      Same here I bought about a month ago. The older models used to be Adaptive sync compatible (at least that's what was written in on/off mode in menu) but the new g2spe is G-sync compatible. I use AMD card but there's no problem. The image is great and little to no ghosting on the panel. And that unit's advantage to this 180Hz msi unit is that it has both hdmi and dp cable included in the box.

  • @Hybred
    @Hybred Před 4 měsíci +8

    Have you thought about using portable "monitors" as a desktop display? They're way cheaper than normal monitors and its not because their specs are bad but rather cause they're smaller.
    You can also pair them with a "tablet arm mount" which acts like a monitor arm so you can use it at a desk and bring it closer to your face.
    Other than decent specs for a good price you also get higher PPI (at the expense of screen real estate ofc). They're very good, typically between 10.1in - 18in

    • @Hybred
      @Hybred Před 4 měsíci +6

      Higher PPI = better
      OLED 2160p 60hz 15.6in - 282ppi $499
      IPS 2160p 60hz 15.6in - 282ppi $299
      IPS 1080p 60hz 13.3in OLED - 165ppi $139
      IPS 1600p 120hz 16in - 215ppi $119
      IPS 1440p 60hz 14in - 185ppi $89
      IPS 1280p 60hz 10.1in - 219ppi $69
      IPS 1080p 60hz 12in - 183ppi $59
      IPS 1080p 60hz 15.6in - 141ppi $75
      For reference
      1080p 24in 91ppi
      1440p 27in 108ppi
      2160p 32in 137ppi
      So even the lowest monitor in my list (141ppi) will look equivalent to the crispness/detail of a 4k 32in display due to pixel density

I both love and hate the size cause now I find myself frequently adjusting my head way more but at the same time playing games on such a large scale at 1440p 165fps is pretty incredible, at least when I can hit 165fps which is like in 2 or 3 games all of which are a decade or 2 old.

    That is a really good price. I was £220 on a 30" 200Hz but it is an ultrawide and with that comes more cost as you need to make sure you are aware of how much more taxing the UW is on the gpu. I already use a 7800xt so it isnt a big fps drop for what I do. I will look into this for the kids pcs as they are both using 24" monitors that are a bit tired.

    Since you do budget monitor reviews, could you cover the Sansui ES-G24X5 or whatever the UK equivalent is? My current monitor has a lot of ghosting because of the slower budget VA panel. The Sansui ES-G24X5 is actually their flagship monitor. It’s a 24” 1080p 165Hz monitor with an IPS panel. Despite being their Flagship monitor, it’s only $105 (USD). As until I can get the Corsair Xeneon Flex, I need a monitor with a much faster response time. And IPS panels tend to have much faster response times than equivalent VA panels, especially at the sub $200 range.
    As I didn’t realize a VA panel would be this slow in regards to response time. As I have 2 other screens. One is my main TV which is a 65” OLED and a 30” Sanyo HD CRT. I don’t have ghosting on either set because of the near instantaneous response time of OLED, and the instant response time of the speed of light for the HD CRT because of the electron gun. I have an HD CRT for my PS3.

  • @MrSmitheroons

    Nice, it seems like the cost of several of these higher-refresh monitors is coming down without cutting many corners. If this is to become the new "normal", it really does need to be at an accessible price, and it looks like we're finally starting to get that.
    I think just about everyone with a gaming PC owns a lighter game or two, and/or would be willing to drop some settings here and there to see what high-FPS gaming is all about.
    Also: I think you mentioned this, but if you lock your game to 120FPS on a 180Hz display, have VRR / Adaptive Sync turned on, and hit a bit of stutter or drop below (or just tip over above) 120 momentarily, the monitor can keep up just fine and it'd hardly be noticeable. So, whatever FPS you're shooting for, VRR really does sound like it's give you flexibility to leave tearing behind and not have to use traditional VSync to do so.
    I believe turning VRR off and allowing tearing technically gets you just slightly better input latency still, but it's getting to the point of being so little latency you may just want the VRR on even if you're a person who craves quite a low-latency experience.
    When the hardware is capable of all of this, you can turn on/off settings as you please, try a bit of everything, and set it to what you actually want on the day of. Not locked in to anything. And again, with prices becoming reasonable, there's not much reason not to -- if already needing a new monitor, it may as well be one that can do high FPS and VRR at this point.

    Got the 144Hz version of this monitor a couple years back, and yeah, I never use any of the extra features. Great little monitor, though I struggle to see much difference after about 90fps or so, but maybe that's just my... let's just say over 40... year old vision.
    Kinda hacked off that I paid so much(£280), but that was just the standard price for a higher than 60Hz monitor back then.

    For the really budget concious buyer there are cheaper 1080p options that don't have the "Gamer" premium marketing that they charge extra for . For example there are several 100Hz 24 inch models including an MSI Pro model for £89. I f I was doing an ultra-budget setup I'd include one of these.

    Are there significant differences in color performance and brightness between the G244F E2 and the G255F monitors?
    The ADOBE RGB / DCI-P3 / SRGB / Brightness(nits) specifications are as follows:
    G244F: 94.4% / 92.05% / 122.88% / 250
    G255F: 82% / 78% / 99% / 300
    My PC specs:
    CPU: R5 1600
    GPU: GTX 1070
    I'm wondering if the G244F E2 would be a better choice for activities like watching Netflix and playing AAA games such as 2077 or Elden Ring

    • @GlacikingTheIceColdKing
      @GlacikingTheIceColdKing Před měsícem

      G244F E2 is worse than G255F and the first G244F, so don't. those percentage only represent the wideness of the color gamut and not the color accuracy.
