Peter Tork & Micky Dolenz sing "I'm a Believer" & "Daydream Believer" with the Davy Jones Band at the Davy Jones Memorial at BB King's in NYC on April 3, 2012.
5:45.. Peter saw his friend struggling with emotions in the loss of his friend and stepped up to sing with him and help him through it. Even made a little joke to distract him. What a sweet man he was.

Davy was the heartbreaker for all the girls. If we weren't fighting over Paul it was Davy Jones. I can't believe at such a young age he just passed so suddenly. But he was at his favorite place at least. I hope he's up there looking down on us all and smiling. Thank you for the memories.
To hear Mickey cry and have trouble with the words to Davy's song is not only a touching tribute to the memory of Davy Jones, but also a true heart felt emotion from Mickey Dolenz to his friend for almost 50 years...Davy Jones. Thank you Peter, Mickey and Mike for all the memories that you gave our generation. Davy, THANK YOU....and please rest in peace.
Poor Micky, when he started crying, so did i. Davy should have never died, but we won't let him die, as long as the Monkees are remembered in song and show, Davy's spirit will live on forever. We miss you Davy, where evert you are... thanks for giving us the daydream of a lifetime...
I feel so fortunate to have grown up in the 60's and 70's experiencing wonderful music, TV shows, comedians that were actually funny, being told by my Mom to "don't stay indoors, go out and play and be back by 5 for supper", my Dad giving me a .22 bolt action rifle when I was 11 and teaching me to shoot and respect firearms, going bike riding without a helmet.......this video sadly reminds me of how many wonderful parts of my youth are gone forever...including my youth.
Aretha Franklin is an honored singer . She sang great songs written by great songwriters while musicians filled out the sound. So The Monkees were a TV show about a fictitious band. The Actors really sang the songs and became a band. They had many great hits with many top notch session musicians, just like Aretha. The Monkees started out as a concept and became real. At quite a stretch, for a while they outsold The Beatles and the Stones. I must confess, one time I walked 20 miles round trip to a record store and bought a Monkees album as a present for my sister. Our teen years were spent playing lps and 45s and The Monkees records were all a part of that. Another band from that era, take a look back at The McCoys. All great music.
It's impossible to watch this without tearing up. Mickey so bravely wore that emotion so many were feeling but not at a fraction of the depth and meaning he was pulling from. It's so raw, its visceral.
L Martinez I think whatever one's relationship is with another through the years, the craft of doing something together over a long period forms an undeniable bond. I would be hard pressed to think this was a throw away gesture just for the fans.
L Martinez Mickey & Davy were very close & you can hear the pain in his voice, he’s struggling to get thru each song but he is an entertainer & knows the show must go on.... and so it does with the help of the audience. Bless you Mickey. RIP Davy & Peter 💙👏🏼👏🏼🥀
just watched this video. oh, God so emotional! was a wee baby in 60's, but sang along. always knew Monkees were a family. Micky and co lost a brother! spoke for us all, when he got choked up. i live in UK, and fell into my son's arms sobbing, when I heard. still choked now. heavens got a damn fine chior!!!😥😞😭
Watching and crying. I know it sounds crazy, but when you grow up with bands like The Beatles and The Monkees every time one of them passes you feel like a part of your life has gone with them. It happened when John Lennon was killed, when my favorite George Harrison passed and when Davy passed.
“ if you enjoyed the show, tell your friends… if you didn’t, tell him you saw David Cassidy” needed this laugh at the end so badly. Balling my eyes out 😭
A Monkee fan from 1970 at 5 years old. I thought they were wild and funny and they've been with me these last 45 years at the ripe old age of 50. They were, in my opinion, the greatest example of boy band success and also of making something out of nothing. These guys were insanely popular and deservedly so. R.I.P. Davy.
Beautiful tribute to Davy to have his daughter to come up was wonderful but to see Micky break down - hard to watch. RIP Davy, miss you everytime I watch/hear you or you with The Monkees. Love you guys. Bless you Micky...
+Rush Ron - Mine was in response to saying Davy was the first and only teen idol. I never did get into Elvis. I liked his 70's music better than his 50's stuff. Yes, I think my mom liked the 50's stuff. I couldn't get into his garish 70's outfits though. I was more bell bottom jeans with holes in them and halter tops. LOL! My teen crush was David Cassidy. I thought Jones was cute, but, he was too short. If I'm going to have a crush, I'm going to have to be able to wear my heels. LOL!!
+Cheryl Reiff I graduated in 1977. Grew up watching Davy & The Monkees on tv. Recall a few more teen idols of that era, I think. Bobby Sherman, Donny Osmond & Shaun Cassidy come to mind. I liked 70's era Elvis tunes too. :) I was far more interested in Raquel Welch, Sophia Loren & yes....halter tops + gals that wore them. lol-lol Great memories.
sometimes when we see thing's like this ,we allways think they would last for ever... but the harsh reality they don't. we have to be thank we have people like these guy's that made our world that way for a long time,'' this here is pretty much my childhood'',i wish for one day to have it back !

Tears for Davie. He sang that song so beautiful. I could hide beneath the wings as the blue bird as he sings..... so many beautiful time back then. Happy for these guys that had stuck together through the years and made my day watching them. Yeah, when they used the Monkees songs on Shrek, that was TERRIFIC!
These guys didn't even know each other when they were cast to star in the Monkees together. What a testament to the bond of friendship and musical talent to see Mickey getting emotional singing this song...what other "boy band" will ever have a moment like this? Great band, great memories.
What a great memorial! Miss you so so much Davy! You will always be my favorite little Monkee! :'( We all love you! ♥♪♪♥Rock on, man, rock on! Peace and Love =)
I LOVED watching The Monkees reruns in the 70's or 80's and thought Davy Jones was SOO cute! These guys all cracked me up and were pretty talented! R.I.P. Davy Jones. :(
Hi Guys, what a great video. I’m 64 now, and I used to race home every Saturday to watch The Monkees as a young kid. Great times, great memories, and great guys, with wonderful fun songs. Oh boy, to go back to them times would be something else! Sadly, we’ve now lost Peter and Mike. Rest in heavenly peace guys, and thanks for being a massive part of my life, and bringing to us all, such happiness 🙏🏼❤️
here is a bit of little known trivia, Jimi Hendrix, who was unknown at the time, opened for the Monkee's. Midway during his first song he sat his guitar down on the stage and walked off, as all the girls were screaming, DAVY,DAVY,DAVY. He was pissed to say the least.
This song is not a Monkees song anymore - it belongs to the fans - like they {Micky, Mike & Peter} want and with Davy's blessing...love you Micky, you and Peter and Mike - bless you...you are so respected for what you had to deal with...RIP Davy...miss you everytime I hear this song and that's quite often since my daughter (3 1/2) loves it...
I grew up watching the Monkees,Davy,of course,my favorite. I was stunned when I heard of his death. Watched this around the 1-yr. anniversary & had to turn it off when Mickey started crying. I'm 48, (well in May anyhow) and watched them after kindergarten and after school in the early 70's, as well as at the 20 year mark in the 80's, and I still love these guys as much now as I did then. The music was good the show was funny as hell, and at the center were 4 really cool guys who left a musical legacy that, in your case, has been passed down to you from your father, just the way it should be. Good to see the Monkees are in good hands! :-)
I appreciate this. I felt really bad for Micky when he started crying during the second verse of Daydream Believer. You could tell that Micky really took it hard.
Mickey...Man! not only in emotional pain, but in very visible physical pain, I know this, as i am in bad shape myself! It does suck getting old!!!....May Mike, Peter and Mickey feel peace and may my dear little Davey rest in peace. much love to you guy's for being a big part of my youth! and still today (I am re-watching all of the t.v. show's, over the pat few day's) and am finding myself still giggling over some of the uniquely funny slapstick comedy and good music that they brought to us back then.

Never can get enough of these guys. I grew up with the Monkees. Saw them when they first aired in Sept. of 1966 and I was a 13 year old and I am 61 now and I love them so much. My childhood memories and awesome ones. I am glad that Mike, Micky and Peter are still going strong and keeping their brother, friend and band mate alive. he, my Davy Jones will live on forever and he was my love in my heart. It is so impossible it has been 2 years he left us but I know he is performing in heaven with the angels. I miss you so much Davy like the rest of us and your family and your 3 brothers. Love you Davy, R.I. P.
i was age 10 in 1966 with a new baby brother....looked up from doing my homework in the living room, saw Davy, and was smitten! (THIS IS JOYCE ANTHONY writing)
I love reading the comments from the different generations of fans. What an impact this group had, for only being on the air for two years! Davy was my first crush at 11 when the reruns were played on Nick at Nite in 1996 for the 30th anniversary. And just like you guys from the 1st generation of fans, I had all of their cds. I was so sad when I heard Davy died, watching the Monkees was an important part of my childhood. I still know every word to most of their songs! I will say this, Peter was the best musician, Mike was the best song writer, and Micky the best singer, but Davy was the heart of that group, and without him, it's just not the same. I didn't even like most of the songs he sang (not because of him, but he was given the weird womanizing ones because he was the heart throb), but he managed to make them nice just from his sheer charisma and charm- I didn't really listen to the words of Cuddly Toy for years because of his adorable dance, but now I'm like, oh, eeek. I think one of my biggest regrets was when he came to an autograph signing near me when I was probably 14 or 15. My dad took be to the mall, and I took one of my records, but when I saw the line was mostly older people, and heard that he had been there for hours already, I was embarrassed, and felt bad for him. I didn't get in line, and now I really, really wish I had met him that day. I did make my poor dad carry my record around the mall while I stalled Davy from behind :)
Micky Dolenz: one of the best voices in music history.

Now this is a Memorial Service! What a tribute to Davy!

Technically, Smash Mouth sang a cover of the song and it was put into the first Shrek Movie
Sorry Micky, I like Smash Mouth's version better.
I like both....
Darcy Brummett yuck
Adam Hans

I was six-my first celeb crushes were Paul McCartney, Davy Jones, Donny Osmond, and David Cassidy. Guess who was first?
I sort of know what you feel but I am only 10

i was age 10 in 1966 with a new baby brother....looked up from doing my homework in the living room, saw Davy, and was smitten! (THIS IS JOYCE ANTHONY writing)
All props to the Lonesome Picker John Stewart for writing this classic.

I did make my poor dad carry my record around the mall while I stalled Davy from behind :)
awesome fab voices
can't say anything but
