    The real reason why Mercedes has slowed down its electrification is that the market has shifted to more affordable ev's and not luxury ev's. Consumers want more affordable ev's in the price range of $ 25,000 to $ 45,000 and Mercedes cannot make them profitable in that price range.

    • @torginus
      @torginus Před měsícem +11

      You are probably right. Imo the biggest issue with EVs is that the drivetrain is so simple that it's very hard to do any meaningful market differentiation. I fear EVs are going to be like Android smartphones - a huge influx of models from a ton of manufacturers because they're so easy to manufacture, then a market bloodbath where only a few vendors remain who can make them decently enough at the lowest prices.

    • @mauriceharting5877
      @mauriceharting5877 Před měsícem +9

      @@torginus It all boils down to value, which is price combined with features and benefits.
      Right now Tesla has the right value making it the number 1 selling ev in the world with the Model Y.
      Furthermore, the Tesla profit margins per unit sold is one of the highest in the industry giving it the competitive advantage over its competition.
      The only real competitor I see right now is BYD and they are beating Tesla in Asia and are not encouraged to enter the US market due to high import tariffs.

      Mercedes-Benz does not even offer ICE cars in that price range; they are not participating in the low-cost segment. Chinese EVs are heavily subsidized by the Chinese government as part of their plan to undermine U.S. and European car manufacturers. A huge thanks goes to Elon Musk, who got it all started. The reason the U.S. has already imposed a 100% tax on Chinese EVs is due to the economic war the U.S. and Europe are waging against China. Europe will soon follow with their own extra tax on Chinese EVs. Tesla will be the first victim of this war because they will lose the largest EV market, the Chinese market. Europe and the U.S. will revert to ICE cars until they can produce affordable EVs, which will likely never happen because the profit margins on EVs are too low, and we cannot compete with Chinese cheap labor. Only China, the U.S., and Europe have the infrastructure for EVs, so the market is limited. China will only be able to sell EVs in their own market, which will also eventually decline. The EV is doomed and will disappear soon. Elon Musk has already seen the future of Tesla and has commented, "I am not interested in EVs anymore." He knows that Tesla will be the big loser in this game. EV sales in the U.S. and Europe are already declining. Big companies like Ford and GM have already stated they need more time. GM has canceled or delayed their electric pickup because they see no future in the EV market anymore. The economic war against China has already started, and everyone needs to help. If you find a sticker on a product that says "Made in China," put it back and buy one that's made in your own country to support your own workers.

      @jonathanbradshaw2575 Před měsícem

      I beg to differ. The GLC is arguably their best seller and as an ICE it was expensive, but affordable. They have left EV development too late and now do not have the infrastructure to manufacture affordably (supply chains). Not only that their EQC was arguably very light on features. The mindset was, just throw and electric engine in, instead of an ICE. Very poor execution.

    • @mauriceharting5877
      @mauriceharting5877 Před měsícem +2

      @@jonathanbradshaw2575 Mercedes did start late with their EV's compared to Tesla, but they simply cannot compete on price and profit margins and those are the main two issues.
      When a car manufacturer makes an ev, but it costs more than they can sell it for they will go bankrupt.
      Ford has the Mustang and F150 electric versions and they lose money on both and that is why they have slowed down production.

Sure EV’s are newer tech and by nature that will need higher service calls than when the tech matures more but will end up much better than ice. At the end, Germany needs to decide what would be necessary for its auto industry to survive and whether that's worth the cost. One thing is sure. If the German gov. does nothing and lets "pure capitalism" compete with Chinese companies armed with a cheaper workforce and massive subsidies, the Chinese companies win and the German auto industry will go the way of the Australian auto industry (whose gov. also did nothing to help its companies). The proper ones, the EQE and EQS in SUV and sedan form and those are quite expensive (which isn't extraordinary, they are on top half of the lineup), and while they are good EVs, they aren't good looking cars both inside and outside. The cheapest EVs they sell are adapted cars that simply aren't that good and still expensive. So it's hard to understand why they are surprised with not that much sales. In China the concentration of EV companies and technology is such that you cannot do EV engineering efficiently outside of that bubble. It is similar with software and the Silicon Valley. You just don’t get the benefits of concentration anywhere else the way you would in Silicon Valley - hiring, partnerships, suppliers, infrastructure, customers. For EVs it is all there in China

    It is about affordability of EVs that is why Mercedes have slowed down sales . Imagine buying a car and with in 12 months it is worth half as much as you paid for a trade in . This is what has recently been happening in the high end car market .
    EVs are heading towards becoming a disposable car . You buy them cheap new, and then you drive them until they stop working . Because there is no second hand market . If you have to fit new batteries the batteries will be more expensive than the value of the car .
    This is where the market for EVs is heading . Disposable cars!

    Purchasing an EV is the same as trying out a new experimental drug. You should wait a number of years so they can get the problems solved first.

    Mercedes EVs... Try to search out some ppl who do repairs on EVs. Mercedes seems to have a fair bit of quality issues, and the repairs are crazy expensive. Having seen that, I would never buy any MB EV or even hybrid. BMW, however, seem to have solid quality and great sales of EVs... I will consider them as a used buy in a few years
