- OUCH! Disney animation is on the skids, and the company needs a "course correction" says legendary animator and director John Musker (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin). He also wants you to know ahead of time he had NOTHING to do with Moana 2, which doesn't bode well for the sequel.

It's too late for Disney, Bob is hellbent on solidify his Legacy as the man who ruined Disney.
Also, he's already sold off so much of his own stock in the company so he doesn't have any incentive to change things.
Also, he's already made tens, if not hundreds, of millions to fall back on when things go south. So why should he care?
Bob Iger is to Disney, what the Iceberg was to the Titanic. 😂
Disney insistent on denying Get Woke Go Broke are real thing, did make them too late to course correct.
"Disney needs to course correct," says animator... and EVERYONE ELSE.
Cue the "Well no f*cking sh*t!" meme.
Too late the ship already hit the iceberg.
Everyone with common sense has been saying this for years! Disney is no longer what it used to be, and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to stop taking Pixie Dust!
The animator hasn't gone anywhere far enough. Nothing short of debridement will allow the company to heal.
That’s what we all have been saying!
The problem is that they don't want to, nor can they change quickly enough.
Why the hell don't they?
Cause if they do that mean Malpus Legate Igor is gonna have to go back on all of his ideals and we all know the Destroyer would rather be put 6ft under before he admits his and his ilks' screw ups.
Even if they change today, they will never get another dollar out of me.
Now that I know what they really think, I know that if I give them money, they’ll turn around and use it against me (giving money to causes or politicians).
At this point, I don't think they can even afford to change.
I mean they spent so much of their effort kicking people out who were normies, they're not gonna just come back when they change course, even if they make a big fuss about it. At least not to a degree that'll keep them afloat.
@@coreywong6229That's what they should force him to do or fire him if he wants to behave like a man child.
Course Correction? More like a full 180 turnaround. It's no longer about the story, but lectures and messages. Boring.
They missed the turnaround window, Disney has officially passed the critical point of no return. Whether they pull a 180 or just keep going forward, they've tainted their brand to an irreparable degree. I truly do not think they could recover from this even if they separated themselves from politics/wokeness entirely, which we all know they won't even do that.
Forced DEI is a death sentence to quality. Even worse, forcing DEI into critical professions (e.g., medically-related fields) can lead to actual deaths.
Quality is not a goal saturation is, They think they can survive until the market catches up with them.
Meanwhile at boeing...
Forced DEI is fascism and dictatorship that cannot be legal.
DEI is communism for companies
Just wait until capitation is in full affect.
John Musker isn't a legendary animator. He's a legendary director: Great Mouse Detective, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, Treasure Planet, Princess and the Frog, and Moana to name them.
Him and Ron Clements basically defined the modern Disney brand.
Wow, he did my all time favorite Disney movies. Mouse detective, Treasure planet are GOATS. The rest of those listed are great too
@@drowninginSo true! Treasure Planet in particular was criminally underrated, it was a great movie for boys.
@@whistlingsage9817 That was the basic problem it had. Disney's animated features' public always had a prevalence of little girls. Treasure Planet lacked a prominent female character, like there were in other male-led Disney movies, like Tarzan, Hercules, etc.
The great mouse detective will alaways have a place in my heart forever.
The funny thing is modern WDAS and Pixar would never let one person direct that many movies. Like Pete Doctor didnt even direct INside Out 2. And you cant' give me the "Oh he's the studio head so after Soul he stopped" excuse. James Gunn is studo head of DCU and that is not stopping him from directing the Superman movie.
Bob Iger with his Ego and minions?!
They would rather see everything burn,
instead of eating a humble pie.
I hate Bob Iger to death so much!
Because they don’t like humble pie.
Even if Disney course corrected tomorrow, they still have two problems: 1) all the animation schools they recruit from are super woke, and 2) they've burned too many bridges with the people who have actual talent. Bob chose his hill to die on. Maybe Larry Fink will take pity and hire him.
First of all Bobo needs to go, then the next one should be prepared and willing to repair things.
Moving their HQ away from LA would help.
Not to mention the endless bullying and gaslighting Disney did to the public, especially to families.
Why the hell don't companies keep their damn woke politics out of schools and other businesses? Then we wouldn't be in this mess on who's side they are on.
A lot of them aren’t recruited or haven’t even set foot in an animation school or a film school.
@@Disneyfan82they want those in schools so they will grow new generation of sheep who they will rule. Only thing is that kids hate those things and arent buying it too maybe even more than us. So it doesnt work
We need more people like Musker, who actually respect Disney's legacy and fans, back in charge of Walt's company.
It's far too late for them. #DisneyIsDead
Even if he was offered a seat at the board he could only do so much.
I wish that we had help from more than one person forcing those bad people out of Disney forever and never come back.
@@Disneyfan82 I know it wouldn't take just one person. Iger's entire regime needs to be replaced.
@@365ral That's what I mean.
If someone would have told me 30 years ago that Disney would turn into a racist and bigoted company that idealizes skin color, I would have laughed.
I’m not laughing now.
I can't tell if it's more ironic or fitting that the generation ostensibly dedicated to ending racism will go down in history as the most racist generation in a century.
@@moresnacksplease526 racism was dead in the 90s. this is why gen x is the forgotten generation. nothing to hate so they must be ignored.
@@DieselRamcharger GenX was encouraged to be independent. We had to learn from our mistakes and experience the world for ourselves. We picked up on how much of a mess things are and to pick our fights with actions having consequences. We're the forgotten generation because we don't scream or freak out over every little thing compared to the other generations.
Disney's always had a bit of a controversial reputation in regards to cultural depictions, though.
I hate the direction they've been going in, but you can't say they're "racist." They're anti-racist. They're the opposite of racist.
They keep talking about how they need to, but they won't. Disney does not want to admit that DEI hiring and practices is a failure, so they will continue to burn money so that they don't have to ever say that they were wrong.
Worth every penny till $1.99 MAC N Cheese is on the menu.
It’s not even profitable. If you’re not making money, what are you doing as a business? Definitely feel like there is some backdoor government pressure going on.
I think Kneon is spot on here. The tumblr crowd they hired is very resentful vindictive and litigious- the bosses are afraid of them. They know a course correction is needed but it’ll be a slow, tactful and expensive process to do so.
@mateog5362 The bosses are somewhat afraid of them or something? Damn, talk about weak leadership. I'll just fire ALL tumblr-like blokes with no issue anyway if I was a boss or ceo. Probably not instantly, but yeah.
Yeah given how hostile they are towards anyone who doesn't endless praise their work to the sky. They are not interested in story telling. Otherwise, they would listen to feed back. For hey, that feed back might just be the gold they are looking for to help improve and craft a much better story next time.
They first have to admit they have a problem, and they seem incapable of doing that.
what do u mean? the problem is clearly the lack of modern audiance xDD
I had a neighbor here in Orlando who was an animator for Walt Disney we moved in in 2007 and they moved out about 6 months after we bought our place. I talked with him quite a bit and he said he was leaving Disney because they were "losing their minds" in his own words even back then. He had found a job as an animator with the US army in Tennessee and that was where they were headed. Never heard from him again
From the artistic caliber of Disney feature animation to the army, jeez what a downgrade. That's too bad, he could've worked at other studios. If he was a 2D animator that certainly makes sense - that was when the 3D push was at its peak and they were trying to wipe out the last traces of 2D.
Yet will they? No. Theyre incapable of learning the folly of their ways.
How did this all happen?
Watching Disney do this is like watching an old friend ruin their life and actively blame you for their failures, and if they can’t be helped if they don’t WANT to be helped.
They need to clean house, bring back the legendary animators and take their time creating these movies again.
Too late for me. My child is 9 and watches nothing from Disney in the past 10-15 years. I refuse.
Not even Cars 2?
@@Cubeytheawesome Cars 2 has it's moments tho... and even then, it's at least better than Mulan 2 and Belle's Magical World.
@@Cubeytheawesome no. Nothing.
Mulan 2 has one good song though, "Like Other Girls." That's more than the number of good songs Moana 2 is likely to have. Oh Cars 2 also has one, "You MIght Think." I feel like some of the dialogue in it is yikes but overall good movie, though I was sure that for the third one there was no way to ingore the spy stuff, but they did...
And Cars 3 is definitely the lame one of the.. collection. It is not a trilogy because the second one doesnt really fit in with what hte first two aim for.
And also the fact that Lightning McQeen is at the beginning of his career int he first and at the end in the third is super sketchy when you consider this is primarily a franchise to sell TOYS to children. Or soup cans, Cheez-It crackers, anything with Mater or LIghtning McQueen on it.
Disney at this point is a sinking ship that's taken in too much water. Patching the hole isn't going to fix anything.

Disney needed a course correction 8 F*CKING YEARS AGO JOHN!!!!!!!!!!!
To the writers, the only thing is messages. There's a reason why the npc meme is a thing. The message IS their identity.
Meaningless DEI messages that it.
Disney is becoming less and less visible with each passing generation. They lost their touch, and the bulk of their market is 30+ years old.
A colossal overhaul would be needed to correct itself over the course of the next 16 years, but it can't be done with the folks currently in charge.
I mean, when some random short film about a digital circus made by some Aussie teens in their basements becomes more popular than a Disney film meant to celebrate 100 years that got a SUPER BOWL AD and the gist in 2023... that says a lot.
There is a girl in her mid-twenties who does Disney vlogging content, and also seems to agree with DEI stuff, she doesnt make it super obvious but one of her statements indicated such. It had to do with the actor's strike, she claimed she wanted to be PC, which is ew.
My curiosity is, what does one do if their YT content is focused on something that is now against their principles? For instance, a Disney logger, do they feel obligated to keep doing that if they no longer agree with Disney? What about a Pokemon GO content creator? Do they just shut down their channel because PGO is now woke? It can be scary, I'd expect...
Although the vlogger mentioned above also claims to go to church, which makes it weird that she would care about political correctness. She does originate from Texas, but like...where in our state? Because it sounds like she might come from Austin, just recently learned about their leanings, yikes.
Even if Disney course corrected now, it would take 3 or more years to see a positive change in the company that used to be in the business of entertaining audiences instead of lecturing and insulting them.
And even if they do, some former fans will never return. Its hard to reestablish trust after bullying your fans for years.
It took 3-8 years to get rid of everyone, it will take at least 3 just to get the pieces in place to start working on something positive, and then another 2-4 after that. Any animation student with a heartwarming-story-that-captivates-the-audience and a Midjourney subscription will be able to make a Pixar movie by then.
They won't be able to course correct without shedding a considerable portion of the dead weight that they've accumulated over the last three years.
Disney is dead. They will never change. They don't wanna change.
They're immature, spoiled, narcissistic brats that's what they are.

@@tsiefhtes Zootopia and Moana were great films. The dismissal of John Lasseter is where I draw the line for both Disney and Pixar.
Disney is well past the point at which simple course correction can save them. They've driven their audience off with woke politics, and most of them won't be coming back even if Disney does change it's tune now. People don't forget insults easily, a fact that Disney is about to learn.

Moana is the last Disney film that felt like old Disney. With family and product more important than the messaging.
Walt is turning in his grave because of how Disney turned into
In the past, different IP had their own edge. Something that made them unique and had a certain audience in mind. But I believe by using the "for everyone" approach, they started sanding down the edges more and more over time to the point that there are no edges left and all that remains is a sphere in the place of a sturdy cube.
I agree. Not everyone film is made for a broad audience. Some films are specifically targeted toward a niche audience that will appreciate it.
John Musker, John Lasseter. Animation giants who need to be brought back. Disney cannot return to glory without their like.
Nah, it's over. Even if there was the will, by the time they remove all of the people required to bring back the Old Guard, any animation not made in Korea will be 6 people in a living room using AI(maybe Lasseter's), not the mini-Google-plex that is Pixar. They tried very hard to distance themselves from their past, and it worked-- we no longer associate them with good films. Since they can't fire everyone, hire everyone, and then rebuild the reputation before theater chains go under, they'll likely go the way of Hannah-Barbara.
@@moresnacksplease526remember that one trend of AI Pixar posters? Those would have made better movies than whatever elemental and inside out 2 were about.

Yes because they aren’t good at even basic animation
In hindsight, it's hilarious to think about their status... AI will either help them, cause they don't know jacksquat about animation, or hurt them, because they'd take their jobs.
They’ve seen and heard all the criticisms going on in the company and yet it all went ignored. They don’t want things to change.
They’re getting worse than ever and they really do need to focus on course correction as John is right about that. If they won’t do what Musker says and still keep doing quantity over quality they HAVE NO FUTURE!
Disney is done with heart and soul with their movies. All they want now is stench and trash.
I think it's impossible to course correct. Once upon a time, artists worked at Disney into their 60s and 70s. The old guard has been purged. New animators can technically animate but there's no one to pass on Walt's philosophy. It's been absolutely consumed by executives who don't care about the art of animation and just see it as something that can be done by anyone as long as its cheap. It's all about the expectation of unrealistic (for this 21st century media market) earnings for shareholders. Course correct? They're heading for an iceberg. They are practically Disney in name only now.
Disney hit the iceberg many years ago with Woke Agendas and DEI. It is a sinking ship and the rescue ship is not coming. Its like they bought a beautiful tree and watered it each day with weed killer. I still cant believe anyone could destroy what Walt Disney created...but here we are.
When talking about Disney, it feels like it's a financial report and not a creative studio
Disney delenda est. You can't turn all the animated classics into endless live-action second-tier movies, and they've conditioned the entire world to wait for animated material to be put on streaming. Disney's days of putting butts into theater seats are long gone.
As a gen Xer, I remember when if a Disney movie came out, life revolved around going to see it. It was essentially a can't miss cultural phenomenon, simply by virtue of being Disney. It didn't matter what age you were, male, female, or whatever, everyone wanted to see the new disney movie.
The last Disney movie my daughter wanted to watch was Moana.
Now everyone from my family to friends, and kids asks "is it a Disney movie?" And as soon as somebody answers in the Afirmative, whether it is animated, a remake, or even owned by Disney like Indiana Jones and the dial of Destiny, nobody has any interest.
We're not going to see it in the theater, we are not subscribing to Disney Plus, we're just not interested enough to even give it a chance.
Not because of our politics, my social group is definately well left of center, though not extreme, and we just think it is bad story telling and not even entertaining in the least.
Literally nothing Disney puts out is even worth a chance in our eyes at this point. We don't rage against it, we just quietly don't pay for it.
Okay? What, you want a hug? Shoulder to cry on and tell you Disney is going to change? Or you just want to complain? The latter. Oh, Jesus. You have a vested interest in expressing how you quietly don't care for something.

But I do like to discuss the market forces that influence investment choices.
@@docmike8601 In the hopes they grow as massively influential as Disney was? That's a stretch. There are plenty of smaller animation studios that are just as superb and allow for a LOT more creative wiggle room than a corporation with a lot of money on the line that has never been able to resist the temptation of checking boxes. You should check those out. A lot of former animators started their own studios or otherwise do independent films - both big and small. Don Bluth was one of those and was able to shape peoples' childhood with movies like "Land before Time" - though some animators have argued that his work is mediocre. There's too many of them to count, and it's all there. If you want art and story, it's extremely abundant. It just won't be handed to you on a platter. Like Musker - after leaving Disney, his film "I'm Hip" almost made the cut for an Oscar nomination but didn't make it past the Top 15 cut. The director for Klaus on Netflix was the animator for Hades in Hercules, Glen Keane(supervising animator of Ariel) does his own thing, Ken Duncan has his own studio, and Aaron Blaise(Director of Brother Bear) just finished a short film about a polar bear that's going through the film festival circuit. Disney, off of being a massive corporation, has always had very, very narrow creative room to work with with too many types of viewers in the audience to creatively appease. That leaves a lot out that these other studios offer that some people may find even more value in. The extreme limitations of stories they can tell is the downside of the capitalist aspect of the filmmaking system, but good/bad in that it literally shapes the culture of the world being so widespread.
Around 40 years ago I saw an off broadway play called: Vampire Lesbians of Sodom.

Thats funny. How about new blood that isn't based on d.e.i. requirenments
How they gonna do that? You know how Disney is, people like Iger is straight up hellbent on taking full control & power in the company with this DEI bs, which is the same thing that Feige (Marvel) & KK (Lucasfilm) are focusing on messaging over creativity, that’s a problem.
Think about it, if you’re actually a creator and wanted to share it with everyone in the world where they can escape to be entertained and have a good time; considering if you’re working with stubborn and abysmal movie company like Disney for example, they’ll take advantage of work behind your back adding more DEI agenda-driven crap, throws you under the bus for another box office failure again like the ALWAYS do.
That’s one of the main reasons why your creative work comes before you before you trust working with anyone around you. (like your protecting your baby, your own kid) Its just like the actor & director Ryan Reynolds & Shawn Levy are fighting against Disney’s ideologies together to make sure the Deadpool & Wolverine movie do good in theaters.
I agree with you 100% that they do need new blood who understands old school Disney, but again I’m just saying, there could be some greedy corporates you can’t trust sometimes. If they say that love your creative work as everyone else does & they plan making a reboots, sequels or prequels, you have to speak up for what you think first or what the fans think first as well.

- selling 20th Century Fox back
- selling Hulu, National Geographic, A&E, and possibly ESPN (but I would keep the ESPN wide world of sports at Disney World)
- of course dropping the high prices in everything like the parks and Disney+
- and we’re gonna shift our focus back on entertaining people rather than making things that’s targeting a certain group or demographic

Discworld under Musker's supervision would be super interesting!
Pixar needs more jiggle physics.
It's too late. Enough people are actively avoiding them, and they have made reform noises with no action too many times. They no longer have the talent, either.
Crazy idea Disney...make stuff the audience wants to see, dont pander and you'll make money.
Everybody save for Iger & his booklicks on The Disney Board & the MSM can see it. But if the shareholders aren't willing to force change, then both they & the company are getting what they deserve.
How absurd! One would have thought the box office, park attendance, and streaming service disasters would have sent them the message a long time ago! NOPE! And we're supposed to think when a retired Disney animator says a Course Change is needed, it's going to suddenly change the minds of the idiots running the operation? Not going to happen!
Why the hell won't they grow the hell up and get over themselves enough to do something about all this chaos? Oh, that's right. They think that everything is fine when it's not. Always lying to everyone and to themselves that there are problems.

THE John Musker? As in the John Musker who gave us Aladdin, Hercules, Little Mermaid and The Great Mouse Detective (among plenty others)? The guy who would know a thing or two about creating quality films that are still looked back on fondly over 30 years later? Films that defined Disney for the modern era?

This is how stupid Disney is. You have legendary creatives, as well as millions of fans, shouting the right choices to make like they're The Price Is Right audience and still, like Sideshow Bob, Iger elects to step on every single rake in the parking lot.
You know what? It isn't stupid. At this point it is willful ignorance or stubbornness. Leadership is out of touch and creatively bankrupt. And it's because they're afraid of risking anything, because their projects are far too bloated and their bad ideas have already cost them too much. They did it to themselves.
You realize how much corporate nonsense they fought back then? It was greater than now. This is nothing new. Same as in the Dark Ages before the Renaissance.

There's a HUGE difference between a story having a message, and messaging.
They need more than just course correction
They are so arrogant. They won't do it. I think they will be bought outright by someone else.
I hope Elon Musk buys it and get Nelson Peltz to run as CEO. Disney can then sell all their failing movie studios and streaming that is bleeding them billions and an albatross around their necks. The Disney parks are the only things that make money and they are now even destroying those eg removing splash mountain for Tiana Brocolli adventure. The parks are no longer places to escape reality. Complete and Total mismanagement by woke cultural\cancel culture vandals. Walt Disney would be turning in his grave.
“Animation is for kids.” I thought with the increasing popularity of anime we had moved past that. And if you're making family entertainment, then it's even better if you have things that young and adult audiences can enjoy and entertain.
"Disney needs to course correct!" Dude, the time to do that was seven years ago. It's too late now.

Too many cooks in the kitchen is why movies now have such a bloated budgets. Its not the CGI.
Also. Treasure Planet was basically sabotage by Disney.
They really tried to make their 2D projects fail in the early 2000s... only reason why L&S was successful was because it had a relative lack of competition, allowing for people to see it and spread good word of mouth.
Nope. Disney needs to go bankrupt, then get bought up by a new owner, and change the whole company from top to below. Tats the next course of direction.
Nope let them go full speed ahead to the edge of the flat earth. They decided to not use their brains so why stop now
If Disney wants they’re audience again, they need to return to hand drawn animation.
If I were these veteran animation artist, I would basically film myself doing drawing, 2D animation and old style animations and put it on CZcams See Try to learn it themselves how to draw these animation styles So they could be preserved forever
Saying Disney need to course correct won't change anything now. Disney is a sinking ship. Just a matter of time before the whole ship sinks.
Disney needs to replace much of management. Until that happens nothing will change.
They need more than a course correction, Bob The Bum needs to be fired along with the executive board!
I think the opportunity to course correct has come and gone.
Encanto is not a good movie it ends with a stupid twist. Mirabel has to stop her sister from being perfect and marry a good guy. Which made no sense because it was clear her sister loves the guy. Also the guy and her cousin never end together either. Is jut a story about Mirabel telling her sister to go crazy and stay single for not good reason. And Bruno was hiding because he was afraid of his prediction but he didn't do anything bad and that's the problem, he is not a villain or a misunderstood person is just a crazy guy who hide in the walls. Is a waste of time and the donkey are so insulting. Honestly no one in Latin America like that movie, the dolls never sell, girls felt insulted of how ugly they were. Was a waste of time. They could had done many thing but they did nothing but insult latinos.
Too many white culture family problems that made no sense in a Hispanic/Latino family
Oh, they are 100% terrified of getting rid of the activist employees.
Everyone knows that, but self correction would mean accepting that we were right all along.
Do you really think that the people that see us as an enemy to be defeated would do what we want?
The Titanic is a perfect metaphor for Disney;
Oversized, overbuilt, over-confident despite glaring design flaws, ignoring both warning signs and communicated warnings, blindly plowing on ahead with full speed, ultimately thinking that not even looming icebergs in her dangerous course can sink her, because she will see them in time, and turn in time, and if not, she can crack them.
Everyone, there are not enough lifeboats aboard, only enough for the chosen few elites that caused this mess. The rest will be allowed to go down with the ship.
I think one of the problems is that they are so used to seeing race, sexuality, gender as such important parts of somebody’s identity that as soon as they get those things, they forget about it, needing to be an actual character.
So of course, there’s characterization there female black and gay. No but like what is her motivation? What’s her backstory female black gay.
it's trying to talk to the borg be assimilated or destroyed
Also like Toy Story 1 and those alien toys in the claw machine. Just replace the alien toys with Disney and the claw with Blackrock.
So they want the message still, it just needs to be subtle? They learn nothing
