    If you are not familiar with protein structure, this pumpkin has been carved to look like a beta-barrel protein. These proteins are usually found in cell membranes or in the membranes of organelles such as mitochondria and chloroplasts. Their structure gives them unique functions, and many beta-barrel proteins function as pores to allow transport of molecules across the membrane.
