My wife just got this for my birthday and I nosed and tasted it right along with you, but added water after two sips. What a dram! I agree with the score, and that adding water won't thin it out. Rather, the water helps stretch out and define those flavors. Cheers Alan!

I'm happy to hear it. Ralfy has it as a 90. I just picked up a bottle in Portland, OR for less than $60, which is a fine price. I'm looking forward to cracking it with some friends, I hadn't seen this in the past 10 years, so I'd better pick up an extra bottle or two while I can!

I was hoping Glen Garioch would remain a relatively well kept secret for a while, but I am happy for this 12yo to get some love. Definitely spicy. It cuts through after you've been drinking other malts.

I've had a couple of bottles of this in the past and thoroughly enjoyed it. The recent price increases had put me off buying more, but last week I came across 1L bottles for Euro 38 at the Eurotunnel Calais. Absolute bargain at that price!

Also there is colour added. Mine had a label, id assume to sell in Germany travel retail potentially as its required, stating colour is added

This up against one of the Glen Scotia's I think would be interesting. I haven't done it & I might be way off. To me there's like bit of a funk going on in Glen Garioch similar to Campbelltowns. As I said I havent done the side by side, maybe tomorrow lol.

Love the Glen Garioch 12! Have a bottle myself, it's easily one of the most underrated 12 year single malts there is. Very complex and absolutely delightful to sip on. Glad you enjoyed it as well

I absolutely love Glen Garioch, such a character malt, the 12 yr has been one of my staples for a while now. If you haven't, you must really try the Glen Garioch 15yr Sherry Cask Matured (aged exclusively in Orolosso casks). One of the best whiskies I've yet tried, just had a dram alongside a slice of my homemade apple pie.

  • @Aubrey_Universe

It is no added color and there's a reason why this is nicknamed the whisky that can't be tamed as it's so complex and it changes every time you go back to it. Wonderful review and glad you found a great new 12 year old to enjoy. There's a reason why this is my favorite daily drinker. Can't wait to see you compare this to your kilkerran 12

    Hi 👋 Alan
I got the litre bottle recently after Ralfy scored this well.. but glad you also scored it well.
It is a different and beautiful dram.. you get lot of vege and earthy notes when you pour first few times. It costed me $125 AUD for 1 litre.

The finish threw me off. Maybe it's that black tea you mentioned... I hate tea. Reminds me of some notes I dislike on the Talisker 10 finish. but I just got the bottle, let's see where the journey takes me. So far as far as 48%abv 12ys goes, the Aberlour 12 NCF knocks this one out of the water.

Big fan of the GG12, does its own thing and a bit different from the usual sherry 12yr olds, worth trying it, definitely. The 15 takes it another step up again and really good, but does cost a lot more and being honest. probably a bit expensive for a 15 ( managed to pick up one more reasonable at auction). It is assumed to have colouring in it and being Suntory....not a surprise
