Mike and Peter were never crazy about each other but no doubt they were brothers. Love to see them play together. I always thought if they could of resolved their differences they could of put together an AMAZING folk group in the early 70's. Mike and Pete are AMAZING Muscians that never got the respect they deserve from the industry. But the fans will always Love and respect them and that is what really matters

Ironically, Peter and Mike were most alike-and spearheaded the rebellion that gave them creative control. Probably makes sense. And they have both acknowledged a deep brotherly connection. Appropriate that MIke named Peter’s great song.

In 1985 a attended a record collectors show. Peter was advertised for a guest appearance. It was winter time. When it was announced it was time for him to perform, apparently he had just arrived. Still had his winter coat on and was carrying a guitar case. He stood in the middle of the floor and as the crowd surrounded him he took off his coat and pulled out his acoustic guitar. Then he said his guitar was cold and would need a few minutes to tune up. Once tuned up he played for 30 or more minutes standing there with everyone just standing around him. That was my Monkee Moment.

Nez mentioned it several times shortly after Peter's passing. Then I bought a copy of Micky's autobiography. It's one of the first things Micky mentioned early on. He said that they each had their opinions as to what direction they should go musically and debated it all the time.
That said, they were definitely like brothers. I'm mostly housebound and I've watched a lot of videos and see photos. They were often seated next to eachother and I saw hugs that were definitely genuine on video. And then there's the interview Nez and Micky did in Australia when they were touring after Peter's passing. Mike starts crying when he talks about his assistant telling him that Peter passed. And as Nez said years prior, brothers in arms

Who knew that Mike named this song?
Mike was the most powerful force making this group a group.
Wish he wanted it to continue.
But it just wasn't meant to be that way.
But it all was more than good enough.
It's a shame things didn't work out in the past for all four of these guys to remain a band the whole time.
But then again, they were put together by other people, so it must be considered pretty amazing they did what they did and are somehow still doing it in whatever form in spite of all the crap they dealt with all these years.
Think about it, it shouldn't have happened, but it did.
Some didn't get along at different times. That happens with normal bands.
But these guys managed to outlive most bands that chose to be a band.
These guys had no choice and ended up making some of the greatest records ever.
    I hope they realize that.
They will no doubt continue to be honored long after we're all gone.
And will be appreciated as they should be.

Tork actually wrote the entire thing. Mike Nesmith, while not always a friend to him, once noted that Pete would share a song writing credit over even the most minor and fleeting of contributions, and the co-writer only made a minor addition to the song.
