    Used PAM sprays to fry. Never ate butter. Anyhow for all my due diligence I’m now obese. I’ve read your book and try but since I’m insulin resistant weight doesn’t come off very easy especially at my age 76. I do intermittent fasting thanks to you. I haven’t given up.

    One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that the 70's was when more and more mothers began entering the work force. It used to be unusual for a mother (especially of younger children) to work outside the home so they had time to cook more natural, home made meals. Now they are usually expected to both earn $ and "keep house", even if they have a working spouse. And it's even harder for single parents. I don't know how they do it! The fast food drive thru and convenience food trend came to us because of those modern pressures.

      They were more likely to garden and can their own food. A homemaker 's work is varied. There were less of the injuries of repetitive factory and office movements.
      Children were outside more, as many mom's were around to supervise. Women had more connection , friendship and peers. Kids played imaginative roll- playing games and sports. Things were not perfect, but there was a greater potential for health.

      @@hermesliteratus882 I completely agree with you. Sadly the 'profit at all costs' corrupt reality of today means that a complete ban is, unfortunately unrealistic.
      Fortunately we still have free will and access to good quality, healthy products and (of course) fasting in all its forms. I'm sure that we can individually make intelligent choices for great health outcomes. (However it would be nice to see them banned).

      @@Roseworthy6 The free will argument is, no offense meant, nonsense. Consider the opiate epidemic that developed in North America some years ago: we did not deal with it by calling on its victims to exercise their "free will" but severely restricted their use in medicine. Processed foods are DESIGNED to cause food addiction in consumers, something well known and physiologically understood in the medical and research community, so there's no excuse for allowing food producers to continue damaging our health.

    • @Roseworthy6
      @Roseworthy6 Před 2 lety +1

      @@yelenaangeleski3354 I completely agree with you, it is a very sad state of affairs and food addiction is certainly a very real and serious issue. The studies that have shown that sugar is more addictive than cocaine (in rats) are horrifying, and we know that sugar is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to unhealthy, addictive additives in processed foods - absolutely disturbing. I just feel that with the current state of things, realistically I cannot foresee these companies being banned or even heavily regulated (as they should be). Therefore my suggestion was solely based on a possibly realistic and practical solution of government greed (taxation) and the health systems need (funding) and the hope that with knowledge (like Dr Fungs fabulous free content) that people are empowered to make healthy choices freely for healthy outcomes. I had absolutely no intention of victim blaming and I apologise if my comment was perceived that way. I only wish the best for everyone that is struggling with these issues and success on their journey to health.

      I think the government kinda falls in the middle of things. They encourage some healthy foods but at the same time, turn a blind eye to some foods that are "bad". To be honest, even if they encourage healthier habits, most people would not listen. People eat whatever they want, what they feel tastes good. It's their right they claim. For example, my local county government head wanted to replace the junk food in the vending machines at their office with healthier options. It didn't happen because their own employees complained and say it's their right to keep eating junk food. They protest against the healthier options. Just saying, it's not always the government's fault for everything but they do have a hand in allowing those companies create so many ultra processed junk foods and even allow it to be in school lunches. But then again I feel it's too late to make change because when Michelle Obama tried to implement healthier options in schools, there was so much waste because kids didn't like the food; they are already used to their junk food

I myself used to eat a ton of junk years ago and I also knew about how healthy food is better. However I only changed my ways when I had a strong enough "why" or reason to change. I changed my diet due to acne & now I reap the benefits of better energy, looking younger & etc. I wish I had eaten healthy my whole life then I would've probably never had to deal with severe acne & high body fat % (24%). People just need a strong enough why which will be life changing for them to change their diet.
