- The Lamborghini Countach is a super car icon. Everyone had a poster of the Futuristic Lamborghini countach on there wall in the 80s. Making an appearance in movies like cannonball run and wolf of wallstreet, the Lamborghini Countach with its exaggerated and in your face styling plus an unmistakable V12 rumble it remains an icon to this day.
This Lamborghini Countach lp400 S was one of 3 produced from the factory with the rear reflector that stretches the width of the car. it is also one of 85 series three Countach.
introduced in 1978 the Countach LP400 S sported large fender extensions and 345/35R15 rear tires, the biggest tire on a production car of that time. it also had an optional wing, that most people opted for, even though it decreased the performance of the car.

Despite being a Countach fanatic all my life I have NEVER ever seen that rear end!
same and it looks like a later "hi body" too
The rear wing only gave drag and no downforce at all, it just making the car looks fantastic.
peopple who drove a Countach past 200kmph
know the wing is useful
@@roverwaters3875 No. It was specifically made so it would not give downforce because Countach, like many cars of that era, already suffer from front end lift. I don't care about folklore or some proud owner who claims to feel it makes a difference. Lamborghini themselves say it was only made due to requests from clients after Cannon Ball movie and they did not want downforce. ( On that car they added the wings just to make it even wilder looking). This information has been verified by Harry Metcalf and Iain Tyrell amongst others so I'm inclined to believe them. But Lamborghini wanted to sell cars, so they gave in and added a wing that basically just looks cool and makes the car little bit slower (for those who wanted it).
@@TheRealCoyote lol
Countach at high speeds suffers from TOO MUCH downforce
so the wing counteracts that.
You need to inform yourself better
Harry Metcalf and Iain Tyrell are not test drivers.
Information is printed in magazines and books, testimonies by test drivers who drove the car to its limits.
Amateurs only know youtube and facebook.
You are an amateur...
@@roverwaters3875 too much downforce in a countach LOL. What have you been smoking. Can I have some too.
@@TheRealCoyoteexactly 😂
Rolling art I restored an 1986 Countach years ago. there just hard to get in and out of its truly a unique experience.
Which one did you have?
I can never see enough of these beautiful cars
Neither can we
Beautiful driver and best sportcar!
Learning about these cars is so awesome
Glad i can help!
Countach: the sexiest beast ever ❤️🥵❤️🥵❤️🥵
It is
Agreed 👍
I learned several things from this video. Loved
It. Too many boring reviews and this isn’t one of them
Magnificent. I am 59. When I was in college in Bloomington Indiana back in early 80s at Indiana University (IU), I could not even afford a Car and Driver magazine. I go to library and borrow the library Car and Driver magazine and read about this car sitting on the floor middle of book aisles and dream. What a magnificent vehicle and great great video. Mamma Mia. Many year later, I love cars and own beautiful Vettes and Mustangs, but this is where it all started.
Great review! I'll never get enough videos of the Countach.
She does have quite a special rear end! Great info and video, this channel needs more subs!!
Lovely car. I swear these videos get better every time. You're doing a great job Colleen. Thanks.
Thank you!
@@FerrarisOnline beautiful car
I agree
Thanks for the tour! Those were definitely "over the top"! Still looks good almost 50 years later from prototype.
Hard to believe they are that old already
There are 8 distinct runs of the countach not counting the prototype.
LP400 is the initial run no fender flares

LP400 S Series 2
LP400 S Series 3 (this car is a series 3)

Great video! Some interesting facts about this particular Countach.
I just know that Countach has single rear end reflector. Thank you for the information miss. Great review.
I think I rode in this car in The paddock of Laguna Seca back in the early 1993. same spec with the back end reflector. Or maybe it was one of the other 2??
Either way great memory of my 1st ride in the Countach!!
I doubt this tart has driven it further!
I love the excitement in your voice. Nice to hear you bubble about a car you love.
Colleen, the best part of this video was where you showed us how you reverse. Very cute, thanks.
I thought, i knew all about the Countach. But i‘ve never seen those taillights. Very interesting. Thank you!
Fantastic video thank you 🏁
Lamborghini Countach es uno de mis carros favoritos de toda la historia. Excelente vídeo. Saludos desde México.
That was an awesome video! Learned allot, thank you.
The most iconic car of the 80's! I would take it over any new Lamborghini today!
Thank you for the review , I was fortunate enough to drive in a few , back when I was 17 years of age there was a dealer Meadowlands car imports , that I worked in and I was in my glory unfortunately the owner died and the wife sold the busy and property and was no longer A Lamborghini dealer among other exotic car said he had , those few years made me car crazy of what I am today , your videos bring lots of memories back even on the GTO Ferrari one of my favorites
Glad to bring back some good memories. 😀
The Lamborghini Countach is my favorite sport car.
You obviously love this car. That makes me.love the video, thank you Colleen. Best video so far.
That rear reflector looks like the prototype! So cool
You love this car. Just.perfect.
Fascinating videos ! The fuel filler cap in there ! Door locks ! Reversing !Beautiful car but bizarre !
Fantastic video you're a natural
Just as Danielle Adetto said in the '87 interview:
"A beautiful woman, and a Countach"
Great video, thank you. Countach...simply awesome ❤
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
@@FerrarisOnline keep up the good work! There are many of us that love the channel
Love your vids!!! Lovely car, loveliest presenter!
Thanks!
Hello from Ireland ☘️Great Video as always! The all time iconic poster car although I prefer the countach without the wing. That continuous reflector at the back looks awesome. Looking forward to your next video 👍
Thanks, we should have another on out in the next week!
Excellent work.
Really nice leather! On the interior too 👌
I love these videos, its clear you have become really good at doing these too. I watched the Schumacher race car video and comparing it to this is night and day. I cant wait for more of these! Of course the irony there is I bet these now take longer to make since your production values are really good now. I really love the drone shots of you driving the car around.
Am I the only one who thought 1 of 3 meant there were going to be two more videos of this car? I caught it while watching the video that she was talking about the reflector panel. But I still catch myself looking to see if she has done another on the Countach.
Im in Love with this Car😍
Your are a great classic supercars presenter , keep up 👌
This is a epic car! you understand a lot about cars! thanks for the explanation
Sideswipe looks gorgeous
Great review on this car and the Testarossa Colleen, for me the Testarossa Is much easier to live with. Both are beautiful and had my chance to get a Countach once. I have owned a Testarossa for over 10 years and still love it.
¡Un bello e icónico auto, con una hermosa presentadora! ¡Saludos!
Sensational, but that huge reflector in between the rear tail light cluster is something I've NEVER seen before on any Countach and completely spoils the look from the rear IMO.
Comes with a spare Reflector and its uncomfortable, Love it ! LOL Great job on the video
I love the sound track of this video. I wish you had done a video of you just driving the car around town.
Great Vid!!
Thanks!
....and that rear reflector accentuates the rear design nicely.
Great information piece on the LP400 S! Our channel took one for a drive a few weeks ago. Keep up the good work
I think we need to see some more of the race cars in the back ground
When Lamborghinis were simply beautiful !
Even though I know it’s a really impractical car I would still love to own one. I own 3 Porsches and will trade them any day for a Countach!
It’s more practical than you’d think
Lançou a braba
I'm a Ferrari fan but I would rather drive a Countach than any other cars. I wouldn't care about its irks and quirks.
Thank you for a great review, as always.
Still a slick design!!!
It was the most outrageous car to ever exist. They get bashed by automotive journalists but I've talked to owners before and they refute just about all of their claims. Mechanically they were pretty solid. The switches were sourced by Fiat and they weren't that good but the engine and transmission were durable. I've seen three of them in my life and they give you a high that defies words.
The dream of every man. Lamborghini Countach and my dream is Colleen 😂 .Great video Colleen lovely car but I prefer the the early LP 400 but those are a million plus now
Bellissima!!
Great video, I wouldnt like to slip off the clutch while reversing
Thabks, Luckily its not uncompfortable to back up, just different so its not likely you would slip off the clutch. Also you can keep on foot over the brake while backing up in that position.
Damn she looks fine in this vid :D And the car looks ok too
Came for the car.... stayed for the car.
If there were only three of these cars made, i frickin saw one in the City of Orange at the Shell station (55fwy and Chapman Ave). It was a "Burgundy" color with Gold trim (including wheels). The one i saw also had the front wing as well. I was taken aback by the continuous tail light that i had never seen before or again. Thanks for answering my personal "wtf was that car i saw ten years ago?" question. It's because there are only three, dude haha!
The front mounted wing was designed to get around US import laws requiring a minimum front bumper height. So importers added the wings here in the US in order to sell in certain states. You most likely saw a different model countach
Nice on that
I think she is wrong about the fuel tanks though. They are connected between each other with a balance tube, so both tanks empty at the same time.
What a Hoot!! I like the way you had a giggle when backing it up!! Its an essential car to have driven in one's life!! They are a very extraordinary car for sure.
Yes, the wing. I know it divides opinion but let's not pretend it's anything other than a styling exercise. It has no effect on stability and is designed to be aerodynamically neutral to avoid moving the centre of pressure rearwards. There is therefore no downforce, just as well if you look at what it's screwed to. It does however add a fair bit of drag so if you're into bar room bragging rights you should know it takes about 15 mph off the top speed.
Thank you for highlighting this particular car. I'd never before seen even a picture of the 3 with the full-width reflector.
Good point on the fuel tanks. I've never driven a 400S but on checking I see it does not have a balance pipe between the tanks so if one runs empty the fuel pumps will start sucking air. They did change that for later cars!
This car looks really well presented. I hope its new owner also puts some good miles on it!
stating your opinions and guesses doesn't make you right...
The wing helped with stability over 200km/h speeds. Also it helped neutralize the inherent massive downforce of the front end at those high speeds, making the car steering possible at high speeds.
At over 200km/h with no wing you can't move the steering wheel because of the high front downforce.
You should read some road test from the period, from people who actually drove the cars to their limits.
@@roverwaters3875 Just going by Peter Dron, and his excellent book on the Countach, which also includes several period road tests. The give-away about the wing is that it wasn't attached to the car's frame. If it actually developed serious downforce it would buckle the boot lid.
@@timgosling6189 nobody said anything about the wing creating downforce.
key words are "stability" and "air brake" effect, which takes some of the heavy load from front tires.
@@roverwaters3875 I understand what you say, but I have never heard of this angle from any other source, including those who have taken them to their top speed. I have a quote from Piero Martini who demonstrated his 5000QV to 'Fast Lane' magazine for an article they wrote in Sep 1986. They took the car to approximately 195 mph over a measured kilometre and no handling problems were apparant. Asked why his car didn't have the wing Pierluigi described it as 'silly'.
LP400S is the be-all end-all for me. Especially an S2 lowbody.
Beautiful example. I dunno about the red detailing in the wheels, bit otherwise it's perfect.
This car is the dream of a generation. A design that still blows more minds than almost any other car.
s1 was a low body too....hi body came on the late late 400s ...this one looks like a hi body
@@Tommyblueeyes true this is a high body
Your videos are so amazing in production and the vehicles you review. You’re underrated.
Just a tip from a marketer. I think you should change your CZcams name to something more personalized and that is unique to you. I think it would bring a lot more traffic to your channel.👍🏼
Beautiful car and beautiful woman... perfect combination
Good lord she is Beautiful!!!
@ 6:38 - When it comes to good automotive styling, years are totally irrelevant.
Its either the sculptor is a good craftsman or not. To date, Bertone is the best
automotive sculptor Europe had ever produced.
Like many people I've been a Countach fan for decades, yet I never knew about the dual gas tanks that provide fuel at the same time! Everything new I learn about these cars just makes them so much more ludicrous.
There is a hose that connects the 2 tanks. You don't need to fill each separately.
Great video , love this car, proper super car , no compromise.
Today they drive easy , have computers on them. This is awkward , poor rear visibility, heavy clutch and looks awesome.
Forget what Jeremy Clarkson says this is the ultimate super car as it is a pin up.
It is like if went out with Super Model you would want her to be high manintance ,a bit rebellious etc that why they Super Models not just normal models. Modern cars are much faster but as soon as they made them to drive easy etc I lost interest in them
Thanks for the vid, doing some catch up on older videos. Any chance you can do a review on the original LP 400? I know especially rare here in North America, but would be awesome to see the differences and evolution. Thanks again really enjoying the channel.
Last year we did a video on a lp400 periscopio 😀 glad your enjoying the channel. 😀
@@FerrarisOnline I went back and watched, thanks
just to give some Reference to the tire size compared to other cars... the Bugatti Chiron has a 355 width tire in the back!! so almost the same as a modern day bugatti. thats insane
at 3:43 Cliff dr Newport Beach looked familiar and that yellow hummer is always parked there
The window opens just enough to slide a license and a ticket through it! 😀
The rear end is indeed very special
I’ve always wanted to know more about the LP400 S Series 3 cars, there’s not much on them. Never seen ‘full reflector’ rear end on a Countach before.
2:03 you said the wing added stability? I read that is was only for decorative purpose and did not help the performance of the car.
It is a commonly debated subject. The wing did increase stability, especially in the rear. Which did not really help the front end lift issues of the countach, infact it made it worse. The wing also decreased the power of the car. So while it did add stability it cause more harm than good.
@@FerrarisOnline good enough 👍
Yep, when making the videos, its really hoe far down the rabbits hole do we want to go ya know lol
Good for stability. Bad for top end speed
@@FerrarisOnline excuse me, but front end lift is not an issue on the Countach.
People who drove past 200km/h said the front is pushed so hard to the ground the steering becomes very hard.
You can try it...
2:08 true, the wing is useful
just also noticed this building where she is giving the interview about the car is on 16th this building used to be a gym I went to
Yep, we have had the buildings since the 80s and decides to move into one last time it became vacant.
What is that Ferrari in the background with the Plexi glass spoiler on it?
Yes it is. Its one of our racecars.
@@FerrarisOnline lol, I was asking what kind of Ferrari is it? It looks GTO ish.
Wow.
Actually the original wing did just the opposite, it made the front very loose. (which already was quirk of the Countach) The modified wing did absolutely nothing but slow the car down at high speed. It looks really cool though, I admit.
If we would be really picky ...
1. = The 1971 Geneva Countach prototype LP500, with a "steel plate" chassis (like the Urraco/Silhouette/Jalpa, Jarama, Espada). Also the Prototype had a "steel" body.
2.1. = The 1974 Countach LP400 Periscope. Now with a steel "tube frame" and "aluminium" body panels.
2.2. = The 1975 three "Walter Wolf" LP400, with wide body & huge rear wing.
3.1.1. = The 1978 LP400S "low roof & wide body" - inspired by the W.Wolf versions - and with "Bravo" wheels, a.k.a. "Series #1" (with small Stewart-Warner dashboard gauges).
3.1.2. = From 1979, still a "Series #1" with Bravo wheels, but now with bigger dashboard gauges.
3.2. = The 1979/1980 LP400S "Series #2", now with concave wheels (instead of the Bravo wheels from the series #1).
3.3. = The 1980 LP400S "Series #3", now with a "high roof" and modified ride-hight and reduced HP.
4.1. = The 1982 LP500S (or 5000S), looks like a LP400S Series #3 but with a bigger engine and more HP and upgraded suspension geometry.
4.2. = The 1984-1987 Countach LP5000S "RESTYLING PROTOTYPE" with significant changes done by Giulio Alfieri. The idea started in 1984 as "Project L150" and during 1987 this car was developed and finished/completed under Patrick Mimran himself! At the right and left sides the original NACA ducts were replaced with large side grilles, mounted in enlarged flat rear wings (like on a Porsche 935). The side windows now were 1-piece instead of the normal 2-pieces.
5.1. = The 1985 LP5000 QV "Euro", now with 4 valves per each cylinder and with six Weber double-carburetors "on top" (instead on side).
5.2. = The QV "US-version", the on top carburetors were replaced with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system.
6. = The 1987 Countach Evoluzione a.k.a. EVO, a prototype and testbed with carbon fiber frame and aluminium/carbon body panels and more HP and a re-designed suspension geometry.
7.1. = The QV "88 1/2", with side skirts, and with a re-designed dash board top (air outlets) and a more modern digital aircon controll unit.
7.2. = The 88 1/2 "USA" with fuel injection.
8.1. = The 1988/89 Countach 25th Anniversary "Euro", with heavily modified body style by Pagani.
8.2. = The 25th Anniversary "USA", with fuel injection instead of carburetors.
If we would count each of these Countach variations as a "model", we would get 16 (!) different Countachs!
(The unique non-official US-american "Injection Prototype" based on a LP5000S not included)
@Colleen - I ❤ your videos. 👍
When it comes to "car taste" you're an "old dog" 😉🙂
you missed the most important Countach ever made!😉
2.1 is the preproduction Countach 1120001 with tubular frame.
it was an unique car from which the body buck was constructed for all future Countach to be built upon.
also the shape is slightly different from any other Countach.
80's !!!!!
I am curious to know which is more fun and which is easier to live with; a Countach or a Pantera, both of the early 80s vintage.
I currently own two DeLoreans and recently test drove a 1988 Lotus Esprit, and I can confirm that the DeLorean has a more comfortable interior volume for long trips and is easier to get into and out of than the Lotus Esprit. The Lotus seat was more comfortable than the DeLorean seat, but I prefer to recline more than the Lotus allows and was too "upright" in the Lotus for my comfort. I do long road trips, 1,000+ miles in just a few days.
Fun I suppose is subjective. For me you can't beat a rumbling V12. But ease (and cost) or maintenance... no contest. V12s are very expensive to run! I recall at some point if you needed to replace Lamborgini V12 crankshaft it was something like 20000£. Distributors are also super expensive. Anything engine related really.
When she whips her hair reversing😋
Captivating... you should do a swimsuit calendar with all of these cars
This is the poster i dreamed of driving this 2years ago was horrible never meet your heroes right
actually to correct you. that wing was there for 100% show. it has no working downforce function
From the Kitchen in the garage ? ;))
I could seriously tap that!!! 😃
yeah, after drinking 3 cases of beer, in 1 hour.
I have had cars with the horn button was on the turn signal stick, not really that unusual...
i know it would be sacrilege but why not put some recaro seats in it just for the time period you owned it then put the other seats back in when time to sell?
So the Lambo doesn’t require a warm up? Or you just didn’t film it?
I don’t think I heard anything for the first couple minutes till I realized, shit, I better start listening.
"The wing added stability." LOL every Lamborghini enthusiast knows that this wing did nothing except add drag.
lol
people who drove a Countach past 200kmph know otherwise
Everyone had a poster of the Futuristic Lamborghini countach on THEIR wall in the 80s.
