      FYI, since he is no longer offering this service, I installed the coverlay. I’m, so far, pleasantly surprised how well it has worked out. It’s not perfect by any means, but a huge improvement for only $267ish. The material is superior. It’s extremely durable and should last a lifetime.
      I’d recommend a color matching permanent marker for any spaces that show the yellow foam.

    The difference is Lexus and Toyota recalled their melted dashes. Nissan did a recall for some earlier models before 2008 after a class action lawsuit, but newer models are also still experiencing sticky / shiny dashboards from melting and no AT 303 or any other protection will help. It's not just UV, but UV and heat seems to be the common thread. Nissan / Infiniti really doesn't care about there brand loyalty anymore and look who owns them (Renault). As an annoyed G37 owner having to deal with this recently, I doubt I will by another Nissan / Infiniti because I can't trust them to do the right thing. Eventually, I'll get rid of the car or settle on some solution, but this is pretty much is the death nail for the brand.

    • @PaulsTrains
      @PaulsTrains Před 4 lety +2

      @@greenkeyp.5538 Yes, I wouldn't be surprised. I believe the immediate plan in the USA which is their largest / only market and shrinking fast is to rebrand Infiniti to "Nissan Plus" going forward, and to share more parts with the regular Nissan. A better plan would be to stand by their cars for customers, build brand loyalty, and build better quality cars, but it's easier to just rebrand their former luxury division is "slightly better" than normal Nissan which is not saying much anymore. They won't fool the remaining consumers by doing this and they will ultimately spiral into the ground unless they make radical changes.

      Can't speak on behalf of why the previous owners of this car didn't take the preventative measures, but yes doing all of those things would have gone a long way in keeping this from happening. I was the 3rd owner when i bought this car and the damage was done. I've been detailing cars since 2002 and I'm a big fan of 303 protectant and using sun shades to block the UV here in FL. So many people grew up on ArmorAll and apply it thinking they are helping their dash, but are ultimately contributing to it's demise which I have a feeling was probably the case with this car. I initially covered up my melted dash with a mat to hide it, but the cracks were still visible in the front and I eventually went this route in the video.

      @@hubushi for sure, you need to disconnect the battery anytime you're messing with car electronics and airbags, especially something as major as removing the dash. As far as forced induction, supercharger is one good option, I like twin turbo better. Both can be fast and fun if done correctly, but unless you're really experienced to do most of the work yourself it can also be expensive to do it right, making it safe and reliable to re-engineer a car and engine bay that wasn't really designed for forced induction. I knew a guy that did it and afterwards he said he could have just bought a used gtr after all the money he spent on it. But then there's the whole "built not bought" thing that goes with that so I get it. I'm having fun bringing this fx35 back to life that I'm working on now on the channel and realizing how much I'm using it more than my car in my line of work so I may sell my G and go for either an Fx50 or Alpha Romeo Stelvio next year.

      @@djremedy9696 oh wow, I hate to hear that... did that include getting an additional dash from the junkyard and him recovering it and swapping it out when he's done? Cuz that was one of the options when I was getting mine done so that it would be faster, he was charging an additional $600 for another dash - that he could reupholster at his shop and then I just bring my car on the day for the install. But that adds another $600 to the price....I'll call him and see what's going on because I'm probably going to have him recover the dash on this FX35 I'm working on now and see if he's gone up or what. It's possible he did once he realized much work was involved with taking the dash out and putting it back in LOL. Even if so though $2,500 is what nissan/ infiniti was quoting me for a new one - that's still half price I suppose but it's a far cry from what I paid. I'll talk to him and report back here with what I find out.

    How long he took I'm in Tampa

    • @GQ37official
      @GQ37official  Před 3 lety +2

      It would take a good week or so. That's a long time to be without your car or to wait around on it if you're out of town so another option is to buy a used dash through him ahead of time (he has access to a salvage yard and can get them in good condition for $600) Then he can recover it in his shop ahead of time and when you bring your car in it's just a matter of him pulling your old dash and installing the newly wrapped one. (which is about a day and a half) Then you can sell your old dash on ebay or something and recoup some of your money. This is actually what I did to save time cause I didn't want to be without my car that long, but I didn't include this in the cost as it's not necessary if you have time to wait on it a week or so, but in your case that's another option. Even if you do factor in that cost and not sell your old dash after, it's a lot cheaper than a new dash through the dealer.

      @@codyberry1803 DANG! for a new dash or to recover your existing one? I also got quoted $2k plus for a new dash from the dealer, but I knew it could happen again so I just decided to cover it up. I would shop around different upholstery shops. I live in a small city, but we have 4-5 different upholstery shops and only one of them would remove my dash and do this.

      @@sadlerg5 I would just google the automotive upholstery shops in your area and go down the list calling them and asking, that's what I did. Some of them might not say automotive, most just say 'upholstery' but if you call them you'll be able to determine if they do cars or furniture.
