- In this video we will go over the new software system Toyota has rolled out in most, not all, of its vehicles for 2023 and on. We expect this to be the staple system in every car very soon.
We cover it using apple CarPlay, which android auto shares 90% similarity. We also go over a couple unique customizations you may like. Enjoy!
*This is filmed in a 2023 Toyota RAV4 LE with the standard 8” audio multimedia system.

just bought a 2024 Rav 4. Last car I had was 25 years old. Don't have a clue what most of this stuff is. Wish you would do one on whats free and whats a subscription. Paying for cable is bad enough. I have an I phone but dont even get email on it. Your video was very helpful. Would take me years to figure this stuff out.
I hear you. I’m 80. I can still drive at least. My daughter just gave me a lesson on using Apple Car Play.
thank you for posting this! totally onboard with the security and privacy measures you do!
Thanks for watching!
Great video! It was very helpful in figuring out my new Rav4. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
Just found your video that is very well done. Thank you. I need to watch several times @ 76. 😅.
Thanks! You’re doing great just by being here 😎
Awesome, Brian…..thank you! You are amazing!❤
Thank you!
Thank you! I thought I had made a mistake because I got spoiled using Carplay and I couldn't navigate the Toyota App.
Your video was extremely helpful!!
Happy to help!!
Great video thank you
Very helpful for me. I just got mine today. It's an awesome truck. Thank you for the help 😊
Congrats!
Nice tutorial 👌 Brian, I guess a lot of people need such this tutorial as it's so informative and supportive.
As usual with your distinctive way, I give you 5 stars 🌟 for your explanation of the tutorial.
Great job and appreciate your efforts 👍
Sending love for you and all the USA 🇺🇸

Peace ✌️
Hey Hamdy thank you so much! Your support always makes my day. Receiving the love and sending some right back to Egypt! 🇺🇸🇪🇬
@@brianruperti what's up buddy 😊😊 man wow 😮
Love your videos, I have been binge watching them all weekend 😄
Yay! Thank you! This made my weekend to read!
Same!! We have a Highlander ordered 🎉and would like to get a head start on the tech!
Very useful. Thanks! We just received our 2024 Prius and were having trouble figuring our the system.
Glad it helped!
Big help…will watch again ..ty
You’re welcome
Very very helpful Brian! Thank YOU!
Happy to help! Thanks for watching :-)
Brian was the salesperson who just sold us a 2024 RAV4 Prime XSE. Tutorial was VERY helpful for us to sort out the Apple Car Play system.
If this is Burt & Anne, I look forward to seeing you for an in person tutorial when I return to work!
Awesome Brian! With too many info when you get a new car, this surely helps !!!🙌🏆
Happy to help!
Excellent informative video Brian! For some reason I had to manually look your channel up. I wonder😢why I wasn’t seeing any of your videos show up on my primary feed from your channel. Good informative video as always Brian! I’ve been here all along! Have a great weekend! Mark in Iowa.
Hey Mark was wondering how you’ve been! Because I don’t pay CZcams to promote my videos, they no longer throw them out there. CZcams wants content creators to pay fees now to get views. I don’t believe in that. So it’s great to see you dropping by again! Hope you enjoy your weekend. The fall is finally here. Leaves are orange already! I blame the rainy eastern September we’ve had. How is it over your way?
@@brianrupertihello Brian, it is very hot still in Texas , do you have any idea about 2024 rav4 ? What is better hybrid or non hybrid rav4 ?
@@mustaphan9121 2024 should be basically the same from what I understand and that’s a tough question depends on your needs and goals with the vehicle.
My corolla hybrid 2023 is great but the multi media was a bit overwhelming… your videos have helped me so much… I still have a few more settings to adjust but I know where to go for the answers! Thank you!😊
Glad to help!!
very helpful, thanks.
Awesome video Brian! Thanks!
Thank you!!
I appreciate your videos brain, keep up the good work brother
I appreciate that
Brian, i can't thank you enough for all your Highlander XSE videos. This tech video is going to be so valuable. I've watched at least three times and we haven't even received our car yet. 😊😊
Thanks! Glad to help
Thanks. I just purchased a 2024 RAV4 XLE. I shared your buttons video on the LE and XLE with my salesman to pass along.
Congrats! Thanks for watching
Congratulations! I noticed that many salespeople at dealers are clueless. Sometimes I feel like I know more than them. Still deciding if I want Rav vs others 😫 Not an easy decision
@@agak61 I chose the RAV4 because of their multi port injection. The cost of cleaning the valves on a direct injection only vehicle every 30K is ridiculous
Thank you, Bryan. Great tutorial.
Very helpful video! I would have liked you to go over the wireless e key options and what they mean. I'm the type that needs explanations for everything! Tech challenged.
Thank you for this video! i was losing my mind trying to figure out how to switch screens from AA to Toyota screen. Ty Ty! Have a nice long weekend!
Thank you and you too!
Hi Brian
Thanks for making a very helpful video. Much appreciated.
Hey Tony thanks for watching!
Great video was very helpful for learning how to use my new car.
Glad you liked it!
Great tutorial Brian. Thank you, thank you, thank you. 🌟
Very welcome!
Hi Brian. After setting everything up as per your great video. Everything looked good. However every time I just park and start the car up the next day, I have to re-connect all over again. It just shows I am a guest. Even after complete reset. Any ideas?
@@mondarafla402 hello thank you for watching. Did you create an account with the Toyota app when you bought the car? Your sales person gets paid to do this with you and make sure you are connected as a user.
Great video, very informative. You speak very clearly and the pace of your presentation was just right. I also like that the structure or "lesson plan" of your presentation was very logical, with the Toyota software and the Apple Carplay software discussed in separate sections. Thank you!
Thanks so much!
OUTSTANDING presentation, thank you!!!!!!!
Thank you!
im very happy i came across your tapes.
Thanks!
I just bought the 2024 Venza so this was very helpful!
Glad to help!
Hi, Brian.
Enjoy your tutorials‼️. however I couldn’t find any tutorials on the Toyota Venza, specifically.
Hey sorry Venza has been on back burner lately!
Work perfectly on my 2025 Camry LE great job some of the stuff is confusing. Thanks again. Great job.
Thank you!
Excellent video abounding with GREAT, RELEVANT info for the new Toyota owner unfamiliar with this system. THANKS. I will keep note of this for additonal viewing. Agree with previous reviewer who said it would take, quite literally, YEARS to "figure all this stuff out." Thanks for shaving these years off our experience.
Happy to help!
Brian, great videos as they really help. Any suggestions on adding second driver access to use the Toyota System or Carplay?
Thank you! Yes just connect to Bluetooth and follow the prompts.
Hello Brian, we have the same name. 😅right now I'm still waiting for my 2024 Rav4 Hybrid and your video helped me to be thoroughly informed and how I would set it up once I get the car, as it was too much for me when I did the test drive at the dealer. Thank you and cheers! 😀
Nice! Congrats and thanks for watching!
Awesome thank you very helpful!
Glad it helped!
Very helpful, thank you.

Thank you so much very helpful
Glad it helped!
Thanks again for a wonderful video!
Thanks! And thank you for your support 🙏🏼
Great video as usual. Do you know if you can change the colors of the lines for the rearview camera? thanks
Thank you. There are not color options but when equipped with the dynamic rear view camera, you can change the grid line type, which inherently has different colors per type.
you spoke very professionally and in great detail。
Thank you
Very helpful, thanks.
Glad it was helpful!

Nice and concise thank you.

Just bought a 2024 RAV4 prime - using Android - would love a full user tutorial would be VERY helpful. I watched your new software which was helpful, but if you can show the Android the symbols are different. Love the way you do your tutorials - glad I found your CZcams. Thank you.
Will do thanks!
Same! 😊
Very helpful without useless chatter - Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Extremely helpful
Glad to hear!
thanks for the info
You’re welcome
Superb tutorial. You're really good at this and Toyota should hire you to do this for the "Toyota channel" if there is one. If not they should have you start one!
Thanks!
I just bought a 2024 RAV4. This tutorial has helped immensely but I don’t understand why anyone needs all of these features (except radio and navigation) on a car when they’re already on the phone.
I'm doing just fine! I broke away from Toyota for 9 months and bought a 2022 Altima SR from my Toyota dealership in Kirksville Missouri. I just traded back to a 2017 Camry XLE V6 from a dealership in Burlington Iowa. I will continue using my Toyota dealership in Kirksville Missouri however. Kaden Anderson one of the Sales Managers I have used since 2019 when I first bought from them. I sincerely appreciate you Sir! Much respect always Brian! Mark in Iowa.
Welcome back to Toyota. Likewise! Enjoy your fall season
Our weather here in southeast Iowa is still warm but leaves are just beginning to change. Should be 92 degrees here today and 90 tomorrow on Sunday. Mark.
I should email you again. Mark.
@marksmith4582 holy cow! It’s 58 here and rainy it’s been 60s all week.
@@brianruperti I would be honored to send some sunshine and warmer weather your way!
Great video, thanks! Is there anyway to stop the annoying pop up windows, at night the bright white and blue messages are extremely blinding, even when setings are set to night light.
Thank you, You can adjust the brightness or change the pop up display in your MID settings
Nice job Brian! On your apple car play homescreen it shows navigation / Food / Drinks / Mikah Sky Sanctuary / and Calendar. Can I edit this screen to show fav phone numbers (4 or them) / Navigation / and FM favorite station? I have been unable to figure out how to edit this home screen? Thanks
Thank you. At this time you can only change the wallpaper and if album art is shown. As well as activate driver focus. I don’t see a way to edit screen layout.
Thanks, your tutorials help me a lot. Toyota cross 2024 is it the same or close?
Corolla Cross would operate the same
Thank you!
Welcome!
When we open Waze. Is there possible to make that sounds only hear by AirPod? Thanks for the video
Might be in Waze settings
Where did you get that volume knob?
Love your tutorials but I just got 24 Camry xse. Please post tutorial. My purchase description says heated steering wheel but can’t find button. Also struggling to set up apple car play
Thank you. Your heated steering wheel
Button should exist on the dashboard left of steering wheel. It’s a small square button next to the trunk and gas door buttons.
For apple car play, simply plug your phone into the usb Jack and wait for the prompt on your phone and car screen. Allow all connections and it should activate.
Let me know if that helps!
And most importantly big congrats on such a nice car. What color??
Great video and it helped me a lot with my 2024 Rav4 Hybrid.
I have a question and you probably can't help but no harm in asking. With regard to the RSA over the speed limit notification, I can change the notification from Visual & Audio to No Notification or Visual Only, OR I can just turn it off completely
However, when I turn the car off and back on again it goes back to the default “ON” position or defaults to "Visual & Audio". I have tried so many times but regardless of whether I select No notification or Visual Only, when I turn car off and back on again it forgets and defaults to visual and Audio.
Similar thing happens when I try to change the notification on the LTA.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated?
Thank you. After reading your message I realized I don’t have an answer I have no
Idea why it would keep resetting like that.
Thank you for this much detail. I still listen to the radio at times. Do we need to have WiFi now to listen to radio? The “you’re not connected to WiFi “ popped up when looking for the radio. Thank you!
Thanks for watching. Wifi is not needed. You should be able to select
Toyota app > audio > enable audio > FM/AM
@@brianruperti Thank you! I’ll go try.
Very good indeed. One thing that I'd like to know-and perhaps I missed it in your presentation-how do I use the USB port to listen to my old iPod? I have audiobooks that I like to listen to while driving.
Thank you. Great question, it should work on the usb down below
I've tried it and it doesn't.@@brianruperti
Brian, on the awd corolla xse, does it have the tire pressure for each individual tire like my awd camry does?
It should
Great tutorial, thank you....
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome 👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Hey Brian. I am planning on buying a 2024 Toyota camry hybrid SE. I know it comes with wired android auto and apple car play. do you know if they will come out with an update that will make it wireless in the future? I cant find any information on if the camrys are able to get ota updates or if I can upgrade the software by going to a dealer. Thanks!!!
Hey thank you for watching. I don’t think it will come with an update to make it wireless.
Awesome!
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thank you so much!!! 🙏🏼
Very useful information and we appreciate it. How do I keep my Android auto running but not wanting to run Sirius XM through my phone? I already pay for satellite Sirius XM therefore don't want to pay for data, especially when there are so many dead cell spots that are drive through. Do I have to remove the app from my phone which I use when I'm out gardening or even showering??
Thank you. You would respect the Toyota app on the car screen, go to audio, then select XM radio.
Brian, great video details. can you tell me why I can’t see my music videos like on my rav4? Thanks
Thank you. Sorry I’ve never seen a video play on a car screen
Sorry Brian, clarifying, was not a video, was a music video from youtube. I always have played my music videos but in the 2023 highlander doesn’t do that, just the logo and music. I will try to find out and see if find the answer.
Thanks for your response.
@vision21photography yea sorry I don’t know how a music video would be able to be played without just showing the music names/logo. I’ve heard jail breaking can change these things but that’s a world I have never explored. Best of luck!
Super helpful, thank you, I wish there was a way to remove the Toyota subscription Splash screen when you start up your vehicle. BTW, turning off your display will automatically shut down some safety features (LTS)… strange.
Interesting I would consider visiting service if safety sense options are shutting down
@@brianrupertithank you… I did visit service they indicated that this is “normal
@@randalljwarren151 if you take a video of this and email it to me I can review it for you
Good video - mine was working fine for the first few months (2023 Venza) but somehow I turned off the microphone on CarPlay (or Toyota Connect, not sure which) so when I ask Siri to do something, I can barely hear her voice as the volume is very low (not totally muted). I can’t figure out how to change this back. Any suggestions?
Thanks, hmm not sure why it would do that
Know any information on 2021 4 runner sr5 premium an how to connect to my cell phone.. ?
Yes just hit the phone button on your steering wheel and go to Bluetooth in the phone menu and follow the prompts
We bought a 2023 Corolla Cross Hybrid this summer after having a Subaru for 18 years. The learning curve is steep. We still haven’t figured everything out. Keep reading the manuals and watch a few videos. The dealer’s service department is a bit helpful too.
Welcome to Toyota 😎
@@brianruperti I had a 1990 Camry for 10 years. So it’s more like welcome back!
@irenecohen8708 nice!!!
Is it possible to change the 8 inch screen with the 12 inch in toyota?
Thanks
Generally not unless the model has a package option for it
Great video. I am trying to figure out how to get the music to stop playing when a text message is being read.
Thank you. Unfortunately I believe this is a new feature with iPhones I don’t know how to stop that either
@@brianruperti Thank you for your reply. Hopefully we figure it out. At the moment it feels like a defect.
Thanks
1. How to get to the default radio options
2. Can you set up a 2nd phone
For default radio what exactly do you mean? And setting up second phone is the same process you did when you got the car to set up Bluetooth.
thx a lot
You're welcome!
If you change the display to not be automatic its still goes in to night mode when in a tunnel or when it gets dark. Can you test it and see if it works for you?
It will stay dark
So can you just tap the voice button on your steering wheel and tell Toyota to turn on your favorite list of FM radio? Or do you have to go in there and select music and all that?
Yes you can
Wow I have been struggling for weeks to go back to the Toyota software after I connect my car. I saw the “Toyota” app and I was so confused but didn’t click on it. Lol. My last car was 20 years old so I was so clueless with this.
I hope it helped!
While driving, can I change music channels from my steering wheel. Going to screen to change channels is not safe while driving.
The seek and track buttons on wheel should do this
lol my iPad just went to Siri when you spoke! Is there a way to control volume on maps?
lol and yes should be in the settings to the app you’re running
Brian, great tutorial, my question is on our 2024 Grand Highlander we added my wife’s iPhone app using the QR code, I would like to connect my phone as well but don’t know how to bring up the QR again.
All you have to do is go to Bluetooth>new user> follow Bluetooth prompts to connect the new phone
@@brianruperti Awesome, thank you! Not to wear you out with questions, but why doesn’t the radio display the artist and song titles on FM stations like our 2020 Sienna did?
@Olecountry-ow3yj no idea I
Wonder the same myself!
So when my multimedia system is operating with Android Auto via Bluetooth from my phone, am l using wireless data? That could result in some pretty high charges. How do l get around that? I don't know how to use WiFi hotspots.
Yes
Just purchased a 2024 Toyota Tundra. I have set up Apple Car Play on my system. I also set up Sirius radio. How I do I set up Sirius radio as an app on the car play screen so that I can toggle to Sirius more efficiently?
Do you have the Sirius app downloaded to the phone?
@@brianruperti Yes, I just added it to my iphone.
I just got my 2024 Camry.
But don't know how to connect wirelessly to Apple carplay.
Is Toyota apps a must on my Iphone?
You don’t have wireless Apple CarPlay
Why when you’re in the back up camera does it give you a choice for all different colors is it for the screen or for the back up camera?
Changes the backup camera lines
Thank You 😊
We are still waiting for software update for Rav4 2020 Limited. Any news about update?
@brianruperti do you have any news about rav4 2020 software update?
I have ran into an issue recently and can’t find a fix for it. I have a 2024 Rav 4 while my iPhone is connected to the car and I get an incoming text message it won’t read message but does lower my music as if it were saying the text message aloud. Was wondering if you knew a fix for it. Thanks in advance.
If you go to your phones settings, then Bluetooth, then tap the vehicle name or “i” and make sure that “messages” is enabled.
When will the 12.3 video come out? Thanks
Very soon it’s the same as this one basically with a bigger map
I am thinking of buying one to put it in my 2021 hope it works😭
Any remote lock or unlock options? Or remote lights or beep to find your car in a lot?
Yes, standard in every car
@@brianruperti actually I read it's a 1 year trial and then it's subscription based. Remote connect services must be bundled with one of the services that's about $15 or $25/mo. Is that right? That's very disappointing if that's true. They NEED to catch up with everyone else in this department. I really hope it's standard.
Hi, I have a Sansung S23 Ultra and I can't connect to Android Auto wireless, it only works with the cable, do you know any workaround to fix? Thanks
Ooo I’m sorry I’m not familiar with the S23
how would you set up navigation seems to be missing for Toyota app
The Toyota cloud based nav or the phone nav?
I have a 2023 Rav4 hybrid. Is there a way to reset the default to factory setting. My screen won't stay on the startup screen and goes to the map screen. I have to reset the system on every startup.
You want it to stay on the purple startup screen?
Thanks. I have a new Venza and I must admit the software is a bit overwhelming to take in. It works completely different from my previous vehicle. I am a bit worried about Toyota wanting to charge a subscription fee for remote uses and navigation.
I have similar concerns
Me too.
