Tom Turcich of New Jersey and his adorable pooch Savannah have walked over 18,000 miles through the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile, Italy, Turkey and dozens of other countries over the past five years. It’s been a life-changing adventure. They’ve survived hardship, and they’ve experienced the kindness of strangers along the way. And they’ve still got miles to go.

It's true and it's not a coincidence. We homo sapiens gradually edited the genome and DNA of their species by domesticating them and breeding them as we wanted, eventually creating incredibly human-compatible creatures that just "designed" by us to be very human friendly. Also i think intelligence plays an important part, since many intelligent creatures are very friendly. Think about it. Whales, Dolphins, Monkeys, Gorillaz, Chimps, Octopuses, and Dogs and Pigs and Cows and Birds especially Parrots etc. and then you have Crows and also Ravens. These are all very intelligent species and they are mostly friendly (if not threatened). Now you may say but what about Tigers and Lions and other Predators. Most of them are also very intelligent species. Yes. I'm not saying intelligence guarantees friendliness in a species but it allows it. Some species that are intelligent are carnivores and so they hunt and kill other species. That's the way the world works.

Great story, Thank you. My situation is similar. I bought an RV and have been traveling around America Canada and Mexico. I am looking for my forever rescue dog. . Life is short. Everything can change in an instant. Mine did the day after I graduated high school. 18 years old I broke my neck C6-7 and was a Quad, in a wheelchair. Told I would never walk again. After a lot of hard work, I was Up and walking unassisted. Now I am out living the nomadic life.

I put my best friend to sleep a few days ago, this was hard to watch because we would go everywhere. but this gives me hope to find another dog to call my best friend to be able to experience and explore the world, thanks.
My dog bites and growls at me and I feel like I mean nothing to him because my sister is his favorite and she barely pays attention but I also never forget that he is the one that is proud to see me get up. Just thinking about him gone feels like their will be no hope. Its good to move on though and my mom lost her dog in mexico when she left and came to the north for her children his name was Oso, bear in english he was a big companion until she gave him away she still has another dog a golden retriever 16 or 15 yrs old he lives next door from my grandma's house because my grandma does not like dogs but she had to leave her dog. I can't imagine me without Toby my dog.

As a Costa Rican, and someone who likes to walk a lot, I totally agree with him. Costa Rica is beautiful but not exactly the easiest of walks.
If you like to walk, find yourself a dog and go, have the greatest fun in your life. Do it for those of us who can't do it.

Actually, when you serach carefully among millenials you find more people like him. I run courses for adults who often talk about themselves and all I hear is: "Kids? No thanks. I'd rather hike in the Himalayas or dive in caves". And they have pictures to show it. Mind you those aren't college kids but people in their late twenties and early thirties. Frankly, it's getting more and more difficult to find someone living the traditional way: husband/wife, kids and a dog, especially among people who have higher education and money to treat themselves to life's many pleasures. So either we have a TON of life quitters or we should expand our definition of what a happy life could entail. Heck, even when I talk to parents they are often divorced single parents so ye olde Disney formula crashed and burned for them as well. Makes one think.

Nah that is just inevitable, it is sad but the moments still happened. They still lived their lives to the fullest.
Its not an if, its an when, its inevitable, death comes to all of us, instead of being sad, we should be happy we had the privilege and the pleasure to share our lives with these four legged friends. thats part of the reason I create videos on my channel, to capture all the beautiful memories

Somehow, no matter how tired you are, when you see this all country beautiful and uniqueness its just always raging up your energy again, almost makes you're tires suddenly gone, cause everytime we see the beauty of all of this country between its nature and the people its always makes you curious and always want to see. It reminds me of the shows "ALONE" by the History Channel and "Survivor". I imagine that it's harder to participate in those shows as a female.

This was really lovely! I'm very happy for Tom that he is learning so much about the world and himself. I'm older than dirt and the idea of even walking to the nearest border of my state with my 11 year old dog who would enjoy it, made me feel exhausted just contemplating the idea.

True. There are loads of logistical details not discussed probably because it takes away from the magic.
How to afford the shoes water and food, how to stay somewhat clean, how to not get totally blocked by weather, how to avoid robbery, how to pack out all trash when away from towns.

Like literal German journeymen - Mostly people who just finished their apprenticeship and then leave their homes and loved ones to travel the country/continent/world for three years and one day. They walk by foot or hitchhike. If they need money they have to find work. Sometimes they are also helped by locals or official places with a place to sleep for a night or a meal.

You don't need a lot of money to travel. And you don't have to do it all at once. Weekend or week long trips are quite lovely too. Explore your surroundings and within your local state/region/area.

One thing I'v always wondered with stories like these is how people get past the language barrier. How can he ask for things, directions, etc without knowing their language? Seems like a major challenge.
having travelled and walked through some really remote parts of Asia over many years its amazing how much you can communicate just by mime and gestures lol. But I always try to learn at least a few words in any local language too. hello and thankyou always go a long way. This guy is a legend. Always wanted to do something like this myself. Best of luck to him...

@@mommykirogi Nope, not talking about corona... most if not all countries have had a quarantine time for any pets or other animals brought over from another country, some places will have them in quarantine for a few months, I've even heard of there being quarantine for a year or more.
