I was surprized that a Romanian guy managed to walk around the world, even if it took 13 damn years to do that, taking in consideration that he was a normal villager with no much knowledge, but with great adventurous temper. :D
There is someone attempting this right now. You should search (including CZcams) for Karl Bushby. He's been attempting the longest walk possible to bring him back to his home town of Hull (UK). He started at the tip of South America (just like the walk shown in the video), and figured out how to cross the Bering Strait to go from America to Russia. It's an amazing story, and he published a book, Giant Steps, about it up to the point of getting to Russia. And that's were he hit problems. He's still doing the walk, after finally getting permission to stay long enough in Russia (especially Siberia) to complete that section.
3:32 If you read the Wikipedia article it says the dog stopped in Florida with the guy who died there. Presumably either the dog was adopted by someone in Flordia or became a stray there, or was eaten by alligators there.
Yesterday I met a 68 y/o man Kuno Jakob from Germany who is walking all the way. I am from Assam,India he was on his way to Nagaland and to Myanmar According to sources he covered 15 countries and 20 states of India. Great spirit
Dave Kunst is actually from my hometown. There is a large mural in town depicting him and his group the Earthwalkers. It's nice to see them getting some recognition outside of their hometown.
When I was 21 I walked from San Francisco to St.Augustine it took 8 months and I've since biked from New York to Seattle which was accomplished in under 2 months.
This is pretty impromptu, but Im planning on doing something similar, though to a far lesser extent over this summer break. Is there any advice you can give me? Where did you sleep each night, and what would you /would you not recommend doing while traveling?
Thanks for the video. The longest I have walked is 12 hours of non-stop hike with an hour for breakfast (after 3 hours of hike) and lunch (after 4 hours of hike post-breakfast). From Hong Kong Gold Coast to Shek O. You may google and see the amazing hike.

It is possible to Drive Around world there is Shallow ocean water bridge between Alaska & Russia that does freeze completely solid sometime durning the winter.
How long did humans take to migrate to every continent? Tens of thousands of years? I find it amazing that you could walk around the entire globe in a single lifetime if you wanted.
[:50] "It's about 24,901 miles across at the equator". "Across" makes it sound like diameter, which is about 7917 miles. What you should probably have said was "24,901 miles AROUND at the equator" or "...in circumference at the equator." JW3HH
Search Karl Bushby. Walking 38,000 from Chile to Alaska, to Russia, to Iran, and eventually back to his in England. He started 1998. Still not done yet.
That would be a trip I'd definitely take part on, as long as it was paid by some company or something. Just imagine having nothing to do so long just to walk? that being your only goal, so awesome
Isn’t there like a line on the world that doesn’t have mountains crossing it and then there are bridges to cross throw the oceans or seas. There should be a line like that.
In 2001 my uncle from drc walked from drc to South Africa he made it to South Africa in 2004 why borders animals and military were a major problem as he had to pass through 5 counties oh yeah and civil war was taking place in the region at the time it would end just a year later 2005 he stayed in south Africa for 15 years he soon went back to drc in 2012 he is still there today
Taking into account inevitable injuries ( you are going to get hurt %100 ) sickness and needing to sleep more after more difficult treks I’d say it would take anyone a very long time. 13 years sounds pretty acceptable to me. They probably stopped for months at a time just for their own sanity.
Like your Post. We should walk to feel and see our earth before the last day of our lives. Instead of depressed and struggling. any nonprofit groups support your Project? We can leave in a group for safety purpose.
I think normal walking ability is 4 hour a day so it takes almost 7 years to across the earth in straight line .. by using horses it takes maybe 2-3 years .. the earth is big for 1 man but it small for 7 billion of them
John Hugh Gillis was the first person to cross Canada by foot about 110 years ago. So while it's definitely not impossible, I don't think I could make it. Wishfully thinking... with training I could cross the prairies.
People seeking goals can get fixated on outlandish objectives. Spending 11 years for Jean from Montreal and 13 years for the Romanian sure took up a lot of Forrest Gump mindless moments. Others spend 11 years getting a PhD or building a business, working in a factory, raising a family and so. Everyone has 1000 minutes everyday to run, walk, sit and think of what to do with the 1,000,000 hour in their life. Me, i climbed Mt. Everest, wrote 12 books, traveled to 102 countries, invented the Knowledge Generator and so on
Using magnetic North it takes just over a year and that is at a good pace and little sleep. If you was to walk in a straight line, you would never reach the end. "I am the wisest man alive for I know one thing and that is that I know nothing at all " ^plato3-616
It would be kinda hard for me to go across my continent given that Europe Asia and Africa are kinda one and the same continent and Asia alone is the largest continent. It would be fun though :)
Or you can walk coast to coast then once you hit the ocean, hop on a cruise liner with a gym and hop.on the treadmill, start walking again once you get to whatever country you're in now. Haha. You're technically still walking.
Longest I've ever walked is not very far. About 4 miles. I've biked almost 15 miles before though, and I used to bike 6 miles every day from home to school until I stopped after 4 weeks.

second question. how many calories does it takes?
+Brian Pham How many dogs would one have to eat?
you loose 1kg per 100 kilometres just by walking.
p.s: you can do that in a few hours.
Edit: also 1 kg or two pounds is about 7700 calories.
