  • We built our own shower curtain rod our of copper pipe instead of spending a lot of money on a pre-built one. This DIY project was easy enough to do and look great!
Here are the pipe materials I used:
One 3/4" by 10' copper pipe
Three 3/4" by 2' copper pipe
Four 3/4" copper 90 degree elbows
    Two 3/4" copper Tees
Two 3/4" male threaded copper adapters
Two 3/4" threaded black pipe floor mounts

I sweated/soldered the pipe together and although I'm not an expert, it was good practice!

For future reference, even filming this video at HALF the distance from the unit that you're currently at would have helped immensely. I can barely see any details that I could just be observing myself.

Good work, I like how you remind about the bracing the flanges to ceiling. And sharp finish work with the black paint.

What kind of paint did you use to color it? I have something similar and I've been researching paint for copper pipes in the bathroom.

I wish you would of done a close up so we can see it better and also show us exactly what this curtain supposed to do..Does it bring the curtain all around the tub?

I guess the most curious part for me was how you fingered out where to attach the bracing in the attic to be located strategically over the tub.

He probably drilled a hole through the ceiling to find out where he needed to put the braces then crawled up in the attic attached the braces and then attach the fittings to the braces.

Have no idea how it wraps up to the faucet- need to show that.

There's a curtain on each side of the bracket coming out of the ceiling. One curtain goes along the back side the other curtain goes along the front side all the way to the faucet.

How do you mount it to the ceiling?

What was your final cost for the materials? I know they would be more now, but just curious what it cost you back then. Thanks!

Did you have to move the water spout up? I would love to replace my current built in tub that is in an alcove with a clawfoot tub, but I'm afraid the water spout is too low. I'm just curious if you had to move it up and if that was difficult at all to do.

Because ours was a new install, there wasn’t anything to move. I just measured up and placed it where it needed to be for our tub. In the case of a remodel, you would probably need to move your existing up depending on the height of your new tub.

@@TheHomeownersCookbook Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question! That helps a lot!

Creative. It probably take about 2 hours to fill the tub if your using a pot filler... Those have a very low flow capacity.

Thanks Todd! It’s actually not bad at all. Our water pressure is good though so that would factor in. I’d say for us it’s only slightly slower than a normal tub spout.
