    • @geuros
      @geuros Před 6 měsíci +2

      I think you misunderstood that, or I did. I think the 3/4 here stands for gripping the club shorter at around 3/4 of the length which then means the radius of the swing is shorter therefore the club won't move as fast, producing shorter distance with otherwise normal swing with a safe grip. Basically turning an uncomfortable grip with 8 iron into comfortable grip with 7 iron for roughly the same distance maintaining the same swing.

    • @chuckjones5379
      @chuckjones5379 Před 6 měsíci +3

      I was interpreting it as ¾ power. NOT ¾ distance on the swing or grip on the club.
      By dialing back to ¾ power he is suggesting you'll hit the ball cleaner and ultimately straighter rather than trying to drill the higher club and shanking it.
      Which is most likely the case for most amateurs and pros alike.

    • @canefan17
      @canefan17 Před 5 měsíci

      @@chuckjones5379 he’s saying take 3/4 of your normal backswing. That’s what it means when golfers say, “a 3 quarters swing.”

    There are teachers, like me, who teach you the mechanics of the swing. Where your hands should be at various points, where your weight should be, what you should feel in your feet, etc. And there are guys, like John, who understand how to execute so well, they can impart knowledge in small bites. Both of these are really important and I'll readily admit, most of what I do is meant to get you going in the game. I don't teach a lot of capable, accomplished players. What John, and other great players can share with you, is how to do something that isn't intuitive once you know how to swing the club. How do you manufacture a shot that you didn't plan for, etc. These videos are really, really good for players at all skill levels.

Realistically you’re probably only going to need that club 1, at the most 2 times during a round. If your confidence is running high when it’s time to pull that club, then your chances for success are much better.

    • @MentalityGolf

      100% it’s a good way to play especially if it’s working for you. The point of the game is to get the ball in the hole in the fewest strokes possible. Don’t let your ego tell you otherwise, if you don’t feel comfortable with a wedge from 70 yards don’t hit it. If you start to notice that you’re just not getting the ball close enough to the hole as you want sometimes, experiment with other clubs. But if it’s working well for you I would keep doing it 🔥

      It depends on the type of shot you need to play. High, low, pin location, slope of green, etc. Just practice with different clubs for the same shot & see what works for you. I like to practice shots 70-75 yds by flying them the entire distance or shorter with roll but still reaching the target.

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer Před 6 měsíci

      I hit a 9 roughly 125 yards. 41 degree club. What you suggest is an excellent way of learning feel. That shot will do you the world of good playing into the wind or with a good cross wind. I'd call it an extra arrow in your quiver as opposed to hitting it instead of the SW. It's a shot you can call on when needed. But yes, practice it, learn feel, learn how to control swing length and acceleration and it will do you good for the rest of your golfing life. If you play a prenium ball you will still stop it quickly with a 9 from 70 yards.

    • @mikecr4916
      @mikecr4916 Před 6 měsíci

      Not mentioned here is that there are 2 ways to play a choke down.
      1. Address the shot normally, choke down, hit the ball. This produces the same distance, but with a stiffer flex and lower swing weight. Same swing arc.
      2. Choke down AND THEN address normally before hitting. This directly reduces distance as the arc is reduced. You're closer to the ball now.
      Given this, I have 3 consistent ranges in potential for each club. Driver all the way to sand wedge.
      My choices depend on what I hold confidence in that round.

    3/4 swing is referring to power level, not backswing distance

    I agree with him. But he's also a prime example of "feel isn't real" as his 3/4 shot is like most people's full swing.

    John Daly is the best. He’s able to drink and not let it affect this life. He’s worth millions. Just proves you can function with alcohol and not let it cause problems

      @@qwaszx2 I've never tried single length but it would certainly make ball position a no-brainer which is a problem for most high handicappers.

    "Let the club do the work".
    No. It's "let the club head do the work" and it applies to not trying to lift the ball but instead, hitting down on it.
