  • If you are limited on space, but are set on installing a deep soak tub and shower combo, this video is for you! I share some tips for the install process as well as solutions to some of the challenges we ran into with the limited space and combining the tub and shower.
    When I installed this freestanding deep soak tub, I couldn't find many videos explaining tips on the install so I wanted to share some tips with you now that I'm done!
    For example, a normal tub spout wouldn't be big enough, so we decided to install a pot filler instead as the tub spout. This gave us more flexibility and works perfectly! We love how the bathroom looks and functions and have no complaints.

    My grandparents had been living in their house for over 40 years..this layout is almost exactly how their tub and shower look. I used to think it was odd based on what I was used to but it’s truly beautiful and clearly timeless.

      Except that it'd take so long to fill that big tub that water would cool before you got in. There's a reason tub spouts are about 2 gpm.

    Thanks for the video! Really helpful. Not sure if I like the curtain at the moment, I am more of a glass wall person than the curtain but we'll see. It is also difficult to put a free-standing tub in our bathroom. With the glass wall on that is mount like for walk-in shower the water will be definitely on the floor, so I guess we would like to install water drain on the floor... Going to watch the next video. Cheers!

    Great innovation on your challenges. I have a similar situation with a small space and big heavy cast iron tub. It looks better to have the drain on the side you have it. You now have a sleeker look with a "hidden drain" I wish you spoke more about the challenges in regards to moving a big heavy tub into a small space.

      Thanks! The tub we have is acrylic so it was actually not very heavy (Only about 80 lbs). I can imagine trying to get a cast iron tub into there would have been a struggle. I'd make sure you have at least a few strong people to help!

    I love this video so much. Im wanting to install a freestanding tub in my batbroom. My drain is on one side instead of centered. Right now we have a stand alone shower which is basically a shower floor insert and just use a shower curtain. (House came like that when we bought it) ive been wanting to remodel for over a year. 2 guys we ha e called for a quote tried to say we couldnt do it and had to buy an alcovetub instead which made no sense to me at all. This video gave me hope again because its 100% EXACTLY what I want to do in my bathroom. The drain on the tub is off alignment from the existing drain in the floor by about 3 maybe 4 inches. Cant i just implement the flexible tubing to accomodate this position difference??? 😄

    • @TheHomeownersCookbook
      @TheHomeownersCookbook  Před 2 lety +2

      I haven’t actually timed it and I’ve also never tried to fill this size tub with a normal tub spout so I can’t provide times, but going by other tubs we’ve used around this size that have tub spouts, I’d say this is only slightly slower than a normal tub spout. Definitely livable!

    • @TheHomeownersCookbook
      @TheHomeownersCookbook  Před 2 lety

      Thank you!! In our case, no it doesn’t. I made sure to make the curtain rod big enough that it doesn’t feel claustrophobic. The tub lip is wide enough that on a daily use basis, we keep our commonly used soaps/bottles on the lip and it works fine! We have a basket under our vanity that we keep extras or put things away when we need to clean it up! 😂

    Did you just buy a pot filler and attach it instead of the tub faucet that the standard shower faucet came with? Does it take a long time to fill the tub because the pot filler pressure is lower?

    • @TheHomeownersCookbook
      @TheHomeownersCookbook  Před 3 lety

      Yes we did. We tried to find a pot filler that was similar in color to the shower faucet so everything matched. Its only slightly slower to fill than a normal tub spout. We have good water pressure, so that may help, but we don’t have any complaints!

    • @TheHomeownersCookbook
      @TheHomeownersCookbook  Před 3 lety +1

      I wouldn’t put the tub on anything except tile or a wood like Teak that is known for its ability to withstand water. Just like any typical tub there’s always splashes of water that make it out of the tub. If you think long term, you want a floor that isn’t going to rot out. That’s just my opinion, others may think differently! 😆

  • @nicko5566
    @nicko5566 Před 2 lety +1

    Curious about the splash factor. When you shower, how much water gets outside the tub, especially on the wall with the shower head?

    • @TheHomeownersCookbook
      @TheHomeownersCookbook  Před 2 lety +1

      We use two shower curtains, one on each side, and because of that, there’s very little splash at all. The shower curtains pull behind the shower head so everything stays inside the tub. Hope that makes sense!

    This is a very high tub for an elderly person to climb in every time they want a shower. This makes no sense in stead of a combined shower tub. This is actually dangerous. The tub should be reverse and sits in it's own corner from the shower. The option is to soak in the tub or take a shower. There is no option with this placement. You have to step in the big soaking tub to take a shower. Why not just have a shower with a tub in this small bathroom. Soaking tub in the shower requires a larger square footage.
