If you want to know how to change startup image on Toyota 4runner then this simple video will explain it to you. It's very easy. In fact I never heard of it before and then just a few minutes later I had changed my startup and off screen image to my own customized images. I believe this will work on any toyota entune radio but you will have to take a look at your specific model.

Update I did it 1000x480 that way you cover the full screen in width and there is still some black for the height so I guess you can go 1000x600 or 550

It’s only work with your 4 runner my 2022 Trd pro doesn’t have that feature
My 2020 TRD Off Road doesnt even have the option to change any images...that sucks!

Awesome video! However, my 2015 4Runner says it doesn't recognize my usb. I only have the 2 files (StartupImage and DisplayOffImage). Any ideas?
Not recognizing the thumb drive is tricky. Although you did say you have only two FILES. Did you mean files specifically or folders? Slight difference and you may be using the terms interchangeably. But you would think thumb drive would still recognize it. However make sure you have two FOLDERS on the drive with those names and then your jpg files is in those folders.
Incidentally on my 2017 i can also play music from my usb. Its not great because i cant find a great way to create albums so it basically just plays all my songs from first to last. I mention this because you could try adding a mp3 file to see if you can access that thumb drive from the radio source. Then you know it sees the actual drive. Which is another good question. Does your radio have an option for choosing usb as a source?

Yes i believe it does. I think they share the same system. You can easily check by following the steps on the radio to see if you can get to those menus. If so then you will know. All youll need then is the flash drive to hold the pictures.
I have a 2017 Toyota 4Runner Limited, i have done everything even saving the jpg images into the specific folders that are case sensitive and still it says that it cannot recognize my USB. I had went and bought a USB 2.0 FD, plugged it in before leaving the stores parking lot to check that it would recognize the drive, got home and transferred over the folders and now it says it cannot read the new USB. I am really struggling to want to keep buying USB flash drives to get this to work. Please help if you can. Thank you.

Happy Tuesday, will I am not having any luck adding this to my screen. Have no idea what I’m doing wrong. Do you think I have to log in to my Toyota entune app to do this? The only thing that keeps showing for me is just the Toyota symbol. Boring 😬
Oh no. I don’t think it matters about the etune app. Did you make sure you created the two specific folders put JPGs into those. From what i understand they must have the two folders exactly as named. Then make sure the JPGs are within the parameters of size
Can you tell if the files load or not? Once they load you should definitely see the other files.
@@HappyTrekkers they appear to be on the flash drive. It’s the picture size, I’m assuming it’s the size of the pictures. One is 469kb and the other one is 531kb. Now I have no clue what all that means. I can delete them and put them back on. I just had to take a break. It was just making me frustrated 😀😬 thanks

Do you just turn it on or do you start the engine?
It will work just like normal. Meaning as i type this im stopped at a gas station. I turned the key far enough to turn the radio on but not the engine and the pic of my wife and i flashes up. Then it goes away as the rest of the navigation and radio screens come on.
But then if you hit apps it brings up various things like NAVIGATION, AUDIO, PHONE, etc. click on SET UP and then click oN SCREEN OFF. that will pull up whichever pic you have programmed. That will stay on while you are driving.

its sad that I have a 2022 model and the options are not there .... thought it would have gotten better .... best thing to do at this point is to swap it out for an android deck
Yes unfortunately when they went to the new version it lost this functionality. It sucks. Some people have swapped out for the android decks but i havent tried that. Though that would be really nice.
This doesn't seem to work with 2022 4Runner Limited
Ive gotten that fed back for other 2022. It seems toyota changed their radio this year. Im not sure if all models across the company have the new ones or not. I also have a video on updating the navigation and that seems to no longer work either. They have removed to SD card.
Its too bad because this was a neat feature that most people don’t know about.

I’m not sure. I have a 2017 and it works fine. But I’ve had some viewers tell me it didn’t work on their newer model. As I recall they couldn’t see their usb drive at all. If you have a thumb drive try it and see if it will even see the drive. Hopefully it does work. It’s a small thing but it’s nice having my own pics there.

No that is odd. Its looking for a usb so that part is good. I assume your pc recognized the USB because you loaded the pictures. Make sure you create the right folder names though that should not result in the msg you are getting.

Doesn't work on my 2016. I was told on the 4 Runner forum that the thumb drive must be formatted to FAT 16 and that only worked with drives that are 8 GB or less.
I will have to check my thumbdrive. I cant tell you what the size it off the top of my head. It was just a drive i had in a drawer. I certainly didnt format it specifically for this application. Now you have me very curious.
Same I have tried in my 2020 4runner am not able to change it or get the settings
@@JM-lj9me at some point they did change but im not sure what year. I still can’t figure out what was the cause of the problem with the guys 2016. Mine is 17 and you see how easily it worked

They changed the screen/entertainment system in 2020
Doesn't work with 2021 models
