The Outcast situation was a mutiny when the local elder violated the rules of the Western Elders & Broke Brotherhood tradition
also , in Fallout 4 lore , Maxson reunited the Outcasts with the main force ...
Also , Maxson was far more popular than his last real predessesor , Elder Lyons, who was in fact the elder that broke tradition and caused the Outcast situation
Imagine if someone who wasnt even born in the brotherhood to begin with , killed the extremelly popular Elder , and he as a replacement was Lyons on steroids ... and appointing what is perceived as an "abomination" to be second in command...

I always felt like it was weird that Maxson comes to the bunker to confront you one on one. Why wouldn't he send a few vertibirds of paladins to do it? Almost feels like that part was added last minute to give some closure to the situation. I would have greatly preferred the option to end it how this mod does.

    • @SinnerBeta
      @SinnerBeta Před 7 lety +58

If he did there would be no chance for the Sole Survivor to convince him to spare him as he does so in secret from the rest of the Brotherhood. I don't think he would do so in front of his own men, not wanting to set a hypocritical precedence where he orders them to kill Synths but lets his favorite one go.

    • @Ralwor
      @Ralwor Před 7 lety +5

      CD 2409
The concept of the butterfly effect can be considered here. Instead of thinking about the player being in control of what happens, we think about the character Maxon thinking about having sent you to kill Danse, if you chose not to kill him then maybe the conclusion that Maxon comes to during this post-thought is "oh crap I better go make sure." v.s. "Nah, I can trust the sole survivor."
I have seen functionality in the game that suggests that it is not at all impossible to teleport the PC to somewhere outside the bounds of an area to keep the player from seeing them while using the dialogue camera to create "Cutscenes" where dialogue takes place without the Sole Survivors presence. Teleporting the PC back to wherever they were.
My thought on this came from experiences from other games where there are cutscenes that take place without the Player Characters presence.
Im going to use KOTOR and KOTOR-TSL as an example because a large portion of cutscenes take place where Revan or Exile are not present.

The problem with the ending lorewise, is that it's already been established that only the High-Elder and the council out west gets to decide who leads a division . New Vegas already established how a elder can be relieved of command, in the chains that bind quest, A lowly paladin cannot jump rank and depose an elder, only the executive officer ( Captain Kells) can challenge a sitting elder under the right conditions.
Most of the brotherhood is fanatically devouted to Maxson, Arthur is revered like royalty, there not gonna back some upstart who killed the last living descendant of their founder just to save a synth.

Thats an option I really, *really* wanted with Danse, and possibly any other BoS members that don't like being better equipped raiders. Leave the collection of iron-fisted fascist tech-cultists and join a force that actually /does/ fight to protect people.

    1) you can go back to listening post bravo after the main quest if you missed it it in blind betrayal
    2) there are ways to get Danse to confront Maxson on the Prydwen

Then I went to see Danse and he mentioned an Elder Maxson and I was all, "Wait... The little kid? He can't be older than 20..."
As much as I trash Arthur's BoS, I think they are cool. And they make for great antagonists. The heroic faction turned bad, using all of the resources attained by the Lone Wanderer and Lyons leadership for immoral and self-righteous means. I wonder what happened to our Fallout 3 character after the new leadership took over and reintegrated the Outcasts...

but theres a character who died in a power armour when you're on a quest trying to find paladin brandis' recon squad. if you look carefully on this character(when you first found the missing squad's holotape), he's wearing a vault suit underneath the power armour. i wonder who that is. considering that the paladin brandis' squad is the first BoS force who put their steps on the commonwealth and was commanded from the capital wasteland(this was stated by paladin danse when you first commanded to search the missing squad) i wonder and guess thats the lone wanderer(main character) from Fo3 but, who knows..

And turn the Brotherhood of Steel into the Klingons, where an Elder has to worry more about some Paladin or Procter challenging him to a duel, than the execution of the Brotherhood’s mission? Yes, the BoS styled themselves after medieval knights, but they retained a lot of practices and doctrine of the US Army. That is why they have ranks, chain of command etc. They know that asinine actions such as dueling your superior officer will gut the organization’s ability to carry out its mission.

Oxhorn. I have went over the official biography of "NATE" He and Roger Maxson the Founder of BOSS lived around the same time PLUS he was a veteran of the Battle for Alaska it would not have been out of place for these two to meet! . My thought is What if Roger Maxson had served as the CO or the contemporary of NATE? It would give NATE a more legitimate claim than DANSE to the rank of ELDER. There has to be a a larger reason why they MADE him 200 years old and a WAR VETERAN.
When I first saw the Sole survivor was a VETERAN and saw the BOSS in this I was asking myself if this will play into the story line. Seeing this and the posibility has confirmed my theory. I'm hoping that someone else can see the viability of this Theorem.

Seriously the concept of the Sole Survivor COMING BACK 200 years later to FIX the Brotherhood of Steel. I felt that this is COMPLETELY unexplored. If they could at least have shown a FLASHBACK that the SOLE SURVIVOR had met or even served with the ORIGINAL MAXON or even BEEN HIS COMMANDING OFFICER he would be the one person to fully UNITE the BROTHERHOOD of Steel. There has to be a reason why they made NATE a Veteran Background and NORA a Lawyer. Giving them a life 200 yeas ago has to have a reason right? PM me sometime and lets talk about this. If you wish.

I know I'm late to this party, but I agree as well. I usually choose a separate faction per play-through, but in general when I saw the opening and heard about the SS's military background I assumed you could bring it into play with the brotherhood. I had also hoped the female SS could use her lawyer training to have extra negotiation dialogs (would have made choosing male or female survivors mean something). As it stands, using a past connection to the original Maxson would have made for the perfect segway into challenging him, though I think it would be more appropriate to spare him and keep him alive for his knowledge and experience. His views became to fanatical, he lost sight of the goals, by getting to caught up in his elitism. The SS's experiences before the bombs fell would serve to unify the brotherhood, remind them that while humanity has to be careful with and keep an eye on technology, its was ultimately the decisions of humans and humans alone that caused the downfall. Hmm but I guess that's a speech for another time. Like I said, I do think the military background is a disappointing untapped opportunity.

Not really. You don't get to just walk up to the Elder, say "Let's fight right now.", shoot him and be done with it. You are officially challenging the Elder to a fight, meaning you get to use the equipment you want to use and he is given the time to use the equipment he wants to use, then both of you fight 1 on 1 while the other soldiers watch to confirm the challenge was legitimate.
So if this ending was implemented the right way you would most likely face off against an Elder Maxson using Last Judgement and his Elder Paint Power Armor on the Prydwen.

The Brotherhood doesn't have any human gods. Their "deity" is their military structure and this the litany that dictates how this structure is supposed to work. You follow your superiors orders, your superior follows his superiors orders and that one in turn follows the next person above etc. The only thing that can go above this direct following of orders is the very mission you were sent out for and if you're sure your superior is not beneficial to that mission you have official ways of challenging it and leading the mission to success in his stead.
The mission in the Commonwealth was to find the supposed technical threat and stop it, which effectively means the destruction of the institute (which is different from the destruction of everything the institute ever created). While in the middle of a war against the Institute Maxson chooses to make yet another enemy in the Railroad (eventhough the Railroad is effectively fighting the exact same enemy), he then chooses to reactivate a robot meant to fire off nuclear bombs at a rapid pace (what happened to "keeping technology in check?") and, after finding potentially fake information about one of his highest ranking (and as far as the Commonwealth area goes, one of the most geographically experienced) Paladins he does not choose to imprison him and verify the information but instead asks to immediately kill him, causing unrest among all those Knights that still respect Danse and thus not only weakening his chapters military structure but also killing troop motivation.
It makes a lot of sense to at that point say "This guy is unhinged and he is losing us the war by spreading us too thin and killing our own people. I'll officially challenge him in accordance with the litany and take over in order to lead his mission to success."

I prefer the normal ending. Not because I agree with every decision Maxon makes or like how all the situations and quests turn out, but because I accept that not all options and outcomes in the game are perfect and it's this disagreement on some points with the faction at large is the imperfection that makes it more believable and immersive. If you want a simple, straightforward "good" faction you go for Minutemen, they listen to you and mostly agree with your choices (unless you go evil of course). The rest of the factions throw something in questionable in and you can't just magically fix everything by taking control (you do become the boss of the Institute though at the end but that's at the end of the game don't change everything overnight). Granted we don't know how much you would be able to change as an Elder (say spare the Railroad despite them attacking your forces ?) so perhaps the Brotherhood would still keep some of it's own character. Personally I wish only for being able to talk Maxon into capturing the Railroad leaders instead of killing them, convince him to destroy only the Synth production line while leaving Gen3s under observation and using the Institute base for manufacturing new medicine, ammo and radiation free food for the Brotherhood and distribution across the Commonwealth.
If I was the typical member of the BoS and followed Maxon for years like some sort of hero I would take the Sole Survivor and throw him overboard for the audacity of gunning down the Elder in some sort of hostile takeover. The only way to gain the support of the grunts would be having Maxon's support after his defeat.

Even if you do take over, the Brotherhood is still flawed. At it's heart, the Brotherhood can never accept that synths are people. They still demand tribute from farms. They still wish to commit genocide against the super mutants and ghouls. They don't issue the evacuation order when destroying the Institute and instead commit genocide on them too. If you were to not do any of these things, another Paladin would challenge you as Elder since you aren't upholding the Brotherhood's code, or a splinter faction would form like the Outcasts in FO3. And when you die, whether by getting killed or from old age, the Brotherhood will then go back to their old ways. There is no way to "fix" the Brotherhood, or any other faction, accept the Minutemen and possibly the Institute, if you want to handwave that after you become the leader of the Institute that you would put an end to Father's cruel experiments on the people of the Commonwealth and stop focusing on synths and more on technology that could rebuild society, although you can't actually do this in-game. The Brotherhood was founded on the protocols that Maxon was trying to uphold. Even if you did manage to change the East Cost Brotherhood, the West Coast would still cling to the same protocols and banish the East Coast eventually. Anyone who knows anything about the lore would always be wary of the Brotherhood, because they have always been the way portrayed in FO4. Hating anybody but themselves having technology, taking it by force much of the time (which is where Maxon is actually kind of progressive compared to his West Coast brothers), genocidal towards ghouls and super mutants, and they've always seen other wastelanders as sub-human. Hell, many West Coast members of the BOS would question Maxon's decision to take on outsiders at all. In any game taking place in the area of the NCR, if you try to join the Brotherhood, they send you on a suicide mission to retrieve a piece of tech from a heavily irradiated area, expecting you never to return.
I think there is a possibility that Bethesda could have used to become Elder that would have actually been really cool if they actually did it, in hindsight. Nate was alive before the bombs fell and participated in the Battle of Alaska. Maxon (as in the Maxon that founded the Brotherhood after the bombs fell) was also a member of the military and probably also participated in Alaska. What if Nate and that Maxon were old war buddies who fought together in Alaska? That would give Nate at least a legitimate claim as Elder, having been friends with the first High Elder of the Brotherhood.

here's my suggestion for the upcoming update for this mod:
so after when you tell Maxson to spare Danse, he is disappointed that you made this choice, but Danse, out of his own voice, challenged Maxson to settle this dispute as written in the Brotherhood Litany; combat. but Danse said that this will be settled at the Boston Airport, where everyone will be watching. Maxson gets angry, but he agrees to meet Danse and you at the Airport as "he is looking forward to making you and Danse disappear". Maxson then leaves with his Vertibird. Danse tells you to meet him at the airport to show everyone that Maxson is fanatical and he is wrong about killing off one of his best soldiers just because he is a synth. when you reached the Airport, many Brotherhood soldiers are watching Danse and Maxson, anticipating for a fight to ensue. it appears that Maxson has brought some backup with him to overpower Danse, along with his power armor and Final Judgement. Maxson then sees you, giving you an ultimatum whether you're still part of the Brotherhood or you're just caring for a machine. Danse convince you to help him take down Maxson and his backup he brought.
if you choose to side with Danse, you and Danse have to kill Maxson and his backup. after killing them, the audience is shocked, but Danse tells them the truth about Maxson and his heart and mind still belongs to the Brotherhood even though he was a synth. Danse then declared you the new Elder of the Brotherhood of Steel. everyone now supports Danse and you.
if you choose to side with Maxson, it would just be the same ending as executing Danse at Listening Post Bravo; you, Maxson and his backup easily kill Danse. Maxson says that this is an abomination of what the Institute can do, and he will never allow synths to be in the Brotherhood, regardless of their rank or respect. Maxson then orders everyone to return to their duties and you to return to the Prydwen to talk to him.

Hold the phone. If you don't send Danse away or something, Elder Maxson never gives you the rank of Sentinel, and because of that, you never get a jetpack. So first you should become Sentinel, then a few moments later, challenge elder Maxson, kill him, so the Brotherhood soldiers don't become hostile and everything can end without a huge death count. You order the troops that Paladin Danse should be able to join the brotherhood, and Strong and other companions that are non-human have the choice to join the Brotherhood, either by choice, or by you convincing them. Then, you are able to spare the Railroad, blow up the Institute, and you can add the Minutemen as a special unit in the Brotherhood. (Go to the super duper mart in Lexington! They only took 4 casualties!) also, by this time the Minutemen have become strong enough and become a fighting force against the remaining synths and FERAL ghouls as well as HOSTILE Super mutants and maybe Deathclaws. So that is how I think the mod should play out! Leave a like on this comment if you agree with me 👍🏻

Ox...you might want to revisit this mod; it may have been updated since you made this vid. I just finished playing through it, choosing to let Danse and Maxson fight between themselves. I had to go up to the Prydyn, talk with a person who's in charge of the Litany, and then was directed to go to Fort Strong. Danse and Maxson battle, Danse wins, and I was able to get Maxson's Legendary Gatling Laser, Final Judgement, and the kick-ass power armor he wore to the battle. Other than that, it went the way your video documented it. One amazing mod!

The person who lost everything friends, family, his/her entire life before the war and yet still they fight for one end goal. To fully restore Peace in the Commonwealth.
That is the title of my Fallout 4 Character. The Shrouder of the Mechanist was like meant to be The Silver Shroud part of that storyline where the Mechanist can be stopped without bloodshed and can be recruited to a Settlement.

The conversation takes place at the Bunker as normal, but then everyone travels separately to a new basement area in Fort Strong where Danse(or you) face off in a 1-1 battle. You get to loot his power armor, battlecoat, and Final Judgement.

Honestly I feel it was for the best. It would feel too much like Skyrim, where you become leader of every faction. Plus I like Danse having the whole "struggling with his identity" issue. I always thought it gave him more depth and a chance to discover himself. But, that's just what I think. Of course I'll probably be down voted into Oblivion for saying I actually prefer Arthur being elder over my character.

That's a matter of Opinion. The lore they put in place fucks Fallout 3's lore hard and rough of the BoS. The Lyon's family lineage was killed off in horseshit fashion if you read the datalogs on the Prydwen, meaning the tough blonde who gives the Lone Wanderer shit when they first meet and seems to form feelings for him/her later besides immense respect for all they've done, couldn't continue the mission of having her faction acting like heavy-tech and heavily-armed Minutemen. Nope we get fucked cause a heart-broken edgelord named Maxon takes Lyon's place as Elder after her.
