized on screen acting in the 1950's. Look at the difference in acting from a film from the 40's to one from the 60's onwards . It's like theatre to real life.
Look forward to you reacting to the other 2 movies. The Godfather changed movie history
It was a great life. My maternal grandfather was first generation Sicilian
My compliments, a very good reaction. When I first saw that the reaction was being done by a young lady I expected that you may not catch all the gangster twists and deceptions but you were very astute and caught more than most reactors I've seen. I'm off to watch your Goodfellas reaction now.
Thank you I appreciate that!
In part 2, Fredo learns the consequences of taking sides with someone that isn't in the family.
It was Sonny that introduced Carlo to Connie.
great reaction
Observant and enjoyable reaction. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
My favorite movie of alltime. đ
The first time Carlo beat up Connie and was beaten up by Sonny was entirely natural. But it taught Carlo that if he did beat up Connie he could draw Sonny out without any of his security, so he made a deal with a rival family to set it up once more so they could kill Sonny, who otherwise would stay at home and be guarded. So the sequence where he had a prostitute call Connie to upset her and then beat her up was all staged in order to kill Sonny.
SaludĂł desde la RepĂșblica Dominicana excelente vĂdeo đ©đŽđđż
24:03 Michael never tried to hide what his family was about. So Kay walked in knowing what the deal was.
Love your t-shirt Marieđ
Thank you!!
Johnny Fontaine ... Frank Sinatra. Moe Greene ... Bugsy Siegel. Hyman Roth ... Meyer Lansky (pt 2)
The Movie Part Johnny wanted would have been in "From Here to Eternity"! And Sinatra won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor!
Nice reaction, Gorgeous.
Thank you! đ
I seen this at the drive in when it came out
You caught the plot twists really well. Nice reaction.
The sister is played by Talia Shire. She is the director's sister.
Great reaction. Do part 2 please
My favorite movie of all time đđđż
This was fun, please make sure to watch part 2, probably the best sequel of all time. 1 and 2 both won best picture.
And in Part II you get De Niro!
Hospital scene looks like something out of a nightmare.
Right!!!
When you're ready to see Al Pacino really shine (again) do "The Devil's Advocate" (1997). That is after you do The Godfather Part II which you will enjoy as well. âđ
That's one of his worst movies. Her over acted
6:13 "...or am i trippin?"
you ain't trippin
4:54 yep that is Adrian. Talia Shire is the sister of this filmâs director Francis Ford Coppola.
I enjoyed this reaction
ÂĄ MASTERPIECE !!!
At least Don Corleone is nice to kittycats. They never ask for favors except a belly rub. 4:32 The actor playing Luca Brassi was so nervous that he was going to do a scene with the great Marlon Brando that he did forget part of his speech and the director kept it in since it seemed so natural. 11:03 Yup, that nurse's hat popping up there made me jump when I first saw this movie. 13:33 Yup, Michael was a combat Marine officer fighting the Nazis just a year before in the war...he knows strategy & tactics and can stay cool.
This movie is like the origin story of a super villain.
Michael and his dad didnât want him to be in the family business. But with his father hurt there was nobody else who could step up. Sonny was dead and Fredo is a useless idiot.
The moment he tells his father âPop Iâm hereâ is a bittersweet moment for his father.
great reaction to one of the classics. definitely recommend Goodfellas and Casino if you haven't seen them already.
I reacted to goodfellas itâs on my channelđand casino is coming soon!
I just love the cat đ„°
1:37 Marlon Brando wanted the Don to look like a bulldog đ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł Iâm not even joking he stuffed his cheeks with cotton in the auditionđ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđđ
Oh wowwđ€Ł
in that day they printed versions of the paper throughout the day. You could go to a Broadway opening, then go to dinner, and pick up the late paper on yo7r way home that had the review of the play.
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Do 2 now...
