James Garner (1928 - 2014) was an American actor and producer. He starred in several television series over more than five decades, including popular roles such as Bret Maverick in the 1950s Western series Maverick and as Jim Rockford in the 1970s private detective show, The Rockford Files. He played leading roles in more than 50 theatrical films, including The Great Escape (1963) with Steve McQueen, Paddy Chayefsky's The Americanization of Emily (1964) with Julie Andrews, Grand Prix (1966), Marlowe (1969), Support Your Local Sheriff! (1969), Support Your Local Gunfighter (1971), The Castaway Cowboy (1974), and with Toshiro Mifune, Blake Edwards's Victor/Victoria (1982) with Julie Andrews, and Murphy's Romance (1985) with Sally Field, for which he received an Academy Award nomination. Garner's career and popularity continued through another decade in movies like Space Cowboys (2000) with Clint Eastwood, and The Notebook (2004) with Gena Rowlands. and his tv role as Jim Egan in 8 Simple Rules (2003-2005).
The Rockford Files is an American detective drama television series starring James Garner that aired on the NBC network between September 13, 1974, and January 10, 1980, and has remained in syndication to the present day. Garner portrays Los Angeles-based private investigator Jim Rockford, with Noah Beery Jr. in the supporting role of his father, Joseph Rockford, a retired truck driver nicknamed "Rocky". The show was created by Roy Huggins and Stephen J. Cannell. Huggins created the television show Maverick (1957-1962), which starred Garner, and he wanted to recapture that magic in a "modern day" detective setting. In 2002, The Rockford Files was ranked No. 39 on TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time.
Tom Snyder (1936-2007) was an American television personality, news anchor, and radio personality best known for his late-night talk shows Tomorrow, on the NBC television network in the 1970s and 1980s, and The Late Late Show, on the CBS Television Network in the 1990s. 'Tom Snyder was a pioneering figure in broadcast journalism who brought a no non-sense attitude to broadcast television news. Loved by millions, respected by peers, and resisted by the executives for speaking his mind.'

Anybody more cool than James Garner?
@@vanmoody Nope! He was the best.
AMEN AMEN

Man, there are just so many people to miss. Getting old is sad sometimes. All your hero’s are gone.

My uncle was a ‘big shot’ in the sports car aftermarket industry. I attended a IMSA event with him many years ago and sat with him, A.J. Foyt, Al Unser Jr. & James Garner at the same table. Will never forget that day. James Garner was such a kind and respectful man. I was shocked at how ‘regular dude’ he was. It was like sitting with your mechanic buddies. All those guys talking engines and smoking cigs. I was treated as if I were one of the fellas.
James Garner is a GOD!
I forget if it was Steve McQueen he didn't really care for or Charlton Heston or both but if you look it up you can find some info about his relationships with both of those men
Jim was so handsome and just kept getting more handsome! He exudes honesty and charm. He had no idea how great he was. Absolutely love the Rockford files! great interview!
"You know, Jim, as a surprise to you, and we weren't gonna tell you this . . ." LOL!! Tom Snyder really had a quick, sharp wit. I loved this talk show.
“What if *I* rang your doorbell?” 😂
James garner makes ...being candid...a noble way of being ...something not very many ppl in the public eye can do or even do well ...he will be sorely missed ...RIP
He IS sorely missed
Rockford Files best show ever !!!! my favorite
Rockford & 'Angel'.....what a combo.
The Rockford Files was one of my all time favorite shows. Another great interview. Thanks!
Your welcome. Good interview again thanks to Tom & Jim Garner.
Rockford files is my current ringtone on my phone! Always get thumbs up looks!
How did you get it?
@@Wapap App called "Ringdroid". Played the theme song on my computer and held my phone up to the speaker and had Ringdroid record and set as default ringtone.
MR Garner was by far my favorite actor and I miss him. I don't care for the new ones in Hollywood outside of very few of them. Great video THANKS
I loved Tom Snyder show, wish he was still around! And James Garner, Maverick & Rockford watched every week RIP both of you, very much missed & loved ❤❤
I am from the UK loved the Rockford Files as a kid i have just got the full series on dvd love watching
them late at night .
Great shows…I have that set as well and watch them from time to time.
Enjoy!
Me, too!!
Always admired Mr. Garner what a great interview.
I became very sleep derived watching Tom Snyder's "Tomorrow" show. His interviews were wonderful, his laugh was contagious, and his eyes mezermerizing! As for James Garner I adored him, and I loved his work. Bought a Firebird because of the Rockford Files!!!!
The Rockford Files is the best show of all time.
I totally agree.
Agree!!
Snyder was such a great host.......felt like you were just sitting there listening to a good friend tell you a story
I used to watch the Rockford Files reruns when I was around middle school and just loved them.
Tom Snyder was a class act.
Excellent interview always. Well informed.
9:45 I feel Rockford was much more in-depth, even spiritual. The Rockford structure always let you know why characters did what they did, and based storylines on current events, hence the often used "mob" influence. You really felt like you actually knew Jim, Noah, Joe, Stuart, Luis del Gado, James Luisi, Gretchen, Dennis Dugan, ALL from right down the street. Only 3 of these people are still here physically, so sad, because they made you feel like family. It was an amazing time, I'll never forget the 70s.
My family watched the Rockford Files all the time, we had a aunt that we used to call Rockfish she could find out anything like old Jim Rockford working on a PI case. LOL. RIP and Thank you for your service to the Country.
My favorite PI show and I really admire Mr Garner great person and great actor truly miss him
Been a big fan since forever, but if I had to pick a film that perfectly encapsulates everything that's great about James Garner, it would be "Support Your Local Sheriff".
Support your local sheriff and sequel Support your local gunfighter, we're personal projects Garner created thru his own production company ' Cherokee Productions' , padded with personal friends from Garner's Maverick days. By all accounts they were fun projects to be involved with, and it shows. Fun to watch even today. They pioneered the western/comedy genre. I can safely assume all of Garner's old friends jumped at the chance to work with such a personable and charming lead as James Garner.
@@sciencedavedunning3415 *were personal projects *his own production company, "Cherokee Productions" which was padded....
@@January. Thanks for exposing my imperfect nature........ I wouldn't want anyone to get the impression that I was some sort of 'demigod of grammer' lol

You're welcome.
I liked the old Tom Snyder show but, I loved Dan Aykroyd's spoof of him even more.
Jim Garner was a genuine man's man, one of the last along with Steve McQueen, Lee Marvin, Paul Newman and a handful of others. The Last of a dying breed for sure.
Aykroyd was hilarious as Tom Snyder. I'm shocked I can't much on CZcams. I remember him interviewing Mick Jagger and thinking it was brilliant.
@@michaelwalsh564 I remember Letterman interviewing Mick Jagger and Jagger making fun of Letterman's college because Letterman asked about Jagger's lack of university credentials, calling it the college of balls or something to that effect.
Love love love them
Love James
And love Tom xx
Such a great man always will be missed
I used to stay up when I was a kid to watch Toms shows after SNL and SCTV on Friday nights. No other kids I knew liked talk shows but Tom was such a sincere and genuine host. I remember he used to smoke during his interviews in the 70s
That was a great time for tv. I was a kid in the SNL, All In The Family, Don Kirschner's Rock Concert, Rockford, Chico & The Man and more era.
My late mom was madly in love with James Garner and would watch Maverick and Rockford Files all the time. Just had to say that…
God bless you James, God bless you Tom, loved you both! RIP
I miss shows like this. James Garner is the best.
he survived abusive childhood and became great actor and had great life,
Tom had great voice and flair for interviewing
Yes, he was one of the best at what he did.
Yep, one of a kind, better than Johnny - I loved his laughter so much, I hope he’s in heaven making everyone laugh 😂😂😂😂😂
The Americanization Of Emily is one of the best.
Two congenial men having a great conversation.
This makes me want to go do a Rockford J-turn in my Corolla.
Man no wonder I like him he just wants things simple, work go home,be with family, just like me.great actor.
I absolutely loved James Garner. You could sense what a fine human being he was. I miss him.
God is enjoying Jim in heaven! God please rest James Garner's soul.
I walked right by Garner before the Grand Prix race in Monaco one time
Tom was the best talk host for many years.I thank him for his work that i enjoyed. Alway a good show.
Thank you again
My pleasure. Another good interview. Thanks to Tom and his quality of guests.
Murphy's Romance was sweet and great!
James garner changed my entire life to better ! RIP MY FRIEND .
Great clip. James was cool as hell, and Tom was a lovable square. Both were class acts 👌
James Gardner, one of my favorite actors ... Support Your Local Sheriff, Support your Local Gunfighter, Rockford Files, Maverick ... His style was so humble and enjoyable.
JIMMY ROCK - the BEST
James Garner- the BEST
2 gentlemen from another era, an arguably kinder time, never to be seen again RIP gentlemen
Absolutely a great interview. It is really an art form.
Much like Cary Grant, Garner strikes me as a man who made a very good career just playing himself in film after film. When you're that easy going and likeable, why play anyone else?
Best dude ever.
This was one of the best interview shows.
*I haven't seen James Garner in much, but he and Joanne Woodward were excellent in a TV movie called "Breathing Lessons." It was absolutely believable that they were a couple who had been married for a long time! If you haven't seen it, I recommend it highly.*
He was great with women actresses. They must have liked him.Sally Field was never better than with him.
@@johnschuh8616 I recall an interview with Sally when promoting the film they did together, Murphy's Romance. She said when he kissed her (as their characters) - in real life she swooned, weak in the knees, it was a real soul kiss that she'd never forget
Tom Snyder was great and James Garner to, class act.
james garner is the man , if you don't like it , FARK YOU ....
Tom was lampooned by many during his career, but this shows just how excellent an interviewer he was. This interview is chock full of facts I never knew about Mr. Garner. I stilll watch Rockford reruns, and I'm am very happy to see Tom's show clips now on CZcams. Tom made late night after Carson a regular time slot before Letterman got his show. Tom's interviews were in depth covering a surprisingly wide variety of guests. The most underrated of all late night hosts.
I just found this channel and i love it. I enjoyed the Late Late Show
I miss James Bumgarner. I’m an Okie and former Sooner footballer. For many years his voice was heard to bring the football team onto the field with “This is Oklahoma football”. He has a statue, depicting him as Maverick, in Norman on the corner of Main Street and Jones Avenue. My favorite movie of his is “Murphy’s Romance” because in it he plays the type of clean, calm man he really was in life. Sad when he passed.
Great actor and human being. Loved the Rockford Files.
I could listen to this man talk about any subject for hours.
completely charming person. One of the all time greats...
The story of him getting into it with step mother was hysterical. Would have love to have been there.
Fine interview, which " Completely " Debunked The Image " I'd Had of James Garner previously!! James Garner has always seemed like a very kind person to me. Interesting that one of the most uncharitable things I've heard him say about someone else was about Reagan.
Great one! One of the best!
I Really Enjoyed Your Video.... Big Fan
Thanks for watching.
Love his honesty.
That is no act James Garner is a good guy!!
When listed Mr. Garners movie and TV achievements, Why is "Grand Prix" rarely ever mentioned. Probably the best racing movie ever made.
Brilliant!!!
Love you James
Two genuine men.....unlike today
Jim was a class act, a role model… rip
I liked the Rockford files but wonder why he felt it necessary to diminish Reagan.
Reagan was a bad SAG president, and a bad U.S. president, and Garner doesn’t lie.
Garner was a big liberal Democrat. He let his partisanship get the best of him regarding Reagan. As it has come out over the years Reagan was a hands on president. He was also an active and effective SAG president, in negotiations with studios, and rooting out communist influence in the union.
License plate was OKG-853
Miss u Jim
TOM SNYDER WAS SO GOOD
The best.
Actors like these are few and far between.
I loved Jim also in Sayonara and the Great Escape. I may be the only one to think that they really missed out on the complete legends by not casting Jim in The Magnificent Seven as Harry.
tom is a class act. was.
What a great guy: Honest, kind, great actor, Democrat, smart. So sad that he’s gone . . .I was always a fan of his .
We now have an infinite variety of interview shows, on podcast and TVs, and very few have quality interviewers like Tom Snyder and Studs Terkel. With cultural deterioration people now think of Letterman as a competent interviewer.
LEtterman was a comedian first, a grouch second, and an interviewer third. He had his moments. His new show is quite good. Tom, OTOH, was a reporter first, and it shows.
Love rockfish. 42 years a working actor. how few?
Margie…what if I knocked on your door? Haha
Hey xx,
Most heroes are gone.
I miss the 90s TV shows. People were more interesting and the content of shows was better than the crap on there now.
I thought agoraphobia was the fear of Open Spaces not public speaking
“Gar NER” lady
Vikki from Texas: His name is "Garner."
You're from Texas.... That explains everything.
Agoraphobia is the fear of Open Spaces
Glossophobia is fear of public speaking.
That stepmother Wilma of his was EVIL - what a ruined childhood!
Jim didn’t know what Reagan did in the 1940s. And I guess she didn’t know that Reagan wrote his own radio scripts. But Hollywood never forgave Reagan for his anti-communism, for jumping the anti-New bandwagon.
Boy, he does a job on Wilma . . .
For gods sake people, don't hit our kids. Ever!
Tomorrow show not late late show
Tomorrow Show (1973-1981)
JIMMY ROCK FOREV V V V ER
I was born 1990. And I decided to become an actor all because of guys like James Garner. I miss REAL, RAW talent such as James Garner. Even as people they were much cooler, better people, had more charisma than 99.9% of all actors today. I ONLY draw inspiration from guys like him. I wrote him fanmail when I was a kid and even got a signed photo, I still have it. James Garner was amazing.
I miss the days of Tom Snyder & Johnny Carson, etc. Today's show hosts are blah!
Craig Furguson was excellent too.
James was a Democrat so would have had a political mind yet thought that becoming a politician would be like being in a den of vipers.I agree with him but why do we vote for these vipers? I think it is because these vipers started a "system" a couple of thousand years ago then refind it to what it is today where an elite actually get we the people to vote for them . Churchill once said that "our system was the best of the rotten lot" . The only thing a politician fears is for the people not to vote even Putin has the elusion of a voting system.
I love Jim Garner and have since childhood ....... hope my admiration for him isn't shot if I watch this entire clip, only to find out he's a liberal loon. I heard his comment about Ronald Reagan.
What the hell. What the hell🚬
