The final leg of his walk is a very personal one for Michael as he is back in Spain, in the Catalonian Pyrenees. In 1939, his father fled through these mountains as a political refugee from the Spanish Civil War.

My parents did that crossing into France and ended in the refugee camps of Argeles-sur-mer where they spend two years on that beach till the germans occupied France, so they experienced the Spanish war and the Second World War, sad time for Spain and Europe

This is regarding Michael’s arthritic hip. Some of my friends have arthritic joints and should have been operated on, as after x-ray, they were found to have no, or fragmented, cartilage between the affected joints. They took two teaspoons of gelatine powder (not vegan, but from pig) every morning. After six months, after x-ray, they found the cartilage had regrown and so protected the joints and pain had subsided. They didn’t have an operation. I also have three score years and ten and, touch wood, have no problems. I take one teaspoonful as a prevention. Try it. You have nothing to lose.

MjD: I thoroughly enjoyed the videos and the narration. Congratulations!!!!! I wonder if it was all walked, given the camera person(s) and drone visuals and the light coat that would get wet. Plus no gloves. You frequently showed a change of truly lovely foulards! Also the backpack was sitting in the air a bit indicating nothing heavy in it. I am only mentioning these cues because the trekking was very long and challenging. I am glad you were able to get snow shoes and was surprised that you didn't also have yak tracks when going through the light snow. There didn't always seem to be defined paths, so I'm assuming you had a guide and part of the journey must have been with transportation because 25 miles a days is for very very fit people and quite rare. So My question is what is the best way to access a guide for such a wonderful trek?

I'm going to tell you something that your father may have experienced in 1939 . In that area of the Pyrenees many Spanish republicans, already in French territory, were put in a refugee camp by the French Government . The younger ones were deceived by telling by french authorities to them that their Spanish relatives were in Toulouse or Carcassonne waiting for them and they were allowed to leave the refugee camp, They were allowed to abandon the refugee camp and the French soldiers shot them in the woods
The Second World War was about to begin and the French authorities were not willing to house communists, republicans, socialists , Anarchists, progressives and so on, thousands and thousands of young republicans were murdered by France. I am sure your father if he was in that area knew it and was very lucky not to be killed by french government
My uncle was in one of those "refugee camps" many died of hunger, tuberculosis and so on
    French never helped Spaniard.
The first column that enters the Paris parade in the victory against Nazism was led by the Spanish Republicans, those who fought the most against Nazism and that was their honor, lead the parade in the victory day
You must be very proud of your father !

Most of those spaniards still in France in 1945 were given the French nationality, that stories of shootings ??? Well first time I hear that. I know that many were put in ''working'' units to made fortifications and roads for the army and the government and the conditions were bad. There were hated because of having the reputation of being all comunists and violent in a moment that after the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact the communist party was outlawed in France. A part the fact they were in one of the poorest region of France and the War was looming, the conditions in the camp were horrible because they didn't want them to attract more and there were plans before the war to send them to Argelia (a french territory at the time) or even Mexico that never went implemented because of the events of the war. Saying that the Spanish Republicans fought the most against the nazis is ridiculous, even those of the Free French Second Armored Division were only something like 180 in a unit with 16000 volunteers (and the Soviet Union did the most)... and those part of the resistance were a minority of it.

He makes it clear that he walks 'portions' I suspect they were actually very small portions at that. Very few 'travel' programmes are as they seem, they are All staged to some extent, and I suspect this was filmed in selected spots, then moved on. But he does not say he walked the Lot! Even as a Tory that would be a Lie too far!
