    Great video Jon. It really is hard to beat those Glen Moray expressions for value and for easy-drinking. Great sentiments at the end too. My 8 year-old daughter is doing her school work from home now, my wife is working from home and I've just finished my first of 12 weeks of not going out as I'm in the high risk category. Trying to make the learning as much fun as possible and as for the Wii - got mine back up and running again too, only to discover my daughter is a speed demon on Mario Kart and is roundly kicking my butt! Stay safe buddy.

    Love watching your videos from your covered deck, really nice for you to be able to comfortably sit out there, even in Alberta where it's still full winter. Kudo's to the video quality as well, looks like one of those high res camera's you have. Looking forward to more of your video's in these depressing times, I am currently enjoying the last of my Laphroaig Lore which came from the UK at a reasonable price (compared to Canada) , rich and peaty stuff and highly recommended. Cheers.

      Mmmm. Laphroig Lore would be wonderful, awesome you picked it up in the UK. Thanks for the kind comments, I do feel fortunate to have a deck that let's me get outside before it's really outside weather. The video? The trick is the lighting. I am actually just shooting on my cellphone, but with natural light it comes across OK. I hope you are OK.

    Have never tried this before, almost picked up a bottle a few weeks ago but found a Deanston Virgin Oak for a great price so went that way. I do have a Glen Moray 12 year old which isn't bad. Nice job Jon, thanks again! Cheers!

    I have three expressions of it, as I am lucky to get them for 13€, by order of preference, Elgin classic, port finish and sherry finish, for that price not much better that you can get, that is my opinion. Simple whisky at a very reasonable price.

    Great review + comparison there. I enjoy affordable bottles. Let’s you explore more without breaking the bank. Haven’t had either of these but if I see it on sale. I’ll be sure to grab at least one. We’re doing ok at the moment just doing our part to stop it from spreading. For a second there I thought you said you dusted off your weed. I had to rewind to make sure 😆 video games to keep us from going crazy. Cheers buddy stay healthy 🥃

    Having another dram of the goodridge & Williams northern grains while watching this and alternating with a bottle of Ardmore. Both nice bottles for relatively budget prices. (50 bucks each in Ontario)

      Nice! I need to get a hold of Goodridge & Williams. I know I've said that before. Is the Northern Grains sherried? I feel like you mentioned some of those notes. Good prices for both!

      Yes, well almost. It’s finished in red wine casks from the okanagan valley. A very candied dram with some nice wood notes and caramel.

    I'm not the biggest fan of sherry, but I do really enjoy this Glen Moray and here in the states you can get it for $30 a bottle. It's not a sherry bomb like a Glenfarclas either, which really turned me off of sherry. I'm interested to try some of their other offerings, they have a port cask, and a chardonnay cask finish as well for the same price.

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  Před 4 lety +1

      This is certainly a gentle sherry. It's interesting that you enjoy this approach more than me, yet I like sherry bombs like Glenfarclas! So cool that there is such variety in our industry. I have not had the port finish, but it sound interesting to me. I'm going to shoot the Chardonnay tomorrow or the next day. It might agree with you, but not my favourite. I like this bottle more. Take care

    Thanks for the review, I've been drinking there peated and thought wow so good. I compared it with highland park magnus same price where I'm at so different and both real good. I think these glen moray are nice they kinda clunky on the palette.

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  Před 4 lety

      I enjoy them as a relaxed or easy sipper. I'm not sure I will seek them out, but if they drop on sale again, I would be willing to pick up again. I am certainly glad I have them and a few at the same time so I can compare how finishing affects their malt. I would strongly recommend HP 12 over either of these, but I don't have a bottle of Magnus so I can't make that comparison. Cheers!

    What would you recommend for a Sherry starter: Glen Moray Sherry or Glenfarclas 12?

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  Před 3 lety +1

      glen Moray is a lighter dram. Nice sherry, but still relaxed. Glanfarclas is darker so richer notes, but they can come off burnt or sulfured a bit. If it is your first ex-sherry ever, you may want to start with Glen moray.

    The next whiskey I would like to try ( when I have some money) is The Irish Whiskey; WRITERS TEARS COPPER POT.
    And I would love to taste 1776 (James E. Pepper Bourbon) But it is to expensive for me..;

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  Před 4 lety +1

      Perhaps. Two of my favourite whiskies of all time are ex-sherry. Glendronach Single Cask 11 year and Redbreast 12 Year Cask strength. I think what I don't appreciate is perfume heavy sherry. I do like leathered fruit or tobacco notes from deep, heavy sherry. Oh, like Glenfarclas 105. Love that bottle too. This one is OK, because it does not have the perfume notes, but it's not great, since it's missing the deep, tobacco\prune notes too. I hope you are well and able to ride out our current challenges.
