    Hey Everyone! I have a 2012 Ninja 650. A few things that I want to point out that Chase did not. For anyone wanting this bike but wants a bit more aggressive stance get Sport-Bars, they help immensly with that. Also this bike can not have a slip-on exhaust. You will have to do a full exhaust swap if you want to upgrade that. Just to note, the inability to put a slip on started with the 2012 and up versions of this bike. Lastly as Chase said this is an amazing first bike. It is my first one and I love it, as far as a commuter bike you easily get 60 MPG, but it has the ability to be comfortable in highway as well as nimble on back roads.

      +SeacoastRide I owned the 2014 model and i loved it, i did trade it in for a 2015 r6 because it wasn't sporty enough for me though. I got loads of compliments on the bike though. I have to say after riding it about 4k miles i had an average of 42 mpgs. but i did ride in the city a lot.

    • @SeacoastRide
      @SeacoastRide Před 8 lety +2

      crewd00d yes, the 60 MPG that I get is the fact that I do a lot of highway riding commuting to and from work, but yes the mid 40's in city is average. I probably will not upgrade for a while just due to the fact that since this is considered a Sport TOURING bike insurance is excellent and it satisfies all my current wants in a motorcycle.

      ***** Ninja650 is better on gas and has more usable torque and also a million times more comfortable. The R6 makes its power at higher rpm's and has a faster top speed. Ninja650 gets about 50mpg and R6 gets about 40mpg

    I just bought a 300 (1 week ago) but then but the bullet and lost money for depreciation and traded it for the 650. I really haven't had a chance to open either one up because they were brand new and not broke in, but the 650 seems far faster. The difference is when you are on a highway, the 650 does 75mph quite easily where the 300 was up in the RPMs. The 300 had a more sporty feel, it was like you were laying on the handlebars, the 650 is more of an upright feeling (not too much pressure on the wrist). The 300 handled better (lighter) and it was the awsome green, whereas the 650 is black with the green shock. (they didn't have a green 650) I have to be honest and let my vanity show, but I am currently living in the Philippines, and ninjas here or like Ferraris in America, very few people have ninjas, and everybody is jealous and loves the way they look. I think the main reason I traded in my ninja 300 was the cause I was afraid that someone was going to think, "oh, it is just a 300". I know that is stupid to spend that much money just so I can say "it's the 650!", but that is how I am, I am stupid. And no, I will not be buying the Ninja 1000, there is absolutely no place in this country you would ever be able to take advantage of it. In fact the 300 is more than enough bike for this country, like I said I just traded it in for a status thing.

      How do you like living there. I was born there, but moved to the states when I was 5. I’ve visited a couple times and you’re right, ninjas are like luxury over there. With everyone owning 150cc bikes, those become the civics and corollas. I understand your view tho, sometimes you want to stand out from the rest of the group. Nothing wrong with that as long as you’re not going overboard with it. Stay safe

    I'm currently riding one on my A2 license (UK) and I love mine. The bike sounds a million times better with a good pipe on it, I'd say it's pretty much mandatory with a bike like this. It's got enough power to be safe when overtaking but it's not going to blow your face off. I'd easily recommend it to anyone doing their A2. If you think the black looks good you should see the green, I saw the green and instantly purchased the bike.

      Fz6r all day... i picked that over this bike despite no abs. Im 6'3" and the position my legs were in with the fz vs. the position of the ninja made my final decision but ultimately ive ridden both bikes and i liked them both. The fz was a little more sporty but still a good commuter. The wind protection sucks for taller riders unless you go aftermarket. If my legs werent so long i probably would have went with the ninja for abs option but the fz is my favorite bike that ive owned.

    My first bike was (and still is) a 2009 Ninja 650 and I absolutely love it. I've had it for over 2 years now and I'm so glad I didn't start on a 300 or even a 500. This bike has a lot going for it IMO. It runs super well, gets great gas mileage, and has a decent amount of torque (when you're in the right range) which keeps it fun. It's also great in the twisties and it wasn't very expensive at all. I put sport bars on mine shortly after getting it to get a more aggressive feel, and to be able to more easily tuck behind the wind screen when commuting on the freeway without hurting my wrists (the stock bars leave your hands in a weird bent position when you tuck - at least for me anyway). Apart from that though, it's bone stock and it's fantastic. I would definitely recommend this to anyone as a first bike.

      why should you slow down with the brakes, vs engine.

    • @opmike343
      @opmike343 Před 8 lety +23

      +shin888 I hate when people start mixing and confusing terms. "Engine braking" is the retarding force you feel when the engine is running, the bike is in gear, and the throttle is closed. ANY TIME you close the throttle while moving (assuming you aren't pulling the clutch) you're going to feel engine braking. It's unavoidable and isn't going to have any negative effect on your engine.
      Now, that's somewhat contrasted with people who downshift repeatedly, and use this force along with slipping the clutch to get the bike slowed. But again, assuming you're properly rev-matching your downshifts, you're not going to be doing anything substantially detrimental. Also, even while braking, you're going to be doing something similar unless you're one of those people that just pulls in and holds the clutch the entire time you're slowing to a stop.
      I'm not attacking you here, but I'm literally blown away by all the myths and old-wives tales that persists in the car and motorcycle community when it comes to how one is properly supposed to operate one. At very least, it would be nice is someone would put forward some kind of actual evidence, or at the very least, and decent explanation of HOW all this damage is going to be occuring.

    • @Zalonka
      @Zalonka Před 8 lety +14

      +shin888 Engine braking does not hurt the engine what the hell kind of drugs have you taken to think it does?
      You know how you destroy an engine? When you attempt engine braking and have no idea what you're doing. So when you downshift and let off the clutch your engine revs to redline. That's how you destroy an engine. If you know what you're doing which it isn't very hard. You can engine brake perfectly fine with nothing going wrong with your engine.
      Seriously learn to ride before you try to spew out false facts.
