I love Glen Garioch it’s one of those underrated unappreciated malts.

This whisky is fantastic. I feel kinda bad I wasn’t really ready for it when I first opened it. I didn’t realize what I had. I drank half of the bottle almost wanting to finish it already and then I let it in the cabinet for almost a year. I came back to it and realized what a gem ir actually was. Absolutely not for beginners.

Glen Garioch 12 y/o is one of my favorites, especially in chilly weather, as a late evening sip while I read a book or just sit and relax.
No matter what else is in my cupboard, there's always some Glen Garioch.

And it's not springbank where so many whisky connoisseurs are institutionalised by it.

A favorite of mine. Hands down the best value on the market in my area (BC, Canada). This stuff is significantly better than most bottles twice the price.

I've never met a bad Glen Garioch, great old distillery, and I’ve tried quite a few of their releases, even very old ones!!
I especially take care and don't open this 12 (1L), which I bought 9 years ago in duty free! And by the way for only 64$...
This is a favorite of Charles III, the current King of UK, who recently invested huge amounts of money into the distillery to modernize it!

I found a 17 year 1995 bottle sitting on a clearance shelf with dust caked on the box for $80. I did some research and someone said to go for it because you wouldn't really get another chance to find one but be warned, not a beginner whiskey. It is truly one for the nerds. He was spot on and I was glad to buy it and get a taste of such a nostalgic form of scotch. Your review of the 12 is similar and I will look out for a chance to try the 12, as well. Cheers.

This one just got added to the list. I'm looking forward to trying this one. Sounds like a nice relaxing by the fire dram. $86 by me. Thanks

I agree with you. My thoughts are that the sherry cask whisky is heavier than the other casks and it becomes a sherry bomb by the time you reach 50% of the bottle. It's great because it's changes so much but is always good. It's not for beginners because of it's complexity but you clearly know your whisky....😄

I agree whole heartedly with you. I came across Glen Garioch by chance at a local supplier and picked it up just because the label ticked all the right boxes, NCF, NC, 48%, etc. I live in Singapore and the range of choices is not great compared to the US or UK so I will grab anything like that as it is often a good indication that the distillery cares about presenting their whisky well. It was also a very good price for Singapore. Most whisky is so expensive here that I could weep when I here folks in the US and UK talking about what the pay for the same thing.

Hi Erik, Thanks for an excellent and entertaining review. Glen Garioch is a fine and old school distillery. I tried some in the past and my favourite is the Glen Garioch 15 years. Maybe I should revisit the 12 year old. Cheers and greetings from Germany

I don't know anything about wine Erik but I do like a Malbec for its earthy clay-like characteristic.
At this point in my whiskey journey I am shocked when I find a more quintessential Scotch whisky than the funky and dirty nrands that I would have on my own bar.
I have 2 vintage CS releases from Glen Garioch, one bourbon and one sherry so I can blend to my hearts content

Great review! I picked this one up about a month and a half ago and my experience mirrors your assessment pretty accurately. I don't like peat. I loved the mouthfeel and other aspects of this whisky, but then I was getting that very small shot of peat very late in the finish that was almost ruining this for me. But I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. Last weekend by the back yard campfire, I gave this another try, just as the bottle passed the shoulder. Lo and behold, what a wonderful pour it was, I could find no hint of that peat. Without that peat this is becoming a favorite. Going to have another pour by the fire tonight. I'm only about a year into my journey, but I like a "dirty" whisky (Craigellachie, GL12 Illicit Still). This one is a difficult find in my area. I got the last one when I picked this up and can't find another in the area, yet, but will keep an eye out for it because I agree with your score. Really good and rugged stuff. Cheers!

Another great video and I was excited to see you review this one especially. I absolutely adore this whisky! It also happens to be one of the few bottlings that are actually cheaper in BC, Canada! That is v rarely the case, especially if it isn't a Canadian whiskey. It's about $65 CAD before tax here. This is definitely one of those drams you want to stock up on, as I think the word is out just how good this stuff is. Ralfy also rated it very highly a year or so ago

Thanks for the review Erik! 100% sure the Glen Garioch 12 is NOT natural color. I'm in Europe and they have the "Mit Farbstoff" on the label!

Sometimes they put that on every label in Germany just in case so its not 100% accurate.

Glen Garioch is hard to come by in my area. There is a bottle of the Founder’s Reserve in one of my local shops that I have been contemplating picking up…..is the Founder’s Reserve worthwhile or should I skip it and find a 12?
