  • @Troggle84
    @Troggle84 Před 3 lety +41

    Well, let's take a look at why these were forgotten.
    1. Kurt Busch Kentucky Crash in 2000: The inaugural Truck race at Kentucky had a long rain delay. i think they ended up airing most of it (including this crash) on tape delay in the middle of the night. 3:30 a.m. on basic cable doesn't lend itself to a lot of viewership, now or then.
    2. 2001 Pepsi 400: Honestly, the series returning to Daytona for the first time after Dale Earnhardt's death and Dale Earnhardt Jr. winning probably overshadowed everything. That's pretty much all that most people remember from that race, along with Allen Bestwick's call at the finish.
    3. Boris Said at Sonoma, 2002: Admittedly, I missed this race back then. Am I surprised that Said binned it? Not necessarily. He could be wild at times. Is it surprising that people forgot about this incident? No, especially since he was able to drive away.
    4. Jeff Fuller at Kentucky in 2005: It was a standalone event with FOX Sports' B-team on site. The whole event just didn't have prestige, even though it did draw well at the time. That said, it was frightening to watch and Fuller was never the same. He only raced sparingly afterwards.
    5. The Robert Mitten crash: This occurred during a practice session that was not aired on television, I believe. The clip here was aired prior to the start of the race. NDS Motorsports didn't have a backup, so they withdrew. Something like that happening outside of a race just doesn't have the same impact, regardless of how wild it was. Also, CTMP wasn't bundling their tire barriers together at the time. Instead, their setup was like a more orderly 1990s Sonoma setup. Crazy things can happen in that situation.
    6. 2013 Truck Big One at Talladega: I don't consider this to be overlooked at all, knowing that Kyle Busch went head-on into (and broke) an unprotected concrete wall.
    7. Chad McCumbee's GWC wreck at Texas: Yes, this is overlooked. You never really hear much about past Texas truck races unless you're referring to Todd Bodine, Brendan Gaughan, or when Kyle Busch lost his mind in 2011.
    8. 2014 Crafton at Dover: It is, and basically for the reasons given in the video.
    9. 1995 Martinsville Carelli wreck: I knew what this was the moment it showed up, but we're getting towards 25 years ago now. A lot of fans don't know about the early years of the series.
    10. 2009 Eric McClure at Memphis: Another standalone race. This was just another one of McClure's bad wrecks. He had something like 4-6 really bad wrecks over a span of about 5 years. Sadly, stuff like that has really taken a toll on him.

      I haven't looked at your lists, but I'd have a couple nominations if he does a part 2 as well.
      1993 Diehard 500 had 2 list worthy wrecks. The 1st was the Big One where Jimmy Horton rolled over the wall and down a dirt bank in turn 1, which led to NASCAR instituting catch fences in the corners (a lot of people may want to forget this wreck as Stanley Smith was critically injured in the crash--though he survived he never raced in Cup again). Most NASCAR fans remember Bobby Allison (1987) and Carl Edwards (2009) going into the catch fence in the trioval, but a lot fewer remember Neil Bonnett going into the catch fence in the trioval in this race in his return after being injured in the 1990 Transouth 500.
      1997 spring Atlanta (the last race before it was reconfigured into a cookie cutter) where Steve Grissom hit the inside wall on the backstretch so hard he knocked the fuel cell out of the car which slid all the way out to the outside wall and erupted into flame after a car ran through the gas after the cell ruptured as well as broke the inside wall.
      Newer fans may not remember the spring 1994 race at Talladega and Mark Martin's wild ride through 2 fences and a guard rail before finally coming to rest against another guard rail. Benny Parsons having fun at John Kernan's expense at the end of Mark's interview after he came out of the infield care center was gold too ("There are some places he can't talk about on television, don't you understand?")

    The only addition I'D make would be the 2009 Daytona 500, where Earnhardt Jr. gets himself a lap down, spins out Vickers, and causes a 10-car crash that takes out race leader Kyle Busch. The odd thing about THAT wreck was that it was still where the race leader and other lead-lap cars would line up BESIDE lapped cars (hence why Kyle Busch was in a position to be involved in the incident), and no driver recieved the lucky dog because Earnhardt Jr., who would've recieved it (would've been Vickers because he was originally ahead of Jr.), was involved in the accident. That crash gets little attention, despite its implications for the future of the sport, such as the change to leaders lining up at the front, which was implemented later in the same season (a response to the positive feedback such restarts in the All-star race had gotten from fans).

    A way to improve these comentary style videos is to stop doing them when they aren't needed. You aren't really adding to the experience by interrupting the flow with trivial info that, while not explained by the crashes themselves, don't need to be explained in such detail. Can't help but notice your video is also stretched to the 10 minute mark, an odd choice considering you aren't really make money off of crash compilations
