  • Hi everyone! in this video I show you how to make a plaster press mold. It's very easy and the resulting pieces are quite neat and professional, it's really worth it.
    MATERIALS I USED:
    -Plastic container
    -Cooking oil
    -Pottery plaster "Betalfa" (In case you can't get the one indicated you can use a common one, but the mold won't be as resistant)
    -Water
    -Clay (I used a low temperature clay formulated for modeling and throwing)
    -Wood rolling pin
    -Rods
    -Rib
    -Brush
    -Sponge
    -Spoon

    I know you are using regular clay, but would this technique also work for air dry clay?

    • @UmiCeramics
      @UmiCeramics  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi! I think it would work in the same way, but I'm not completely sure, it would be prudent to test previously if the air dry clay does not stick to the plaster

    • @MabruBlack
      @MabruBlack Před 2 lety

      It would work but you have to seal the plaster with resin or something similar. Plaster is porous, so the air dry clay will stick unless is sealed. Once sealed, you should use some mold release agent and you’ll be good to go.

  • @Sophie_519
    @Sophie_519 Před 2 lety

    Just curious… Why can’t you have used to original bowl to form the clay? Was the plaster necessary?

    • @UmiCeramics
      @UmiCeramics  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi, to be able to use the original bowl you have to cover it with a cloth or plastic (so the clay does not stick to it) which leaves marks and deforms the final result. In addition, the plaster has the quality of absorbing water from the clay, making it possible for the piece to be hard in just a few minutes.

      @UmiCeramics  Před rokem +2

      Hi, clay sticks to plastic surfaces, that's why molds are made of plaster, or maybe wood! In addition, the porosity of the plaster absorbs the humidity of the clay and the piece dries in a matter of minutes
