- Hi everyone! in this video I show you how to make a plaster press mold. It's very easy and the resulting pieces are quite neat and professional, it's really worth it.
MATERIALS I USED:
-Plastic container
-Cooking oil
-Pottery plaster "Betalfa" (In case you can't get the one indicated you can use a common one, but the mold won't be as resistant)
-Water
-Clay (I used a low temperature clay formulated for modeling and throwing)
-Wood rolling pin
-Rods
-Rib
-Brush
-Sponge
-Spoon

Your work is great Congratulations
Gracias
Hola! Que bueno saber que son de ayuda!
How beautiful 👍👍
Try adding gypsum to the water while stirring, there will be fewer lumps :)
Thank you so much for your help ,I can make it easier now.
Well done 👍✅
Very good video, thank you 🎉
Thank you so much for sharing. How would you make an inverted mould?
Inspiring!

Me encantó.
I'm learning a lot with your videos, thank you so much !
So happy to read this!
Thank you! Loved this calm and beautiful video. Lovely instruction. Nice and neat bowl too. May I ask how you clean the plaster of your plastic mold and your spoon?
Thank you ♥! Good question! I always clean my tools and plastic containers before the plaster dries, using water and washing detergent. You can also wait for it to dry completely to remove it, but in this way plastic containers and tools tend to get scratched and damaged
Muchas gracias😁😁
Graciassss!!!!⚘
omg i loved the video, im just starting and i want to ask where do you get those tools??
So nice ...❤
Thank you!
Does it have to go in a kiln next? Love your channel.
Hello Umi, I love your videos! Your work with clay is truly inspiring. I’ve noticed the cloth you use on your table when rolling out clay and I’m curious about it. Could you share what type of cloth it is? It seems really useful for clay work. Thank you for sharing your amazing videos! 😊🙏🏼
Ooh thank you so much! ❤️❤️
I use a very thin canvas, it has almost no texture. I've used this type of fabric for years and I like it because it doesn't leave visible marks on the clay and it's easy to wash and clean
@@UmiCeramics Wonderful! Thank you so much for your answer I really do appreciate it! 🙂🙂
If you don't mind me asking, where do you purchase your products from?
Would you like to make some ceramics with the cracked surface glace, pls.
I loved it what did you spray on table towards end of video and what were you doing when you were sliding bowl over table that you just sprayed? Thanks, Paula
Hello! It's water and it's a quick way to level out the uneven edges of the plate
How long does clay last in the kiln?
Thank you so much! I’ve always felt a bit intimidated to make my own molds, but you made it look so easy. So excited to try! 💐🤍
Hi! I'm so glad to read that this tutorial has encouraged you to give it a try! ♥!
Wow..

Is this gypsum or cement?
what are you using to cover your table with? is it a canvas?
Hi, yes, it is canvas
@@UmiCeramics icic. Thanks for the reply!! 🤍
Do you buy your white clay online? Please provide the link
Hi, sometimes I buy it, sometimes I make it myself. The one I'm using in this video is manufacturated by a company from Argentina: "Arcillas Del Sur"
what surface do you use to roll out clay? Is that muslin?
Hi, it is canvas
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hii... Doesn't this needs firing to make it tough?? And if not then which clay are you using so that it doesn't need to fire? 🤔
Pretty sure she used normal clay, not the air dry one so she is going to fire it later
I know you are using regular clay, but would this technique also work for air dry clay?
Hi! I think it would work in the same way, but I'm not completely sure, it would be prudent to test previously if the air dry clay does not stick to the plaster
It would work but you have to seal the plaster with resin or something similar. Plaster is porous, so the air dry clay will stick unless is sealed. Once sealed, you should use some mold release agent and you’ll be good to go.
Just curious… Why can’t you have used to original bowl to form the clay? Was the plaster necessary?
Hi, to be able to use the original bowl you have to cover it with a cloth or plastic (so the clay does not stick to it) which leaves marks and deforms the final result. In addition, the plaster has the quality of absorbing water from the clay, making it possible for the piece to be hard in just a few minutes.
@@UmiCeramics Thankyou very much for your response. I understand now, I am new to pottery, in fact I just started a succulent garden, and they charge a bazillion for inch clay pots etc, so I only just started to explore making my own.. thanks for the informative video
@@Sophie_519 A succulent garden? how beautiful! I am sure your pots will not only be beautiful but also special because they will be made by your own hands, and that's priceless ♥
Come back please

😮is that cement o what please help
Great video, but this is a drape/hump mold not a press mold.
Never add water to plaster always add Plaster to water.
hey actually thanks for the info but could u please also tell why we shouldn't add water to the plaster ?
@@someonedumb_probably for the same reason you add dry to wet when baking: it prevents lumps of dry spots in your final mixture.
@@Hydrantchan ahh thanks a lot for helping! :D
Bonjour. ☝
grams and dimensions;
Why wouldn’t you just roll out the clay and put over the plastic mold in the first place instead of making a clay mold of the same plastic mold to use?
Hi, clay sticks to plastic surfaces, that's why molds are made of plaster, or maybe wood! In addition, the porosity of the plaster absorbs the humidity of the clay and the piece dries in a matter of minutes
Muito trabalho para pouco efeito
