Tom Snyder was an incredibly gifted broadcaster. He conducted the most compelling interviews with the most interesting people.
Agreed. Tom's interviews with Sterling Hayden in particular are among my favorite televised interviews ever.
@@oldtimeradionut Thank you so much for your comment. I think Tom Snyder was the best conversationalist. I don't think we will ever see any tv program again that is conversational.
I don't think Howard would be happy with the state of the world right now.
@@zulyhallelujah9257 Guaranteed!
With Howard sitting 4 feet away, "Stay tuned for next week's interview with Marilyn Chambers..."
Tom was nimble.
Cosell was the best sports journalist ever. He was smart and painfully honest. He was one of a kind.
Howard being Howard... telling it like it was !
Always, Bill! 😀
Tom Snyder was the best interviewer I have ever seen.
He really was insightful. I don't know of anyone today who could hold a conversation like Tom could. Seems every TV interview today is 3 minutes. I was so lucky to have worked on "Tomorrow".
@@TomChasuk I got to know about Tom Snyder when he did the late show. Back when I used to stay up late every night to watch him. LOL! I stopped watching any late night pretty much after his show went off.
@@chrisgreulich I never watch any late night TV. None compare to Tom Snyder.
What a treat to listen to Howard. Love him or hate him, he was one of a kind.
You are so right! 😊
"One of a kind" was Howard.
He's missed.
The most eloquent sportscaster ever
So true. 😃
I loved that voice. This Howard Cosell in New York speaking of sports.
@@cudaus1 I accidentally removed the last response to TJ The person,”AP”, commented “Tom Snyder wasn’t a sportscaster?” . I was trying to reply that Howard Cosell was the sportscaster. I didn’t mean to remove his comment and I apologize.
@@TomChasuk I was being sarcastic and giving Tom Snyder his due lol
lol 😂
Man, I miss both these guys!! Both are very intelligent, interesting and hilarious all rolled up in one!! RIP to both gentlemen.
I agree. They should have had their own show.😃
“ Strip one American citizen 🇺🇸 of those rights and you break all of them “! Wow sounds like a similar situation going on Today ! Great interview with two giants of classic Television 📺!
Completely agree!😃
wow, Howard was great. articulate, insightful, smart. tom's great too.
We agree, John. I’m glad you enjoyed the interview. 😊
Snyder & Cosell....2 Gentlemen who's celebrated careers were only exceeded by the love they had for their careers & the joy & interest they gave the people!
Thanks Glen, I love your comment!😍
Good Lord, that was simply one of the most rivetting conversations I've heard in a long time. but of course, those were the standard honest interview shows that took place in the 60s and 70s.
I agree, Corea. I don’t think there are any shows that come close.
I love Hward's cadence.
I see what you mean! I think that’s why I could listen to him for hours! 😀
Howard was a riot...pure entertainment
This is the best interview of Howard Cosell I’ve seen. Thank you for your comment.
God Bless Howard and Salute 🫡 to Tom Snyder and Rest In Peace to both of them!🙏
Love this, Adrian. 😍
I interviewed Howard in Huntsville, Al in 1980 I was so intimidated.
Was he friendly?
The only thing better than Tom’s skill as an interviewer was his hair.
And he was a great interviewer.
Notice how he didn’t jump in and interrupt Cosell, who needed absolutely no help in making a point.
But he could also be accommodating to other guests who weren’t nearly as articulate.
And both of these guys - Howard and Tom - were excellent on the radio.
That is so true, Charles. 😀
Thanks Tom. Great stuff.
You’re very welcome, Enrique.😊
I loved to hear Snyder laugh!🤣
Yes, and it was very infectious!😃
@@TomChasuk gotta watch Ace Frehley after this.
@@bigroy38 Roy, That is the funniest clip of Ace!🤣
I'm so glad you post these shows. There were two other Snyder shows recently uploaded to another site, but they were removed (not sure why), and I'm glad I was able to locate them here.
Thank you, Paul...and thank you for watching.😃
I love Howard’s linguistics….his use of language …..he call d an ace an ace …..and unapologetic for it
Michael, that is so true. Is there anyone today you could say the same thing about?😃
Down goes Frazia! Down goes Frazia! Down goes Frazia!
@@TomChasuk Cosell's language was so overblown and pretentious.
@@humanbeing2420 I know other have that opinion too, but I find it entertaining. I also like to hear someone who has a large vocabulary...probably because I don't. I appreciate your commenting. Thanks for watching!
Howard was a blast! Do I denote a touch of truculence Ali? He and Ali were a team.
In 1980, we had Cosell. In 2024, we have Stephen A Smith. Intellectual freefall.
Thank you, DrMidnight. I appreciate your taking time to comment.
Totally agree
Howard was such a wonderfully intelligent person. His points of view and arguments on countless subjects were so interesting and most entertaining. For me anyway.
Hi Finch! Yes, he was both smart and entertaining. 😀
That is the longest hair I have ever seen Tom Snyder with.
Same here 😂
I think Tom's relationship with his pet sheepdog got a bit out-of-hand.
70's style for sure!
What a pleasure .. I saw Howard walking in front of Radio City Music Hall .. he looked just like Howard .. that's it: Howard was always Howard !
Thanks, John. Loved your comment! 😊
@@TomChasuk I don't know who you are but Howard is exemplary in that - just as with many extraordinary Americans, we didn't get it. To hear Howard explain, constitutionally, exactly why he responded as he did in Muhammad Ali's case, is to receive a very necessary intensive course in jurisprudence.
Do we have any in sports broadcasting today with a moral and ethical north such as Howard's .. I know that I don't have a name to offer in this regard.
.. which makes all the words he spoke ever so much more golden ..
@@johnwakefield8570 There is one person who is very good at explaining the Constitution. He's not a sportscaster. He's a radio talk show and TV host. Mark Levin. Thanks so much for commenting.
Cossell was always entertaining . i liked his dry sense of humor
Agreed. He was so funny!😂
I miss Cosell. Nobody like him .I did always agree with him but his integrity and passion for whatever sport he was talking about.....i can still hear him on his radio program, he would start " This is Howard Cosell speaking of sports " 😉
Good to hear from you, Don. Yes he was very passionate. You could tell he loved what he was doing.😀
Never missed Tom Snyder and his Guests in the 1970s 12 midnight San Antonio
That is so nice to hear, Edward! I was so fortunate to work on “Tomorrow” both in Burbank and New York. I miss those days!
When you look at the football commentators today nobody comes close to Howard. Nobody !
He had a gift to be able to make the most boring football game tolerable if not exciting. Loved his interactions with Dandy Don Meredith.
Thx for posting. 2 of the most compelling broadcasters ever
So true, Robert! 😍
I met Howard in Philadelphia at the Sheraton Hotel he was such a friendly guy and made me feel like I was a good friend , I was surprised how tall he was and a nice dresser and so smart.
Thank you for sharing your story! It’s nice to hear how friendly he was. 😀
Cosell loved Ali.
Cosell was his greatest defender.😊
@@TomChasuk In fact, in one interview that he did with Ali I believe he did tell him that he loved him.
@@cudaus1 I'll have to check that out 😄
Give them hell Howard...Tom get a haircut
Howard was a genius
I was a huge Howard Cosell fan as a kid. I was always looking up his words in the dictionary.
I like your story! 😊 I’m still looking up his words! 😊
Howard Coselle was ABC sports .. was MN football... told the story the right way...
I’m with you, Richard!
I love how Cossell points out the hypocrisy and greed of the baseball owners. At the beginning of the interview.
He wasn’t afraid to tell it as/like it is! 👍 Thanks for watching and for commenting! 😀
@12:35.., The man was decades before his time.
notice they didn't talk about his feud with sports writer Oscar Madisoy...
I don’t remember that. I’ll have to look it up.
Howard was once momentarily speechless.
It was during WABC's radio wrap-up of Super Bowl III.He told play by play announcer,Merle Harmon:"I don't know what to say,Merle."
Then he recovered and was marvelous for the remainder of the epilogue.
I'll be the first to admit that, as a young man, I found HC unpleasant, even angering. But I now mark his passing as a signal blow to, not only sports broadcasting, but broadcasting in the general. He truly spoke truth to power. Today, American journalism is in a terrible state; Cosell's passing didn't cause it -- but his death helped to usher in an era of quailing incompetence.
How true! Thank you for your comment. 😀
I grew up watching and listening to HC in the 1970s. Mr. Corsell was fearless in the broadcasting both. He never sugarcoated his commentaries. If he called a coach, manager, player, commissioner, owner or even a fan a useless idiot, unless they prove him wrong, he stood by his words. There was no apology, no cancel culture. It was just Mr. Cosell being himself, expressing his colorful opinion.
@@mutleymutley7474 There aren’t any like him that I can think of can you? 😀
@@TomChasuk None! Everybody in sports broadcasting today is on eggshells. Can you imagine HC addressing a transgender athlete today? I can. He would not be short of words.
@@mutleymutley7474YOU ARE SO RIGHT! No opinions of their own…only “group think”.
HOWARD HAD THE CHARISMA TO SCRATCH THE UNDERBELLY OF OUR IGNORANCE....A PROVOCATEUR
He was so good. Thank you for commenting and for watching.
He was under our underbelly because he was a bloodsucking parasitic insect.
So true!😊
ABC eventually did put him on Monday Night Baseball and he stayed with ABC until he was removed for telling the truth something too many in North America hate hearing about.
Was a great professional
Yes both of them were.😊
That was a different one. I’ve heard it.
The in-depth interview with Lennon was a separate Cosell radio program.
Boy was Howard right about networks and sports.
He sure was! Thank you for commenting, Randall. 😊
Two great quirky smart broadcasters
Yes they are both so funny in this interview. Thanks for commenting.
I’ll never forget Monday night football when he announced the death of John Lennon
Thank you, Michael. So horrible.
It's May, 2024. Can you imagine anything approaching this on TV now? It would alienate 95% of the slack-jawed viewing public. President Camacho - next stop.
I can’t see another show like this again. There aren’t any hosts like Tom…and there are few guests who will tell it like it is. 😊
Howard's finest moment was commentating on Fielding Melish's honeymoon night.
It was for sure! It was a closely contested contest with an abrupt ending no one saw coming. Still waiting for the rematch!
I haven’t seen the movie “Bananas”…but now I have too 😀
@@TomChasuk The entire movie is worth a look but if you're just interested in the Cosell parts, they are at the very beginning and end of the movie. Would take all of 10 minutes to watch...funny stuff!
Great 👍
Thank you, beagleman
The good things about Howard Cosell. He changed sports interviews forever. He was the first to ask really tough questions. He was the greatest boxing announcer in history. Without a doubt. The bad things about Howard Cosell, except for halftime highlights, which he was genius, he wasn’t a good football announcer. And he knew absolutely nothing about baseball.
Hey, shackdaddy, thank you for commenting! 😀
Well now that was interesting!
Can't have outspoken people like Tom and Howard on MSM these days.
Sad!
You are so right!😥
or truth tellers on fox/russia today like media.
My favorite John Lennon interview of all time was the one he did on Cosell’s radio show.
The two of them really hit it off, and I’ve never heard Lennon sound so intelligent.
They talked about his legal status in the States and related subjects.
It’s on CZcams, and I highly recommend listening to it.
Thank you, Charles, I’ll check it out!
I think that was on Monday Night Football.
@@stephenfisch615 No MNF was a short halftime chat. The long interview is a radio interview.
God he talks more about upcoming guests than the guest he has on
"NOOOO.... I THREW UP ON DON MERIDETH!"
That was so funny! 😂
His banter with Ali or with Ali and Frazier was must see classic TV but his bias during Monday night football was nauseating....that's when I would turn on the radio to hear Jack Buck and Hank Stram who I liked
Thanks for commenting, Michael.
Lego hair
I'd rather have Cosel than Legos. Him on Mnf or boxing lured me like a twenty to a hore
I would have loved to see Cosell debate William F. Buckley. The audience would understand 5% of the words spoken
I think I might only understand 2%.😄
A lot of teenagers never heard Howard's Sunday night show on WABC,preferring to listen to rock music on WKBW from Buffalo.
He loved boxing and Ali
I loved your comment, Michael. Thanks for watching! 😀
It may have been at Ali's TV retirement party hosted by Billy Cristal.
Ali made Cosell. Cosell followed Ali around the world until the public took notice,
Cosell promoted the notion of social justice in this interview, and ironically, social justice is what eventually took him down. SJWs always figure they are beyond approach
Y’all just say silly stuff all the time, social justice, isn’t about waiting for someone to say something silly and than want them to be canceled! Social justice is about changing laws that discriminate against a group of people, it’s about leveling the playing field,so folks who don’t look like you get the same opportunity you have in every aspect of life from, business to housing to law enforcement.. read sometimes you might learn 😮
The man was a lawyer who believed in law and order. If you think that's SJW that's on you. What is next? The 5th and 14th Amendments are woke? You are dense
The meaning of “social justice” has changed. Back in the day, it meant something honorable. Fighting for civil rights, calling out injustice where you saw it. Today, it’s used ironically - as if people no longer comprehend that fighting for justice is a truly noble human instinct. Now, it’s ridiculed. Which is a real shame.
Boy, Cosell had a concept almost 50 years ago about what we now struggle with which is the almost end of free broadcast sports. You can't watch baseball without paying for a subscription service and the NFL is quickly moving into pay per view games on an increasing basis. NBA has escaped so far but will soon I'm sure be a part of it too. Howard had a great knowledge and a business understanding that was, and is still lacking in most sports announcers/analysts.
I don't think the announcers are about to bite the hand that feeds them.
I get to watch 3 games on Sunday, and then Monday nite, only the Thursday game is pay per view, ( most Thursday games r mediocre, only 3 days rest, ,
The playful, tongue-in-cheek parley between Cosell and Muhammad Ali was pure delight but sadly, in the end, Howard's indignant remarks and gripes about his colleagues were not.
1976 interview.
Per the “slate”. ..”VTR DATE TUES JUNE 8, ‘76-7:35P…PB (playback) WEDS-JUNE 9, ‘76-1AM”
Cossel is good, but ANNOYING.
Well, Freddy, we can’t all agree 😊 I found him to be quite entertaining. I appreciate your taking time to comment. Thank you.
That's the way I feel about bad spellers.
Lego hair
I'm sorry, could you repeat that...
