I was going to ask if there was any advantages to getting this for a 2021 RAV4 Prime that already has Android Auto but then I saw the price and said nope. All I need for mine is a wireless adapter.
You don't have to use the sim card. You can use a lot of apps in the offline mode like google maps for example. Besides you can use any other sources of wifi including your mobile phone hotspot. The sim card will allow the device to always be connected to the internet. You can get extra sim card with a plan at your cellular provider.

It has more features than just the Carplay / Android auto Interface. You can download a lot more apps, watch videos, use offline maps, etc. But it always comes down to your requirements. If you have the iPhone, you can simply use the Carplay.
But to make it work you have to have Toyota unit which initially supports Android Auto? The advantage is only in having full set of android applications?
It also means that you don't need to have your phone with you to have access to Google Maps etc. Not having to plug/unplug the phone each time is something I'd appreciate. Plus a single unit in a shared family car means no more swapping between USB-C and Lightning cables; each user doesn't need to have downloaded offline maps etc.
This device should work in 2019 RAV4s as well (which unfortunately did not get the Android Auto update). The main requirement is to have the OEM wired CarPlay in the vehicle. And as Derek said it gives you a lot more flexibility compared to simply having Android Auto compatibility.

Is there an android auto update for the 2019 Rav 4? I heard that if your car was built in the last quarter of 2019 it comes with AA, but if it was before the dealership will do a free update for you. My service advisor did not know such thing.
Not for the early 2019 Rav4 new model hybrids unfortunately. I was i formed by a Toyota Dealer this was because of an incompatability issue with the built in overhead speakers in the early 1992 model - since rectified at factory fitting. But yes, the update was to be free for the later models. The problem exacerbating all this was Toyota's delay in agreeing to licence terms with Apple & Android - even though most all other manufacturers had already come to an agreement and were incorporating this into their units well before Toyota and which, I'm guessing, must have begun to impact sales.
@@edburke7409 I think it is very much BS that they cannot update the earlier models of the same year RAV4s, yet charge the same price as later manufactured vehicles. That infotainment system in my car is very useless as Scout GPS sucks very bad.
@@MorozovAutomotive when I plugged the Android box into the data port it wouldn't launch into the Android system and would have an error message show on the screen saying it wasn't compatible with the system. There is a reset button that you can push in a hole by the two LEDs on the front to restart the box if the system freezes or doesn't boot right. But the actual problem wasn't the box I found but the infotainment system itself. By going to settings-general and the delete personal data it will reset the system and clear whatever error it had. Once this is cleared power down the box and plug it back in and start the vehicle. It will then give you the car play prompt asking if you would like to allow access to the box and click always enable and voila. Also side note T-Mobile 4g works great.
Does it work if my car doesn't have Android Auto? My car has the original radio from Toyota but in my country Android auto was not activated, even when this is the Limited edition...
Hmm they are the same but with the phone you only have the app approved for cars while here I see CZcams, netflix, amazon movies which aren't usually displayed

Дело в том что в Тойоте мне предлагают купить у них, Но она очень сильно ограничена, типа министерство транспорта запрещает использовать такие приложения как CZcams Netflix итд... In the Menu of the RAV4 head unit you need to select Apple CarPlay and it will take you back to the box OS.

Boots within about 30s or so. Hard power off kills it, im considering jerry-rigging a reserve battery or something, that part drives me a bit crazy.

So I got the box in and when I plug it in and start the car it never starts into Android?

Вы можете перевести андлийские субтитры на русский. Включаем субтитры - настройки - субтитры - перевести - выбираем русский.
