Tucker was 34 when he fought Lewis & was coming off wins over McCall & Norris, which is what gave him his mandatory position, he wasn't quite the fighter who'd faced Tyson but was still a formidable opponent, whereas Lewis was green and a work in progess & hadn't yet developed into the fighter he was to become, they were both at different stages of their careers.
The American public are what's known throughout the entire boxing world as a nation of casuals. Mike Tyson, a former boxing great? No! Just no no no and NO!! Just how disrespectful is that to all the real great fighters we have really seen?, it also only shows them up as casuals that actually really don't understand the great sport we call boxing. What are you talking about? Mike Tyson isn't fit to be mentioned in the same breath as Lenox Lewis, how insulting is this comment really?
Talk TRUTH for once in your lives Yanks. Since when did ANYONE call a boxer who was known to have ducked both the best boxers of his era, ever be seen as a great former boxer? Tyson ducked both Lewis while he was Champion, and he ducked Riddick Bowe completely. How can he be a great while knowing that? Tyson ducked both Lewis while he was Champion, and he ducked Riddick Bowe completely. Yet both of whom nobody could even begin to argue with, were much better than Mike Tyson ever was. And Tyson ducked both??. How can you call him anything like great knowing that? It's commonly known as bullshit.
On the contrary, Lewis had just knocked out Ruddock inside two rounds, who at the time was the WBC mandatory & was awarded the belt when Bowe refused to fight him, his first defence was against Tony Tucker, another mandatory, who was given his shot based on wins over McCall & Norris, Lewis was never a known ducker & would always try to make fights.

Tucker did a good job but he really mailed in that last round, your last round with the champ and you give up. I don't get it, you were going to lose by points or knock out either way so he might as well went for it.
That one commentator was either ignorant to what a "blow to the top of the head" is in boxing or just reluctant as hell to give Lewis any credit for the win. Both commentators were quick to piss on either fighter though.
They were both at different stages of their careers, Tucker was an experienced fighter, approaching the veteran stage whereas Lewis was green and inexperienced., Tucker regarded Lewis as being the best fighter he faced during his pro career.

He is the most underrated fighter I can think of.
If it wasn't two losses to Tyson and Lewis by decision everyone would know who he was.

How is it Lennox is inexperience when he knocked him down two times?
I first saw this fight and i think this fight went to Round 8 it was Amazing
Went the distance.
Neither Tyson or Lewis could finish Tucker.
Tucker is the best
He was certainly a good fighter back in the day.
@@BoxingFightsByGaryWilson OK.
This fight should have been for the Vacant WBC tittle. Didn’t like how they awarded Lewis with the belt 🥊
Lewis was the WBC mandatory based on his strong win over Ruddock & Bowe's dodge of Lewis appeared so blatant at the time, they figured it was the right move, though Tucker had an argument as he became Lewis' mandatory based on wins over McCall & Norris fighting for the vacant title would also have been a good call.
Bello molto bello
For those who talk shit on Tyson and his caliber of opponents, this is the one that shuts them up. Lewis couldn't knock out a much older version than what Tyson fought. Tucker took both the distance. He was truly a reflection of just how tough these "lesser" fighters really were. Tyson and Lewis did not have an easy time, they were just superior fighters who made it look easy.
Do you Tyson dickriders need to infest every boxing video?
Against Tyson Tucker was in far better shape.
@@FFMM7yeah well Tysons crack head sparing partner knocked out Lennox Lewis.
Early Tyson not only united the belts and cleaned up the division while holyfield and Lennox Lewis were little league he also threw and landed more punches than anyone.
He was extremely hard to hit while being extremely aggressive.
Younger Tyson under cus and Rooney was there to kill, had the speed , power and the best defense.
After getting with king it was all over.

Tony Tucker is like a football team who play well but doesn't score, he went too far with Lewis and Tyson but he didn't punch in a way that make him a champ
Yes i saw Tucker as a bit player supreme, despite winning the IBF belt knocking out Douglas, he would give a good account but tended not to win.
Just arsenal
Interesting bout
Boxing is cooolll
That was Lewis Day!Tucker did very well too.it was the judges job also to give credit to whom credit is due.thank you for another boxing episode.God Bless you all.
Tucker was still decent when Lewis faced him & capable of giving him a stern test, which is what he did. Lewis was so convincing against Ruddock, we assumed he would do the same with Tucker & when he didn't, it was viewed as disappointing but looking back in hindsight, it was an encouraging performance.

Nice video.
Cheers, many thanks. I have numerous fights on the channel featuring the careers of Lewis & Tucker.
Who are these commentators folks?
Ferdie Pacheco, Ali's cornerman & physician & Bobby Czyz, former IBF light heavy & WBA cruiserweight champion.
Thank you very much. I found Pacheco to be insightful, authoritative and very conscientious with this commentary. I struggle to understand the hate for him and Czyz. They were bang on with everything they said. Going to swat up in Pacheco. Great character.
Un incontro molto bello combattuto fortemente complementi a tutti e 2 un complemento speciale al vincitore

Lewis is always so relaxed. This fight shows the future GOAT in the making.
Tony Tucker one tough fighter, even tho they are loses, you get my respect going 12 rounds with a Prime Mike Tyson and 12 rounds with Lennox Lewis.
Tucker was a little better than was given credit, he was a very competent fighter during the late 80's & early 90's, capable of giving anyone a hard fight. Lewis was much maligned for this performance which was a touch harsh as it wasn't going to be an easy fight for him.

As good as Lewis became, if it wasn't for the poor state of the HW division, he may have well 'disappeared.'
The heavyweight division during the 90's was golden, we had five potential world beaters & a who's who of decent fringe contenders, all of whom had a story to tell & were capable of winning a world title.
Lewis was still a work in progress at this stage of his career & went on to become a better fighter.
@@SteveJones-tw5ss The Heavyweights of the '90s were inconsistent. It says something when the man to hold the title the longest was a Boxing star from the '70s, who was in his forties.

Iron Mike at his best would of got to lennox here.
Lewis was still a work in progress & green at this point of his career.
@@peterhaye8537 Yes. Lennox was very good as a newly WBC champion. But I feel Iron Mike when he fought Tony Tucker 6 years previous was possibly sharper being 28 against Iron Mike as opposed to 34 against Lennox. I just feel Iron Mike would of got to Lennox as opposed.
@@peterhaye8537 I meant to say Tucker was better at 28 rather than 34. Riddick Bowe wanted no part of Lennox then. So Tucker fought Lennox instead. Lennox from 1995_2003 was at his all time best.
@@peterhaye8537 I simply don't think Iron Mike Tyson 1987 would of coped against Lennox in 2000. Lennox was too big and too strong for a peak Iron Mike. Ft6,5 v ft5,10 looking at these 2 is only 1 way and it wouldn't of been for Tyson.

Lewis was green & relatively inexperienced at this stage of his career, he was 22-0 & still amateurish & yet to mature into the complete fighter he did under Steward, i would pick Tyson 86/88 to defeat this version of Lewis.
@@peterhaye8537 yeah same here
@@peterhaye8537 I'd give Tyson a 'puncher's chance', but Lewis did demolish Ruddock, which Tyson had trouble doing. Tyson of course just had the speed and power game, no actual jab. It's definitely not for certain he'd have beaten a younger Lewis. For sure as their careers went along Tyson lost a bit of speed and didn't have much to fall back on; Lewis just got better and better under Steward.

Give it up for Mike Tyson & Roy Jones 2 great fighters putting on a show for us . As for this event hats off to both chaps who are now legends .

Lewis took on mostly inactive fighters those days
On the contrary, Lewis had just knocked out Ruddock inside two rounds, who at the time was the WBC mandatory & was awarded the belt when Bowe refused to fight him, his first defence was against Tony Tucker, another mandatory, who was given his shot based on wins over McCall & Norris, Lewis was never a known ducker & would always try to make fights.

The tucker that fought Tyson would have beaten this version of Lewis
They were both at different stages of their careers, Tucker was an experienced fighter, approaching the veteran stage whereas Lewis was green and inexperienced., Tucker regarded Lewis as being the best fighter he faced during his pro career.
Lewis was inexperienced & not quite the complete article at this stage of his career, at times he looked impressive & explosive yet unconvincing at others, he improved under Steward & became a more complete fighter.
