- The Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics are well under way, so here's our special video for the Olympics.
With just a Bunsen burner, a glass Pasteur pipette, and some creativity, Charlie shows you how to make a "hockey stick"....note the quotation marks.
Come on, we're in a science lab, so we're actually talking about cell spreaders (also known as hockey sticks). You can buy plastic, metal or glass spreaders, but that's expensive -- so why not make your own and keep reusing it by sterilizing it every time?
**Remember to be careful with the open flame!!

I can only imagine that 12 people must have been searching for actual hockey sticks. This is actually the exact video I was searching for, since I'm doing this in my Microbiology 101 Lab next week! Thanks! Think I'll just stick with the basic one this first time though.
Thanks so much for this video. This is just what I was looking for. I was begrudging the cost of purchase the overpriced commercially available versions of cell spreaders. Minimum $15 bucks a piece for a glass one, and multiple hundreds of dollars and eco waste for disposable plastic ones.
come on guys, the channel is called labtricks and the title says: "hockey stick" (CELL SPREADER)
...it cant get more obvious that this is not about the sports-tool
