The hallmark of the untreated narcissist is a desire to win instantly with no effort but be praised as God tier without working for it. He's not good at really any game but managed to convince himself he was better than most at fighting games (or more likely his condition wasn't as malignant yet) so he's clung to them as part of his identity.
When he fell off, he couldn't abandon them like he normally would. That admits defeat. But he can't practice. Because again, his mentally ill brain can't accept that from a fighting game. Fromsoft games he can. So he'll beat himself senseless against a brick wall. Getting more and more frustrated as he's left behind but can't accept why. He does know why make no mistake. I don't think he's at the point of genuine delusions. He'll just never admit it. Someday we might see him have a true emotional mental breakdown on stream. Straight up crying in frustration because he simply cannot be good enough by throwing himself at the problem with no plan

    “Fighting games have changed”
They have. It’s unavoidable. What Phillip neglects to mention or apparently consider is how he has changed. Including the degradation of his memories. Nostalgic incomplete inaccurate memories aren’t that relevant to the modern state of anything.
    “No opportunity to learn”
What he means by this is that his preferred antiquated method of learning slowly by fighting the same small pool of opponents over and over again is inferior to the methods modern players have devised to improve faster. Phillip feels left out.
    “You have to study”
He thinks his learning curve is universal. Nope. Some people can pick up things like this and take to them like a fish takes to water. They still have to practice but they run circles around the unskilled. Like Phillip.
    “Not as fun anymore”
Can’t help but think this is strongly correlated to the fact that he can’t perform at the level he falsely believes he’s at. If he wasn’t having a difficult time he’d be having fun. Having to overcome a challenge is a grievous insult to his greatness, he expects things to be handed to him on silver platters.
    “Fake statistics based on nothing”
Being a minor part of the Street Fighter FGC scene for a brief period of time does not make you a subject matter expert on fighting games or even Street Fighter itself nincompoop. You never demonstrated mastery at the height of your glory days, how is it you’re such a sage eagle-eyed analyst now? Why should anyone trust your perspective? So they can get humiliated in public by children like you are?
    “They have no knowledge”
    A. You are not psychic
    B. Your observation is baseless
    C. You are a liar
The reason he contradicts himself is the same reason why police interrogators make suspects repeat the same story dozens of times over an interview. Most people are not practiced liars and will give you different versions of the lie if you press them enough.

  • @Admiralkirk95
    @Admiralkirk95 Před 18 dny +4

If he wasn't labbing when he was in the competetive scene, then he wasn't a really competetive player. There's two parts to being good. Practice, and execution. Finding the time to try new ideas to get better damage or perfect inputs, or figure out frame data is a great idea. But the other half is actually playing and executing those learned ideas. My brother has spent hours in practice perfecting his combos, looking over frame data to know which moves are safe or not. And in general just practicing execution. Then trying to apply that knowledge and muscle memory to a real game.
If Phil doesn't understand this and even calls it 'stupid' then he is not a very competitive guy, and it really means he's trying to cope that the 'try hards' are stupid. Mental gymnastics to make his laziness and inability to commit from a weakness to a strength.... somehow. Truly one of the most strange and crazy arguments he's ever had. Telling people that practicing is stupid. He wants fighting games to go back to the way they were where the game was reletively simple and the average player wasn't an expert on the game. Now casual players have all the tools to be competant players, maybe not career players, but definetly compitent and he hates that. He hates that the average players skill is so much higher now, and he's just too lazy and still set in the mindset of player sf2 or 4 to adapt. Watch his gameplay is incredibly simplistic. You can tell he has hit a wall, and it's why he will never get better.
So just complain and cope that people taking the time to practice are stupid, and the games not fun cause people don't suck as much and give me free wins, and the game looks so much more complicated and I'm getting styled on. Cause when he talks about it not being fun anymore he means he's not winning anymore. The losses are more frustrating than ever cause he it's not even mistakes anymore, it's just sheer knowledge of the game that's beating him now. Players are reading him better than ever. He just sucks, and he'd rather cry like a baby than accept that and improve, shrug it off and just have real fun, or quit. A man who's one claim to fame was being above average at street fighter 2 and got lucky during evo, who is basically dunked on constantly on almost everything he does can't even win in street fighter anymore, or course he's coping hard.
He's basically just mad that other people can learn the game faster than him cause he is either really bad at learning, or refuses to lab. Then has to face people who just pick it up faster than him. Even on a even playing field he wants some secret knowledge that he get people with.
Is it a crime that people who may not want to be beat by a new character for a week, cause 80% of their matches will be against that character, just want to learn how to fight the character and not lose the whole time? Other people want to have fun too Phil, they also want to win a few matches. So why is it wrong that they go out and find the tools to combat annoying stuff/knowledge in the game?

He doesn’t want people to practice, he doesn’t want people to use combos, he doesn’t want to get hit because it’s an “unearned kaaahmbo”, he doesn’t want to have to guess to block high or low or throw tech, he doesn’t want to actually get good to win more, but says he may as well not play because he loses so much because he won’t practice. It’s like Phil just wants to ironically fight a training dummy who just stands there. The logic is baffling.

It does not cross his mind that people strive to be good at these games because they like them.
I have never sat and played a game and thought "I don't enjoy this game but i'm going to play it, master it and milk it for money!"
He doesn't seem to get that there has been a competitive scene in gaming since 1978 when space invaders was the first game to add a score to the proceedings. Ever since people have been vying for the best score on numerous games. Practicing to beat the competition because they love their chosen game!
So the game doesn't even have to be designed to be a competitive experience and the community will add that themselves.
It show his mentality and his complete lack of dedication to anything that requires effort and patience.

Calling them tryhards while as you stated - his claim to fame being a 4th place in an event that was boycotted to my understanding. My favourite DSP clip is the fellas sitting on a panel and the second Phil is mentioned, everyone sounded like they wanted to start rioting.
Even back in 2007 - when CoD4 was brand new; we ran combos like M16, noob tubes and all that jazz. MW2 was even worse with One Man Army + Ak47 / Grenade Launcher. Literally infinite grenades.
He misses the days before Skill Based Matchmaking and ELO systems. When you could flick a game online around January and be certain 50% of your lobbies were children who could barely concentrate on the screen.
I feel you on the competitive part. With OW it got to a point every single game I played I could only pick my main characters; and would sweat bullets trying to keep up with the crowds in my high but not top ELO's..
Now i'm happier sitting 2 tiers down with a 50/50 winloss and chill gameplay.
